I may have to switch to AT&T for this one. Wow, 200 bucks for the 8 gig and it comes with a better processor for games/applications as well as GPS??
Been pretty happy with T-mobile in phoenix but that is a great deal.

I literally was just thinking last night, man I'd like an iPhone but I don't want to pay like over 300 dollars or more for one.
Then ZOOM, this news comes out.

Groupwise is Novell's Exchange equivalent(for the most part anyway... it also provides instant messaging, which I guess with Communicator Microsoft does as well - integrated with Exchange anyway).
And it's good to know that Flaco is joining the ever growing Chris-Chris community in the world. That information can be used in the future, no doubt.

props to u2 as usual. My company migrated to GroupWise from Exchange like 3-4 years ago. They were told that outlook was too vulnerable to viruses, and that groupwise was a better decision in the long run. Now groupwise has gone the linux route, and documentation and support for GroupWise is scarce. It sucks man. We manage our GroupWise server on a netware box. It is awful. Almost nothing new that comes out supports GroupWise.
We are counting down the days to migrate back to exchange, although, from what i have heard. Migrating from groupwise to exchange can be very bloody. (meaning lose data)
So yeah.
I was asking because a bunch of our users kept asking about the iPhone when it first came out, and our excuse for not having to support it was it won't work with groupwise. Now it looks like it will work. I hope non of those idiots read about the new 3g iPhone and figure out it supports groupwise.
I like just supporting our blackberry enterprise server, i dont want to have to deal with other handhelds and crap.

I've had my issues with Apple as well over the last few years, but at this price point I'm going to have to go pick up one of these as soon as it comes out on July the 11th, even it means getting up a the butt-crack of dawn and camping out at the apple or AT&T store before it opens. I need to renew my AT&T contract anyway, so I'm pretty set on taking advantage of the AT&T rebate and picking up either the 8GB, or possibly the 16GB on the first day they come out...

Makes you wonder when they'll adjust iPod touch prices. $299 for 8GB and $399 for 16GB isn't going to move a lot of units.

Yup...they're raising the data plan from 20 to 30 bucks a month on top of your existing at&t plan.
That makes the phone $240 more expensive over 2 years.
Nice try apple...you bastards.

Right...they said they were lowering the price for the phone.
That would be true, if you didn't HAVE to get a data plan. Which you do.
Since you MUST get a data plan, and they've raised the data plan cost by 10 dollars a month, that's a 240 dollar increase on the whole thing, however you want slice it up.
I could've bought the other iPhone for $399 + 24 months of $20 data plan = $879.00
Or now, $199 for phone + 24 months of $30 data plan = $919.00 total cost.
They're actually getting 40 more bucks out of you, total. Good deal over 2 years for the added features? Maybe so. But to read these headlines "cheaper iPhone" is a joke.

Oh I know what you meant, I'm just saying 20 dollars a year for an upgrade isn't a bad deal IMHO.
If other products priced around ~400 bucks only cost 20 dollars a year to upgrade, I would be very happy.

I guess you would have to add another $200 to that if you want to make yourself feel better in Apple's way of thinking. So $1119.00 would be the cost for new features same price. So you are paying an extra $240 for the new features. I am not making any sense now that I reflect... \end{randomthoughts}

Technically it encompasses the internet, the text messaging, and the "visual voicemail" parts of the functionality I believe.

ok, so instead of paying the extra $20 on top of your current phone plan, you are paying $30...right?

the funny thing about this is the people who already own an iphone are going to pay for the new one... so really Apple could give two shits if anybody else gives them their money.

It's not about the cool new razor -- it's about selling the razor blades that makes the $$$$.

Not sure how that works.
Anyways, I just sold my old iPhone for 400 dollars on Ebay today (unlocked), that I had for less than a year.
Now, I'm going to use that 400 to invest 440 (200 for the phone, extra 240 for the data plan) into a brand new iphone for the next two years.
Like I said, comes out to be 20 bucks a year for an upgrade. Not too shabby.

Nope, but Bic single blades cost next to nothing and I can throw them away every 3 days and not worry about it because 1 set of blades for my good razor costs more than the 3 bags of 30 of the disposable ones.
I guess my point is that the recurring income in the long run is where you make your money from a business standpoint as long as you can stay golden in cash flow. People don't mind paying $41.67 a month for stuff, just don't tell them it is costing them $500 a year.

well, if you don't use them then don't worry about it. for those that do, dip them in rubbing alcohol when you get done shaving and wipe them down with a towel.

and to complete the analogy, don't get a cell phone - stay away from technology completely, and live in a bunker somewhere. Just don't send me anything through the mail.

The thing is, my point of view (and Flac's) was that I'm completely uninterested in paying $400 for a cellphone. I was pretty interested in paying $200 for that particular phone, but not after learning that it's actually $440, not $200.
If you were already willing to pay $400, then sure, $440 for the next generation is nothing.
But I wasn't.
