what position is the mavs weakness?
win or lose these playoffs, what position, if you had to pick one, needs the most attention as we look to the future?

Center and it's not even close. I'm thinking that even having Deron on this team, we wouldn't get past San Antonio or LA. We need that presence inside. I'd like for Cubes to find a way to snag Kevin Garnett here. Even at 36 he's playing like he's 26.

It would have been hilarious if one of the options was "message board."

center is the weakest, but the 1-2 could be better as well. kidd and carter have killed us this series. but delonte and terry have made up for tht somewhat

It's a good thing we decided not to re-sign this year's Defensive Player of the Year.
Cuban accidentally won a title last year, and he purposefully lost it this year.

I'll go with point guard and center
Center for defense, and in Monday's game Kidd missed some wide open three's that you would think a guy like Deron Williams could have hit.
Center is the biggest glaring weakness, too many blocked/missed dunks/layups.

From my perspective (and 8 out of 10 people here might not care about my perspective), Haywood isn't even near being a mediocre player. I don't know why Dallas bothers giving him a single minute. The other night he got the ball driving to the lane and OKC kinda just looked at him like...ok, go ahead. Of course, he completely blew the layup. Who else would they play in his place? They couldn't be much worse. How about the Chinese guy..Yi or whatever his name is? I know Haywood isn't out there for offense, but I've seen Yi (I"m sorry if I'm screwing his name up) with NJ or whoever he used to play for, and I thought he was pretty damn decent.

Just a thought, but do you guys think there was any way Corey Brewer could've been fit into the rotation had we kept him?

I don't think PG is the problem until you get to Roddy, but our C position is bad all around in my opinion.
Haywood is not a smart player at all, he always makes bad decisions and does not fight for rebounds like CHANDLER did on a consistent basis. Hell half the time I see Haywood look at the ball and just stand there. And need I say anything about Mahinmi at this point?

Kidd is a hall of famer who can still play. He isnt an all word shooter, but he can still play and distribute. If you had a decent inside threat, that would even itself out.

Probably would have gotten time when Delonte was out and when Marion needed a blow. If he were around, Odom might have been gone sooner, like trade deadline....

last night i had a dream...
Wright = Hollins
Mihnimi = Diop
Wood = Damp
Roddy = Josh H.
Carter = Stackhouse
Yi = Wang ZiZi
Cardinal = Najera
Delonte = rookie JJB
...and then Dirk kicked a stationary bike...and i woke up.

Center is clearly the biggest problem.
Does anyone doubt for a second that the Mavs would be up 2-0 right now if they still had Tyson?
The only good thing that may come of the Mavs getting out of the first round is that maybe the media members who suck up to Cuban will stop trying to defend their obviously stupid decision to let the only good Center the Mavs have ever had, walk.
It's as if no one has learned anything from Mavs history.
Fact: The mavs have had several good point guards and never won a championship.
Fact: The first time the mavs had a good Center they won a championship.
What does that tell you? It should tell you that what Dirk really needs on the floor to succeed, more than anything is a good Center.
End of story.
I really don't understand why Cuban and Donnie have never been able to figure this out. Or are they actually so delusional they really thought they'd get Dwight Howard? I can't believe that.

The correct answer is:
Not PF.
Or put another way:
what position is the mavs weakest link? Yes.

Marion just blocked this opinion and swatted it into the stands.

Anyone ever consider that the problems could be that Jet needs another trophy tattoo and Dirk doesn't have his playoff beard?

After this year? The two guard spots.
Right now? The center spot with Haywood playing like an injured Wang Zhi Zhi, Wright not hitting the floor and Mahimni playing inconsistently.

SF is a problem because they don't get enough scoring from Marion. Durant can pretty much play a zone and leave Marion all by himself to try and shoot 3s ecause he can't score enough.

Marion's scoring average is in the double figures, better than either the center or pg positions... And he's the best defender in the nba.
Don't be ridiculous.

Center, and it's not even close. We'd be up 2-0 fairly easily if Chandler were still here. Also, I really like Kidd, but it appears that he's had more uncharacteristic turnovers this year, and his lack of offensive output wears on me. 4 on 5 offense is tough all season + playoffs. Still, we've got the one ring, and I'm happy with it. Last year was a great ride, and I knew from the beginning that this was going to be a fubar year with the compressed schedule.

Back court is the position of weakness. I realize the centers haven't shown up for this series, but it's three games. Over the course of the season, I think we proved that you can find centers to play next to Dirk. They may not be huge difference makers, but you can find guys that can defend the rim and play effectively in the system.
What you need is a back court. What you need is someone else to create offense. What we need is someone else on the roster that is an all star level two way player (or better).
No superstar other than Dirk has had this level of sustained success without a second (or third) star to support him.
Give him a top 15 level player and see what happens.
Please, make it happen.

It's the same weakness that has been here every year of this franchise's existence....except for one year.
Center.
