Default Dampier incentive clause?

I was just reading that Damp's contract is only guaranteed in 2010 if he meets performance incentives. Does anyone know what they are and what his status currently is in terms of whether he will likely reach them? Thanks!

I seem to remember something about All-Star appearances. Not much help, I know.

Don't know if this answers your question, but is interesting.

some other incentives....................
how many times he blows a entry pass.........
how many times he blows an easy dunk........
how many times he misses a free throw........
how many times he trips running up court.....
how many times he is in foul trouble.............

and with futher study, this should answer your question. LINK
Sefko: Of course we can. Sort of. The best way to put it is that Dampier’s contract is incentive-guaranteed. He needs to be an All-Star to have it fully guaranteed. And failing that, which it appears he will, it’s possible the whole thing could be non-guaranteed.

I presume there is a small buyout, but I haven’t been able to uncover that yet. We’ll keep you posted.

He has two qualifiers:

One is based on All Star appearances.

The other is based on his minutes played next season. He has to average 30 minutes a game (I think that's right) over the course of his 72 (I think) games with highest minutes.

Neither has a shot in hell of happening.

Edit to add: Here's the exact numbers. This is from a thread on RealGM. The post is by Larry Coon, who's pretty much the cap expert on the web.
Quote:

Erick Dampier's 2010-2011 salary of $13,078,000 has no salary protection; which then increases to full if (1) player is selected to play in any three NBA All-Star Games out of the 2004-2005 through the 2009-2010 seasons or (2) player plays at least 2,100 minutes in the 70 regular season games in the 2009-2010 season in which player plays the most minutes (and if player plays in less than 70 regular season games in the 2009-2010 season, then player must play at least 2,100 minutes for the entire regular season).

YaY! I forgot about this. More salary cap room for summer 2010 for us.
edit: wait... that is for the year after isnt it? damn.
editedit: oh.. ok awesome. yeah, well lets hope we get a big man back up if we trade Bass so that we wont have to play Damp anywhere near his needed minutes.

Well Coon says his salary is completely unguranteed. So I've always worked off the assumption that Damp's 13mil salary for 2010 is not on the books.

It's certainly possible that a small part of it is guranteed.

So basically, he is fully guaranteed this year, and next year they are taking the 70 games where he logs the most minutes... if that number is at least 2100 his 10-11 contract is guaranteed. Very interesting...

I love the idea of these incentives for players, how ocme we don't hear about these kinds of contract deals more often? It makes perfect sense from a teams perspective, get your players to meet certain expectations if they want to keep their contracts valid. Of course, some realistic expectations would be better...

I'm sure they will make sure that he doesn't meet those minute requirements.

Damp's only met that mark twice in his career, and hasn't shiffed it with Dallas. They won't have to do anything to make sure it doesn't happen.

I worry about Damp and his agent playing the media to get more minutes next year.

Like he hasn't had the opportunity for that since he got here?

IMO, Damp has been a serviceable center for us. A lot of his benefits as a player do not show up in the box scores, he's very similar to Kidd in this way.
