Guess it's time for Simba to win that most improved player award.

Geez Barnes 3-13. At least Powell is looking good this preseason.

Haven't got to see much preseason action.....are there any clear front runners for the 2 remaining spots?

Right now it's looking like a 3-man race between Gibson, Brussino and Finney-Smith, but none of the guys on the bubble have really stood out in preseason.

The real standouts have been higher in the pecking order, like Powell, Curry and Acy.

I haven't watched a lot of press on, but I think I'd take Brussino out of that trio.

Highlights of this game...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bucZPS7e2QQ

Defense was awful for both teams. Powell still having a hard time when players go at him under the basket.

I'd put my money on Brussino. They like him too much not to develop him, despite having more need at the PG.

that need at backup PG has me a bit concerned this year. We had the same guys there as last year but we also had Felton. He was surprisingly good for us last year and his bigger body helped. Hope DWill stays healthy.

Do you guys not see Seth Curry as a point guard? Rick seems to: "He’s a better point guard and ballhandler than I expected, but really what he should focus on is his defense."

Williams/Barea/Harris/Curry... Not that I'm against Gibson -- dude is a scorer -- but we seem to have plenty of depth at the guard positions. Although he is the one player on the bubble who has a guaranteed contract, so he may already be a lock.

If Brussino is the frontrunner, then where does that leave draft-snub Finney-Smith? Dude is an excellent rebounder, which is something this team always seems to be light on.

Last thing the Mavs need is a pg even with their injury history. Frankly, I hope Seth Curry starts at some point this season when Deron inevitably gets hurt.

And after a few preseason games, yes, the team still needs Harris's defense. Matthews is a good defender, but he still isn't very laterally quick.

Honestly I like Brussino and DFS more than the others, and it's not remotely close to me. We might be wing heavy but in today's nba I'd rather have 2 guys at the end of the bench who have position flex and are also better players than keeping a guy like Gibson. He would have 1 role and be a liability at literally everything else, like a smaller CV3.

If any of these dudes are thrust into the rotation because of injury we are prolly pretty screwed. So I'd rather just keep the best 2 players and see if they develop. And easily that would be Brussino and DFS. We don't get to see practices though so maybe someone else is killing it in practice. From what we have seen in games though, those 2 are ahead of the rest IMO.

I don't think PG vs. SG matters. It's just "guards". Rick wants combo-guards for better or worse.

If we aren't talking about a 5-position depth chart, I actually think we're doing okay

Centers
Bogut
Mejri
Powell
Hammons

Forwards
Dirk
Barnes
Acy

Guard/Forwards
Anderson
Matthews

Guards
Williams
Barea
Harris
Curry

Four-man rotation for two positions is a little rough, but Anderson and Matthews will play some guard. Six people covering two positions is really good, plus all four of the true guards are capable of PG if you listen to Rick.
