Computers have no bias. They have no agenda. The have no predjudices. These ratings show that if you throw all the media craptrap out the window and just look at basketball, that the Mavs are the best team in the NBA. And by a big margin.

Dallas has been no. 1 all year. I never thought to post it. The problem with computer rankings is it gives all games equal weight. Thus, beating the Lakers without Shaq or SAC without Webber counts just as much as beating the Lakers with Shaq. Losing to SA without Dirk or Najera counts against you just as much as if the team were healthy. It also fails to take in how a team is playing at a particular moment.

The unbiased computer does a great job of judging how well teams have played, and how well they probably will play, but computers don't play basketball. The top few look good. But sometimes a bias is warranted. It might help explain why the computer can do 'probable' but not 'absolute'. Does anyone think that LA would have a problem against Utah, Indiana, Minnesota, Detroit, or New Jersey in a 7 game series?

The only biased thing about the sagarin ratings is that they place so much emphasis on.......record. ;^)
