Default Celine Dion

Did anyone see Celine Dion on Larry King tonight? If you didn't, let me tell you, it's a Saturday Night Live skit in the making. In fact, very few things come as easy as this. In fact, I'm not sure there could possibly be anything that would come easier than this.

But before any of you make fun, I want to come right out and say that, really and truly, it is entertainers such as Celine Dion that comprise the cultural compass that we own in this country. Please. Please, do not diminish the contributions of Dion, et al., out of some sort of misguided jealousy. We should think what she thinks. We should cry when she crys.

And right now, she is crying.

Here's a link to the transcript. I can't the believe what ignorant and pompos fools our celebrities make of themselves trying to talk politics. Case in point Dion's totally clueless question: "How come it's so easy to send planes in another country to kill everyone in a second, to destroy lives?"

Thank goodness these idiots aren't in charge of any thing of real importance to human lives.

As Mark Steyn says it's a heck of a lot easier for a soldier to raise his weapon and shoot someone than it is to make them a cup of tea. Gotta heat the water, measure out the tea, put the cream in first, or is it last, put it on a saucer, etc. All that work, much easier just to let 'em have it.

What knuckleheads. They are just like children who are living off of mommy and daddy all the while griping about how the free food stinks.

Celine needs a bit of a reality check.

The problem is that rock and roll (which hardly exists anymore, but created the market for the current pop product into which it evolved) came of age in the Vietnam era. Most artists, even ones that were born after 1980, can't operate out of any other context than misdirected anti-establishment "war sucks, dude" type of thought.

Remember when New Kids on the Block showed up at the 1991 AMA's wearing a big "War Sucks" t-shirt? For the freakin' Desert Storm conflict, no less. The most obviously supported military effort in recent memory. Case in point.

Lack of intelligence, or lack of context, or in some cases, both.

Yes, I agree. It sure is sick and comical for someone actually having compassion for our fellow man in our own country that are suffering. I mean, whats her point?

And I am sure her comment "How come it's so easy to send planes in another country to kill everyone in a second, to destroy lives?" is way WAY off base. After all, 200 billion spent in Iraq isnt that much anyway is it? And its not like no one has been killed over there- have they? Yes, she is WAY WAY off base.

If Celine Dion actually had compassion for her fellow man, she'd: (1) stop using a national catastrophe as a useful career opportunity and, more importantly, (2) stop producing the crap that is her musical oeuvre.

reeds, get a life.

It's NOT easy to wage a war overseas. It's not like the decision was made on one day and Baghdad fell on the second day. That's why her argument is completely irrelevant and off base with respect to the relief effort, bottom line. That's what this thread is about.

There are very, very few relevant arguments people can logically use about Katrina that will advance their anti-war agenda... and NONE of them apply to the immediate relief effort. As far as I'm concerned, the only way Katrina relief intersects with the Iraq war is when addressing how we're going to pay for the long term rebuilding efforts. But that being said, the Katrina relief estimates still only add up to less than 10% of the yearly budget, and we all know there's more than 10% of pork in 2006 that should be cut by both Democrats and Republicans.

Career Opportunity?? What a joke- one of the highest paid people on the strip- multi-million dollar contract- ya, she sure needs it to "kick start" her career...
