Default Roddy or DoJo

Carlisle gave both a handful chances, played them as fulltime backup and benched/DNP´ed the other.

After tonight im done with DoJo. He had his bright moments and was/is a better playmaker than Roddy but overall there isnt enough. No range, basically a Rondo-jumpshot, shaky FT, missing layups etc. His playmaking skills arent enough to cover up this huge flaws in his game. Unfixable flaws.

Roddy was really disappointing in several games this season but he still has the much bigger skillset and ceiling. The guy lives and dies with his confidence.

I hope RC sticks with Roddy now, throw him out there every game as backup, he may suck, he may bounces back and gains confidence.

So i stick with Roddy. Goodbye DoJo (if we dont trade for another PG).

I will say that as bad as Roddy is now...I really can't imagine him letting players blow by him like Collison does.

I agree, but as that really isn't an option, I think Roddy is the best option now that we know Collison is a bonehead that kills this team. DoJo just can't score so teams just have to ignore him and he becomes completely useless.

Rebounding
1) DoJo 20.0
2) Roddy 12.2
3) Mayo 8.9
4) Collison 6.6

"hands rating"
1) DoJo 22.4
2) Roddy 18.6
3) Collison 16.8
4) Mayo 12.2

"pass rating"
1) DoJo 12.1
2) Roddy 8.3
3) Collison 7.0
4) Mayo 3.5

"Net PER"
1) DoJo +4.4
2) Roddy +1.8
3) Collison -1.6

Yes, in all of those categories, Collison is the single WORST player we've had. Rebounding, bad passes, ball handling and net PER

Roddy is a beast, but injuries and the way he's been coached over the years has broken him down. The kid doesn't even look for his shot anymore when he comes into the game. I remember when he was a rookie, he would come into the game and start scoring instantly. Then the moment he made a mistake he would be instantly benched. Now, he's just become super passive. Doesn't look to shoot, doesn't look to make any flashy plays, doesn't look to do much but pass. Good job, Rick. You've completely destroyed a young guy. I bet you if Roddy was in Denver/Golden State/ Phoenix even Atlanta the guy would be averaging something like 12pts/3Ast per game. Let me end this post before it becomes a rant. I'm just angry with the way RC has used this guy over the years. Him and Collison should be a 1-2 punch right now (Think of the season opener vs the Lakers), they should be guys that pick each other up when the other is having a bad game. Instead he's always in the doghouse, regardless if he has a good game or not. I mean seriously WTF ? Hey Rick, we drafted Roddy in the 2009-2010 season, we shouldn't still have to be begging you to "Free Roddy B" up till now. Alright, I'm done for the night.

Roddy has never been much more than a 3pt shooter. If on, he was good, if not, nothing.

Completely agree with this post, although, obviously we have to give Carlisle a free pass, since we won the 'ship. Still, i really think he (and injuries) "broke" Roddy. Oh well, it doesn't really matter at this point i guess.

That's not really true though, last year he posted elite defensive, and rebounding numbers for his position for a good while, and had some nice periods not turning the ball over. Injuries always came at the worst times. Roddy obviously has a role in this league, but yeah, it's probably not a starting gig at this point. I'm afraid that ship sailed.

Both are just third stringers trying to play a back-up role, but I really don't see how Dojo is better than Roddy at anything.

LSMF is somewhat right, but I blame injuries more than anything. He is right that Roddy is fully capable of averaging something like 12/3. He did it last March (11pts/3ast/3reb/1.4stl) and looked like he would be a rotation player. Then I'm sure some other injury (I can't keep up with them) had a big say in a poor April showing. Now his confidence is shot, but I'm not sure what other choice the team has. One of them has to play minutes until a trade is made.

Kidd reneging on his deal is what we should be talking about. That hurt us more than anticipated. Kidd/Collison would be a nice pair.

I'm pretty sure we're only playing DoJo so we can trade him for something. Like a second round pick.

Weird because i remember him scoring dozens of times with a really nice tear drop. Best tear drop in a Mavs jersey since the van Exel days...

IMO his aggressiveness only manifested itself if he was hitting his threes. I don't know why but it just seems to be so. Where is his teardrop now?? If it's a good shot he should definitely be able to get it off.

Very timid player.

How is it Roddy, clearly? He hasn't played in a long time and I can't remember when he had a great game. He's been here plenty long enough to make his mark but the mark he made smells like S.

Against Jones, it is clearly. The non existent jumpshot from Jones is killing the Mavs' flow and spacing. Roddy had some good games this year before his injury. After that, just 1 or 2. And Jones had what? 1 good half?

Roddy does not have the inner fire and mental toughness to survive at this level. Despite the fact he is more naturally gifted than dojo, he has managed to get passed on the depth chart. Give me dojo because no matter how slim the chance his odds are better that he would develop a jump shot or some crafty around the basket moves than roddy who can't be trusted to get past his mental deficiencies.

A very valid point. I expect the men on the team look at roddy and see a wallflower. He may really need to go someplace else but not because of carlisle.

You SERIOUSLY think this?

Delonte is much better in doing what it takes for a team to win than any guard on the MAVS roster.

This is a serious case of the Mike Shanahan way of thinking that Dick C and Donny N displayed. We can get by with lesser players because our system is that good.

Define 'Worth'. He is worth having if you want to win games. Donny N and Dick C just made a mistake in thinking they were smarter than everyone including the Pacers and the fans.

We should learn that to win games he you need players to play their heart out on both sides of the ball in the 4th quarter. With the trio that we have playing PG, it isn't there.

It's all a conspiracy is it?

Not that he's always been a guy that's bounced around the league on min contracts because he's incredibly inconsistent and volatile? Not a guy that went off in our locker room not once but twice, trying to turn our players against the management by talking s@#t about the franchise? Not a guy that has done crazy s#$t on every team he's been on-- earning him suspensions away from the locker room?

I guess he's just a super-talented guy that all 30 teams are conspiring to keep out of the league. If he wasn't decently talented, he'd have been booted to Europe long ago. Teams just keep giving him a chance because they think he's changed, but it's all a part of his illness.

Dude, if he was worth the trouble there are 29 other teams that can pick him up for a song, he would be there but he's not. THAT is the final judgement on delonte. Not good enough to make any nba roster in the country.

He has bounced around on league minimums the last two years. One with the Celtics and one with Mavericks. He could have signed with the Lakers in the past two off-seasons. He chose to sign with Mavs and again last summer out of loyalty. Loyalty doesn't mean anything I suppose. Before that he had a rookie contract and decent 2nd multi year contract with the Cavs.

Also, why do you believe rumors that you say in your post? I think you should not believe those as fact and stick to them as rumors. Nothing has been said about the truth of the situation that caused the suspensions. If it ever comes out and what Delonte said was wrong and incorrect, then so be it. But until that time comes, we cannot say anything about those situations.

This was the first time he has been suspended due to something team related. Other time it was due to the transporting of properly registered guns on a public highway in an unsafe manner. This off the court issue was not as bad crime as it was portrayed to be. He paid the price of not being able to land another multi year deal due to this arrest. Financially the arrest put him in the hole along with his divorce.

Its never been about what he can do on the court. And for you to say he is inconsistent on the basketball court is non-sense. He is very reliable in helping the team win. He does whatever it takes and whatever role he needs to play.

By the way, what is your definition of crazy? I can't defend the guy on being bi-polar, but I can defend his competitiveness. I much rather deal with someone that is bi-polar and win games, than deal with the big wussies that we have now in Roddy, DoJo and Collison. They need to grow a pair of balls and suck everything up and strap up.

Roddy can't hit a jumper either. Worse, he can't make simple passes that keep a flow. He doesn't understand how to hit guys on the move or get it to them in rhythm. As evidence last night, things came to a grinding halt when he came in the game. He just can't run an offense, like we've been saying for 2 years.
