Default A few simple moves...

to get this thing straightened out.

1. Trade Walker for Ilgauskas. Yeah, I know all about the complaints about Ilgauskas. So what? The guy blocks shots, he's a decent rebounder, he can score, and he's a center. He can play 30 minutes a night at the position, which is something we haven't been able to say about a legitimate center on the roster in the Cuban era. Also, he'd be the second-best center in the West from my view.

2. Trade Fortson for Payton. The logic of this move for both teams is discussed in another thread, so I won't rehash it here.

3. Trade Tony Delk to any team with cap room that will play along for a second round pick. Simple roster reduction move that also has the side benefit of creating a trade exception.

4. Cut Jon Steffansson. If you can work another trade to clear space to keep him, so be it, but this guy is Adam Harrington as far as I can tell.

Roster:

C: Ilgauskas, Bradley, Laettner
PF: Nowitzki, Najera
SF: Finley, Howard
SG: Daniels, Stackhouse
PG: Payton, Harris

IR: Pavel, DJ, TAW

That's a team that's deep at every position and looks to be capable of thriving in a halfcourt or fullcourt setting.

Note to Donnie and Mark: Let's get it done.

Walker for Ilgauskas - absolutely. This is the no-brainer of the day.

Fortson for Payton - actually, this is the no-brainer of the day.

Tony Delk for a second rounder - him and/or Eddie.

Cut Jon - I'd prefer not to unless it's absolutely necessary.

Dang KG,
you beat me too it.

<edit my thoughts>
I can agree with #1 and #2 whole heartedly.

#3 though......I would prefer....Trade #3 - Najera/Delk for Tskitishvili ...... I believe that Denver has the cap room to make this work, and Kiki loves the hustle of Najera. Tskitishvili fell out of favor in Denver. He is a 7' who could learn alot from Dirk, and is a 3/4 as well.

#4.......... I would keep Stef a year, and see what he has. If not cut him next year. To make room, move PPod to a place where he will get consistent minutes every night (Europe - Italy - Anywhere). PPod needs the development.

I really like this spot to be use on DJ MBenga.

Good job KG.

Do you mean you want him to make the roster? If so we're in complete agreement. If it were necessary to cut Jon in order to keep DJ there's no question in my mind you cut Jon. I'd just hate to cut him before we'd exhausted all possibilities relating to guys like Delk and Najera.

That's good, but we need to get rid of one more player--I'd prefer Laettner, maybe Najera as well (or both) so that DJ can go on the active roster as the third-string center and we can keep Stefansson.

Yeah! I don't see much time for Jon, with Harris, Danields, Finley, Stackhouse plus the back up point.
You definitely need a prospect spot on a Big guy insted of a guard.

True, I just think a prospect spot for both would be preferrable to a prospect spot for a big guy and a junk spot for somebody else.

I think if CLE decides they can't match UT's offer to C. Boozer, they'll be desperate for a PF so A. Walker would fit nicely. He's not the physical banger/rebounder that Boozer was, but his passing skills will definitely help out and his dribbling skills are pretty good so he can take some of the ball-handling duties off of McInnis and L. James. Also, CLE has T. Battie to play C if Ilgauskas leaves. The only prob for DAL is that Ilgauskas and Nowitzki are both soft and terrible defenders who can get pushed around in the paint. We'd probably have an even worse post defense than we did last year if we had Z at C and Dirk at PF.

Also, I think Charlie Ward would make a good pickup at PG with the LLE or vet minimum. He's a tough defender who has been through the wars with NYK and SA and would therefore make a great mentor to D. Harris. He'd be happy coming off the bench.
