Dirk's been the centerpiece of the Mavericks franchise and he still gets a thread or two every year about trading him.

I think some posters thinking about the possibility of trading Dirk (me included) are not thinking that Dirk is bad/declining and therefore should be traded for the good of the Mavs but thinking that it would be nice if Dirk could play for a contender during his last few years instead of playing on mediocre Mavs teams. Mavs fans have to deal with a Dirk-less team sooner or later anyway and I doubt a lot of them would mind trading him for a player who is younger and better. There is nothing wrong with thinking about Dirk's future here or elsewhere. I am sure Dirk himself thinks about other options too from time to time.
