Kidd's Contract
I have mentioned this once on another thread, but I am curious to see how everyone else feels. Kidd can walk after this season, and doesn't have any real ties to Dallas. Would it not be foolish to use him to help relieve some of these teams of cap space to get a another star or some young talent?
I could see Kidd deciding to go get his ring over the summer and leaving for the Lakers, or Cavs and making them very strong teams. Imagine how either one of those two teams would fair by signing Kidd to a MLE.

The Mavs are not trading Kidd. It's just not going to happen. Cubes is going to give this season a chance to play out, and take the cap space generated by his contract coming off the books.
I agree that he may very well not return to us, but don't discount the fact that we can offer him, say, 10 mil for next season, and no one else can offer more than 5 (at least none of the contenders).

Which begs the question - is Jason Kidd worth $10mil?
(or can you find a better PG for the money?)

You are not going to find a better PG on the open market next season.

Not on the open market, but we have trade assets. Could a j-ho, stack combo not net a good PG?

There just aren't a whole lot of PG's in the NBA better than Kidd, much less available.

I agree he is still one of the premier PG, but he is on the decline. I don't see any trade short of a large one like moving Kidd for a big name that would put us in contention for the Western Conference Finals, let alone NBA. So we stick to Kidd an don't get any younger or deeper. What about next year then when his contract is only worth 10 mil with lets says 2 or 3 years on it. We have nothing to revamp the franchise. This is the kind of contract you use to rob teams with.
I say roll the dice for Shaq and Kidd straight up and hope Kidd comes back once they cut him.

That's the only scenario I could seem them trading Kidd:
1. There's an understanding that he will be cut and come back.
2. They trade him for a player who's contract ends before 2010.
Still, I find that to be very, very unlikely. Especially with Terry being out for so long. You going to play almost a month with Barea as your only PG?
The plan, I assume, is to perhaps sign Kidd for next season, but other than that let his salary help the books for a possible 2010 free agent signing.

I guess that's what the FO needs to decide - if they feel the same way, then we should have no problem out-dealing any suitors for Kidd...
But at the same time, it keeps us in win-now mode - I'm still waiting for Cuban to start spending some win-now cash on some more win-now players!

I see your point about only having Barea for a month. Especially where a month could mean no playoffs.
I am a huge Kidd fan, just concerned that we arent going to create a window for us to sustain this streak of 50 win seasons by trying to win now when we really have no shot at winning now as constructed.

I wish we had tried to score sessions before Luke R. got hurt. He would be a good PG for the future.

Two words: The Economy
You better have a draw if you want to keep selling out (and Dirk isn't high-flying enough to keep people interested if we're losing games...)

What does the money matter on a one year contract? It makes zero difference to anyone other than the player and Cubes.
I'm very confused by your list too.

I hope we keep Kidd until he retires, he has been an amazing point guard for our team.
