Default Teacher Wish Lists

I may be a looking at this from a skeptic's point of view, but this was not what I expected when I clicked on a link for my neighborhood's public elementary school.

Teacher Wish Lists

Now try the link. I made it the school's home page so you have to click on the grade level, i.e. kindergarten and then teacher wish lists.

I may be behind the times, but I thought teacher wish lists were things for the classroom, like craft supplies and books. While some of the teachers are requesting things for their classroom most are requesting gifts for themselves... on a public school's web page. Not only that, but gift cards to Saks, Williams Sonoma, and Nordrom. One even demands NO BRIGHT COLORS!

I just found this tacky. So will the teacher give my kids better grades or more extra help if I buy expensive gifts? I would think we would be encouraged to bring simple, inexpensive items to avoid any child feeling bad because he couldn't bring a high dollar gift to his teacher.

We used to make cards or pick flowers for our teachers.

I didn't realize that giving gifts to teachers was such a big business these days.

Teacher: "Hey parents, I know you're going to try and suck up to me... so I might as well tell you what I want. Then, your Playstation-addicted-snot-nosed brat MIGHT get a C+!"

Im sure this collection of WISHES was made for occasions such as Birthday/Christmas and what not... Sort of like if there was a Christmas drawing, each teacher could go to this public forum to see what the other teacher is interested in... I do not see it as tacky by any means. Maybe unnecessary, but even that is a bit of a stretch... I simply think you took it wrong!
