@BA_Turner: Hearing from sources if Lakers want Anthony Davis, who has requested a trade, LA has to start the deal with Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Ivica Zubac, No. 1 pick.

I love a good rant...

@KirkSeriousFace: If Lebron wanted to play with AD he should have signed in New Orleans

@KirkSeriousFace: I’m not interested in the “Lebron has no stake to Klutch Sports” take either. Don’t look at collusion and call it something else. I admire what Lebron has accomplished but it’s still kinda gross.

@KirkSeriousFace: “But he’s sticking it to the owners!”

Like I fucking care. I tune in to watch good competitive basketball. Maybe NOP should lose AD, but not to the vipers nest of bad ownership, development, and gold painted bullshit that is the LA Lakers.

@KirkSeriousFace: I’m just so tired of the shitty lying by players and agents. Just say you only want to play for big city teams! The lakers and Knicks are not first class franchises, they are franchises with history.

Shams Charania: Sources: Should Lakers/Pelicans trade talks pick up, point guard Lonzo Ball’s camp prefers Ball to be moved to a third team that doesn’t have an established point guard.

The whole thing is sickening. Davis has said that anyone other than the Lakers that gets him will just get a 1.5 year rental.

That means that unless teams are really dumb and/or desperate, Lakers are the only bidders and no one is bidding against them. Davis has not only requested a trade, he's made sure that the Pelicans don't get even close to equal value for him.

That's the league these days though. Agents now leak a player wanting to be moved, and then it tanks their value. Nothing a team can really do about.

The Wolves got decent value for Butler, but at the expense of huge franchise embarrassment and the coach getting fired.

I could see a team like Toronto give up decent assets to rent him. There isn't really much AD can do. He may WANT to be traded to LA, but like Kawhi he has to play for a year where they send him. Said team could also flip him this summer to recoup some assets.

Lebron signs with LA

Weeks later Davis changes his agent to Rich Paul/Klutch (aka Lebron)

Davis demands a trade before the TDL, knowing that the team with the most assets (Boston) cant trade for him right now

Klutch/Davis leaks that he is not interested in Boston and that every other team will be a 1.5 year rental....trying to force his way to LA and kill his trade value

absolute garbage move from Davis, Klutch and Lebron. And with this Klutch connection no team is going to try to pull off another Paul George...

Is it wrong of me to hope that both AD and Lebron suffer career ending knee injuries?

Yes, kinda. It is not wrong to hope for a Harden snap-back decapitation, however.

Chris Haynes: The NBA announces that New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis has been fined $50,000 for his agent Rich Paul going public with a trade request.

Maybe the NBA should not allow Davis to go to LA. $50k is no sweat off his brow.

“A source close to the Celtics confirmed that Kyrie Irving is genuinely interested in reuniting with his former Cavaliers teammate. ‘That is for real,’ the source said.”

Now Kyrie wants to play with Lebron again?

Pelicans' Anthony Davis fined $50K for public trade demand by agent
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/2...e-demand-agent

$50k is a small price for Davis to get whatever the hell he wants... Why bother putting the rule in place if a slap on the wrist is the only consequence? If anything, these millioniare superstars should be emboldened to publicly demand trades since there's basically no punishment for doing so.

Comparing to a family income of $75,000, that is a $147 fine. Getting an automated red light ticket is higher than that .... not that I would actually know ... or maybe I do ... more than once.

I do think it does damage to his legacy though. Look at the hate Durant has gotten since joining GS. This will be no different...

Be better for the league if he went East. The East/West dilemma will just get worse because teams in the West keep desperately poaching for talent.

I hadn't thought about that aspect yet. This could even be worse as AD is not a free agent at the end of the year. He's attempting to force a trade a full year and a half ahead of being able to choose where he goes. It sounds like the team is already considering sitting him the rest of the season. I'm curious what the response would be if they said "you are under contract and you'll stay here until it's done" and then sits him until the end of next season.

This is difficult in that the players should have the right to choose where they go but they've also signed a contract committing to a team. He's giving up on his teammates. What does that say?

MavzMan, I'd love to see a team bite the bullet for everyone and do that. Unfortunately, it would tank their overall perception among players in the league and they also would have nothing to show for a top-end talent in the way of return in a trade. It would be awesome to see if someone of that caliber would waste away a full season and a half of their prime on the bench, but alas...

Kudos to New Orleans for doing the right thing. Now let's hope they also want to move Jrue and go full tank mode.

This is just very bad for both players and the league. From an owners perspective, the player signed a contract and should fulfill it regardless of the quality of players around him. Take this to the extreme, what if the owners get together collectively and decide that they are not going to offer him any more contracts in the league in order to preserve the value of the league as a whole?

Again, the players have rights when it comes to deciding where they go and how much they are willing to take to play. But, a 30 team league that consists of a 2 or 3 super teams and 27 mediocre teams is not healthy.

Bottom line is that until it starts affecting someone's wallet, nothing will change. So for Mr. Joe Fan, all we can do is sit back and watch the show .... if we decide to.

It all comes down to the CBA. Currently, there's too much finger-pointing. Players say they can be dealt at any time and want to control their own destiny. Owners complain about public stunts and losing their stars to big markets. It simply means you need much more security on both ends. No-trade clauses and severe penalties for violating contracts have to get much more common, just to name one very basic example.

@wojespn: Reporting with @ZachLowe and @RamonaShelburne: In meeting with management today, Knicks forward Kristaps Porzingis expressed his concern with the losing, franchise direction and an uncertainty that a culture is developing that will enable sustainable organizational success.

So KP will be an RFA after this year. He could tell NYK that he will not take a max extension but rather play out final year to become a UFA. Then he agrees to sign and trade to the Mavs.

How is this different from the AD situation? I have my own opinion but what is yours?

I half wonder if we throw a max offer his way if he checks out with the trainers. I know he's an RFA but if Porz really makes a stink, that may put the Knicks off on matching. Plus with only 4 years in the league he would only make 27mill a year-- about what Barnes would earn.

Porzingis and Doncic could match up pretty well. Let Jordan walk. Get a rebounding PF and a defensive PG. That team could compete.

OR he could make it clear that he doesn't want to play for the Knicks. Knicks have the right to match, but would they for a guy who is disgruntled? That's a huge risk to throw max or even supermax money at a guy who is unhappy. If they match, he goes to the Knicks longterm but could throw enough of a tantrum that he drops his value.

I guess your scenario is more likely.
1) We sweep in and offer him 27 mill. Knicks have to decide. They may have to match and then trade the following December because otherwise they get nothing.
2) No one offers him a deal. He gets traded at next year's TDL or walks away in FA.

@wojespn: Kristaps Porzingis left the Knicks with the impression that he prefers to be traded, league sources tell @ramonashelburne and me. Knicks are expected to commence discussions on moving him ahead of next Thursday's deadline.

Knicks are going to match anyway...they will gladly match because it means its 4/120 and not the 5/150 they can offer as max first

Read my last post that went up just seconds before yours... Knicks are probably trading KP.

Yeah now that I think about it, there's no way he gets stolen away in FA.

Ways Knicks can get SOME value out of him
1) They trade him by Thursday
2) They give him QO and trade him next TDL
3) They match any offers this offseason and then trade him if he still wants a trade

Ways Knicks can really screw up and get nothing for him
1) Fail to trade him. He doesn't get QO or gets QO and gets an offer that Knicks don't match

DSJ did just have a triple double in Madison Square Garden...

But seriously, what kind of trade offer would it take from the Mavs?

I missed the TNT crew discussion after the big KP trade. They talk about here but I find the AD discussion a ton more interesting. The beginning is KP and start at 3:12 for AD, Lakers, collusion, and tampering talk. I see both sides but I lean more towards the Chuckster just because it's bad for the league in general.

Inside the NBA - The crew talks about Kristaps Porzingis trade to Mavericks | January 31, 2019

Thoughts???
