Aside from a bunch of RFAs and centers, the "next guy down" is Conley, who could be difficult to pry away from Memphis -- otherwise you're talking about Kobe, Joe Johnson, etc... Might as well chase Durant since the reward far outweighs the risk, even if it is a stressful endeavor.

Probably... But LeBron seems happy where he's at -- I'm not sure if Durant is so keen on staying in OKC.

Hold on.....we will have cap room to offer KD a max deal??? If so....wow I had no idea. I know he's been heavily linked to the Wizards but he really likes Dirk, Cuban and the Mavs franchise. I would lose my shit if KD came to Dallas.

So honestly, the Mavs just told him what he wanted to hear regardless of what the truth will be. I hope he develops offensively... His biggest development offensively would just be shooting FTs better.

Dirk as a backup... That was pretty much only a consideration if LMA signed. But now, he and Jordan will play perfectly together. Great offensive compliments. You want Dirk in the starting lineup. He just might be the most efficient scorer on the team next year. He will have his share of open looks.

Now that we have Jordan, how big are changes that we can land LA in Dallas? Do we have a cap size for that?

Based on all indicators tonight there is very very little chance. Listening to Cuban talk it sounded like getting depth at the 4 and 5 spots and resigning Harris and Barea is the priority.

Also want to say I am really excited about the opportunity Justin Anderson is going to get early in the season. Limiting Mathews early in the season is going to be a priority and Anderson is going to get some real playing time.

Does Cuban really think Jordan will be our franchise player? He said it on the Bob & Dan show that he sees him as Shaq and Steve Nash, an MVP-caliber player. I hope it's just cool-aid talk and Carlisle won't be forced to run the offense through DJ. That would be a disaster.

I liked him admitting that we could have tanked the season, have it not for the successful moves. This tells me that they will be ready to tank when the times comes. I like that because I think we will need that premier talent after Dirk. DJ is obviously not that kind of guy. I absolutely love the signings, first option though, he is not.

First of all: I love that interview.. Cuban is so great. I don´t think that whole "DeAndre-franchise-player" stuff necessarily means he will get isolation plays. But running the spread pick-n-roll with him does mean nothing else but that he´s the first option. And a deep post-up here and there, I don´t think it might be much of an harm.

All that means is that Jordan will be the roll guy in the pick and roll as opposed to an away from the play dive cutter. He averaged 17 and 18 doing that while Blake was out, and I don't care how you get there 17 and 18 will make everyone call you a franchise guy.

I think it means that Cuban said what needed to be said. He won't be the focal point of the offense... He won't be the offensive "franchise player." He will be a "franchise player" all the same because of his rebounding and defensive brilliance. But he will be more involved offensively. He will be used more in the pick and roll. But, he won't be the only one.

Obviously he won't be the only one. Dirk is one of the best pick and roll guys ever so he'll always be in it some but I expect Jordan to be involved in a bunch with dirk spacing for it

What's crazy after all of this is I still see Dirk as a main option when crunch time comes late in the 4th. When we need a jumper drive kick out to dirk splash

I don't think he's the first option. Maybe he'll get 10-11 attempts a game... Which will be a huge increase for him.

There definitely would have been a huge downside to tanking...

‏@espn_macmahon: Last 2 days likely kept Rick Carlisle from leaving Dallas next year. He's not rebuilding coach, and if Mavs missed on DJ, it was tank time.

@BA_Turner: Pacers have called Mavericks about possible S/T with center Roy Hibbert involving Monta Ellis, Clippers and DeAndre Jordan, sources.

@BA_Turner: Hibbert, his $15.6 million contract would go to Mavs, who would send him to Clippers in S/T for DJ. Ellis 4 year, 44 mil deal goes to Pacers

Capspace. I believe it would net us in the realm of 8 million.

@espn_macmahon: Mavs source doubts 3-way SNT that would send Roy Hibbert to Clips happens. Indy working other deals. Mavs not motivated to help LA.

I'm assuming we would have to clear cap space or gain a trade exception before we'd agree to anything that didn't net us an additional player.

Exactly. Although it's never a smart idea to burn bridges with another franchise, the Clippers need to make it worth the Mavs time.

How about Hibbert as backup tee hee. 35 million for the center position.

Actually, I wouldn't take him for free.

I'd take Hibbert if the CBA wasn't a thing and Cuban didn't care about the money or if Hibbert was waived and we could do a minimum deal. He's not awful. Just a moody head-case who played way under his potential while unhappy last year. He's still 7'2" and pretty decent for a backup. 40th in rebound rate and 27th in Wins Added among centers. He'd be one of the better backups.

Alas, he is getting 15 million guaranteed and if he plays like he did last year, he could be the worst starting center in the league.

German interview of Deandre Jordan in 2013. A poster on Fish's site translates it. Parts about Dirk:

SPORT1: In high school, you have worn number 41. Because Dirk Nowitzki?

Jordan: Yes! Because of Dirk.

SPORT1: Why did you chose Dirks number?

Jordan: He's a seven footer that does not play with his back to the basket. Dirk has an outside game. And to me, it looked like he could play all five positions.

SPORT1: Have you ever asked Dirk Nowitzki whether he'd help you to improve your offensive game?

Jordan: No, I didn't. But that'd be a dream. Because I could learn a lot from him. He is my idol. The things he can do at his size are incredible. Dirk is even a little bit longer than me, plays so variable and is one of the best for such a long time.

SPORT1: Shall we make contact with Dirk Nowitzki and his coach and mentor Holger Geschwindner? Maybe they're willing to work with you during summer...

Jordan: Yes, please. Do that. I'd go anywhere. I live in Houston during summers. That's not far from Dallas. But I'd also come to Germany for sure.

This interview makes me so proud to be a Dirk fan. I think it's awesome that he grew up idolizing Dirk. Sure sounds like he's going to work on his free throws in the offseason. After knowing this, I don't think it was ever 50/50 with the Clippers. Once he asked for 4 years, it was over.
