Welcome back Darrell Armstrong!!!
MAN...
DA always was one of my favorite mavs... According to Eddie Sefko DMN he's coming back as asst. coach.

Armstrong to join Dallas Mavericks' coaching staff
06:44 PM CST on Monday, January 26, 2009
By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News
esefko@dallasnews.com
Rick Carlisle said the Dallas Mavericks have decided to hire Darrell Armstrong, but not as a backup to point guard Jason Kidd.
Armstrong is ready to embark on his coaching career and would join Carlisle's staff in an assistant coach/developmental coach role.
Carlisle coached Armstrong at Indiana and has stayed in touch with him as Armstrong finished up a 14-year playing career that included two seasons with the Mavericks. He was a wonderful locker-room presence in 2006, when the Mavericks reached the NBA Finals.
Carlisle said Armstrong will make his retirement official with the league, presumably eliminating any chance he will play this season. He played 50 games last season with New Jersey.

I thought for sure he would be suiting up for us.

Holy crap, that thread title scared me. I mean, I love DA and all, but I did NOT want this to be what the FO had in mind when they talked about making moves.
As a member of the coaching staff though? Hell yeah! Welcome back indeed.

Cool, a nice move to get back a guy who used to lead this team very well.

I was about to delete my D-M account when I noticed that he's coming here as an assistant coach...
(although the idea of him suiting up for the Mavs doesn't seem so far-fetched these days...)

I was going to go with the joke that they hired him to make Jason Kidd feel younger..... but then I thought... *IS* Jason Kidd younger than Armstrong?

I was hoping we'd traded for former SOC great Darrell Arthur.

Its gunna be good to have him back, I think he was an underrated reason of why we made the finals in 06. I love this guy's heart.

I love his heart too... let's see what he has upstairs Xs and Os wise.
Do you think Jason Kidd is the leader of this team... and if so, with DA's style coming to dallas would there be a conflict? You know what they say about too many chiefs.

...maybe their setting up shop for the departure of Kidd, old wiley guy leading a young point. Nevertheless, Kidd is not the leader of this team, Dirk is. DA was actually in NJ last season and was Kidd's primary backup, so if Kidd had any issue with DA, he never let on. Kidd's take, the more experience you have on the bench, the better it is for the team.

Yawn, wake me when the Mavs do something of value.
Sorry but we have a billion assistant coaches. That is pretty much the last thing we needed, regardless of Armstrong's leadership skills.

Start brewing the coffee...
Maybe he can teach JJB how to come into games, flop 4 times, get 1 call in his favor, and get excited about it.

Yes, he was shouting from the sidelines on every defensive possession.

from db.com -- about DA

I wonder if this is why JJB had 3 fouls in just a few min in the 2nd qtr.
At least 2 of the fouls were because he was trying to pick up the charge.

DA was a great locker room guy when we had him. Anyone that plays with as much heart as he did is good to have with the team. I definitely think he's been a reason for the upswing.

Apparently, it was Rick Carlisle's idea to bring back DA. He consulted Dirk, Kidd, JET and Josh before any final decision was made.
I posted an article about this in another thread: http://www.dallas-mavs.com/vb/showth...952#post960952
