BG, no recap?
I think the bottom line is this: We're really good when our jump shot is falling. Really good.

Yes, but the problem is our jump shot tends to fall against bad defensive teams. Thus we beat bad teams and lose to good ones.
And our jump shot falls alot more at home, thus we lose on the road (Memphis)

LOLerbladin.
Ghazi's beat a team were supposed to has become the most annoying thing that is remotely associated with the Mavs.
Will the real Mavs please stand up. I love the win but I don't put much stock in it. The only thing we have been consistently all season long is inconsistent.
The ones who thought the team was better without Josh now realize how stupid that was. I mean it was really stupid to think that. Only a stupid dummy would think that to be the case.
I enjoy when the MAVS pants the Suns!

WTF couldnt Josh have played against Memphis? Did his ankle really improve that quickly? We'd be tied with Utah now! (with the strong possibility of being 1/2 game ahead of them by the end of tonight)

Dirk with a quiet 28 on 10-12 shooting.

I must say, my favorite play from today was when Josh blocked a Sun (Amundson?), Phoenix got it back, Dirk blocked a 2nd Phoenix attempt, got the ball and threw it down the court for Damp for a cherry-pickin' slam.
The 3/4 court buzzer beater and Kidd's go-ahead assist were awesome, but you got to love that one play. Josh getting active defensively, then Dirk getting active defensively, then showing how our offense can get points when we play defense.

You're right, when the Mavs have a line up out there that has expanded a lead from under ten to around twenty, and as that lineup is continuing to blow the game open, it makes perfect sense to rotate the personnel to account the possibility that they might blow the large lead . You do realize that the Mavs were continuing to the expand the lead AS you were complaining that Dirk was sitting too long, right? Nonsensical.

It's completely irrelevant whether it's wise in general to sit your star for that long. It worked brilliantly today. It's not as though Carlisle is establishing some trend of sitting Dirk for 10 minutes in every second quarter--it just happened to be working today, so he stuck with it.

Again, why does this matter? We weren't playing "other teams" today. We were playing Phoenix. And while Dirk was out during that second quarter, the Mavs put the game away. Yet, that was exactly the moment when you inexplicably complained that you "hate it when Carlisle does that crap." Why not save that complaint for a game where Dirk sits too long and the Mavs actually lose a lead, rather than expanding it by 15+ points?

Your logic is completely inane. It does matter because it COULD HAVE hurt us and HAS HURT US in the past. Just because it didn't today doesn't mean it's savvy coaching.

To expand on this point, Phoenix was down about eight points when their bench came in and brought it to 46-45. Then Gentry put the starters back in and suddenly it was 70-48. Somewhere in the middle of the run, JVG commented that Gentry should have left the bench in longer.

Oh, sweet irony.
It was absolutely savvy coaching today. There is simply zero argument to the contrary. The Mavs massively expanded the lead, and when Dirk came back in the 3rd quarter he was just fine.
Complaining about something that's working beautifully--as it's working, no less--carries with it the implicit assumption that Carlisle would do the same thing in a future game at a time when it wouldn't work. You mistakenly assume that the coach is incapable of reading individual game situations differently and making decisions based on what he sees.
I cannot think of one game this season where Dirk sat that long during that stretch of a game without being in foul trouble. And yet you're complaining about it like there's some sort of precedent.

If Phil Jackson tells Kobe to shoot 40 foot threes all night, and he goes 20-30 on them, is that good coaching?

And for this gem,
"I cannot think of one game this season where Dirk sat that long during that stretch of a game without being in foul trouble. And yet you're complaining about it like there's some sort of precedent."
I can think of several.

This is just a straw man argument, since shooting 40 foot threes is never a viable strategy, but every player spends time on the bench.
But please, do elaborate on those specific circumstances which you briefly and vaguely mentioned in your post above.

I was joking with this post, but the final score really wasn't too far off the mark (considering average NBA scores...)
[...and the right team won!]

Since it worked, you have to keep doing this for every game from here on out. Hopefully Shaggy doesn't hunt you down and kill you before the playoffs are over.
