Kinda sucks that we wasted an absolutely dynamite offensive performance from Terry like that. Has to be his best playoff game since the '06 Spurs series, and it was all for naught.

You know, I actually agree. I didn't feel that bad after this game. Like you said, tons of missed free throws, turnovers, and the refs pretty much took Chandler out of the game.

Jason Terry loves all of you and wants everybody to just be friends.
Oh, and Mavs in 5. Bitch.

First things first:
Fouls: Mavs 22 - Blazers 20
FTs: Mavs 23 - Blazers 21
The bigger problems:
Only two players in double figures (Dirk & Jet), 13-23 from the line, 16 turnovers, Chandler in foul trouble all night and out for most of the 4th quarter, awfully weird rotations, and probably even more.
This was definitely a game we could have won, regardless of the referees. Hopefully we can reduce the mistakes and win at least one on the road.

I think one of the stupidest things people do in the NBA is just simply look at the box at the end of game to see if the refs were fair or unfair. The refs can be good and a team can get 12 more free throws than the others team, and the refs can be biased/bad and teams are near equal in FT.

Too many TO (Hello Jason Kidd)
Too many missed FTA by Dirk and our guards (not even pointing Haywood out here)
in the 2nd half we went away from our bread&butter plays...
Tickytacky fouls on chandler
Blazers shooting their minds out from downtown
Weird/bad calls for 12 (!) Blazers points (two times Bareas face vs an ellbow, Camby over the back, Chandler vs Wallace ending in a Miller three, Kidds toe)
and still the Blazers barely won.
F the refs, we still got this in game 4 and 5.

This. I can't see Jet having another game like that.
Kidd was terrible. Missing shots, I can live with that. The absolutely terrible, rookie caliber turnovers, I can't. By the way, he only has like 17 assists this series.
Marion was tentative, but he started to pick it up in the 3rd and there was NO excuse for RC to not play him in the 4th. None.
Tyson needs to quit playing like an idiot. Some of his fouls are bogus, but some are just stupid. And when's he's not fouling, he's playing pretty damn average defense. If Haywood could hit a fucking FT, I'd want Brendan out there for the majority of the time. Wood played VERY good defense tonight. Why can't he hit a FT!?
RC...I'm done with him. How do you justify playing JJB the WHOLE 4th Quarter...Marion for none of it...and the 3 Guard lineup for half of it??? Portland's advantage is our small backcourt, and what does he do? He plays RIGHT into their hands. Portland got a number of second chances and easy points in the 4th because of JJB and the 3 Guard lineup. Just inexcusable.

But but but, Rick Carlisle is a great coach...yes, that 3 guard lineup the entire 4Q was a thing of beauty.
Let's get this win Saturday and bring it home Mavs!

why are we still starting deshawn stevenson? so he can provide 4 minutes of nothing and put us in a hole? then get benched for the rest of the game? what's the point. his +1 suck differential was really useful tonight

RC is a great X's and O's coach. He nevertheless often makes suspect rotational decisions. Just one of those things. Frustrating, though.
Terry absolutely will not have another game like this. 10-13? Prime Ray Allen doesn't have many games like that. But I hope he'll continue to play within himself. He proved a lot of people wrong tonight.

3 PG line + Haywood, are you fuc... kidding me? In PO Carlisle, in PO? Are you serious?
Dirk is a god, but not in the hell. Chandler better cool his hot head before next game.
Barea is just a joke in PO. Kidd has to back to his first 2 games rhythm.
Hope Terry can keep this shooting, that's what I want to see from him, he's our SG.

I watched half TNT and half TXA-21 tonight (almost on accident) and found the use of the word "mismatch" to be prolific and also confusing. The Mavericks nearly always seem to be at a mistmatch when defending Portland. To say that Portland was singling out the mismatches was weird because it seemed like (from a basketball dullard idiot POV) that's all there was out there.
Yet still b/w the turnovers (loved Haywood's clearing pass to the scorers table btw) and the bad shooting and the god awful FT numbers from even the most important of mavericks the Blazers barely eeked it out.
If Tyson Chandler were actually allowed to play...imagine...
Crappy part is they have to weather the storm again on Saturday (which they did magnificently tonight) and then steer the ship toward victory. Not sure if they can do it in consecutive games. That atmosphere is just harsh. (I guess if you live in Portland you have just the one thing to be happy about year round)

They have two things now.
But point taken.

While I agree that that's certainly possible, comparing foul numbers and free throws is not nearly as stupid as the fan reactions in any given GDT on any given message board. 90% percent of the time fans of the losing team complain about the refs and think it's one of the main reasons they lost. NBA officiating is pretty bad in general and we saw a lot of examples tonight. However, after a game like this one, I hardly need to look at the refs to understand why we lost. From reading the GDT, one could tend to think that we got royally screwed, which isn't the case.
We simply couldn't get it done tonight for various reasons.

Well a few bogus calls hurt us most of the blame has to fall on the team their selves. They just missed a few to many shots tonight and turned the ball over to much. Their is no doubt if a few of those threes went in it would have been a different outcome as close as it was.

If I had posted right after the game I would have been ranting like a mad man. I've had time to calm down though and am looking forward to Saturday.

i'll go batshit crazy if we lose the series.
in fact, if we lose this series, i will never post on this board again. this is a promise. quote it, screencap it, whatever. that's how sure i am that we'll win.
of course i'll go batshit crazy in the PGT right before my departure.

It actually sort of has a 2006 playoffs feel to it here. Other than toward the end of the Finals, this board was very measured and confident even after losses.

Well the percentages are still in our favor. Teams that win games 1 and 2 at home and lose 3 AND 4 on the road still win the series about 83% of the time. Of course we contributed to the other 17% but don't worry about that so much.

Maybe they felt this would be their only win of the post season so they better celebrate.

Past teams with HCA and a 2-1 lead in the first round have gone a moderate 19-14 (57.6%) in Game 4, but a strong 30-3 (90.9%) for the series.

I would think 57.6 % is a high number to win on the road

I am really happy for Terry, hopefully this is a strong confidence boost for him, and, streaky as he his, he'll continue on this path. We just needed a third banana to step up and score some more points, essentially. Peja, Kidd, Marion, Barea, or Chandler, all are capable of scoring 15 points or so. We desperately need Chandler to stay on the court or Haywood finishing at the rim, his FT shooting is hurting us badly.
