Pure Speculation
If you were GM of the Mavs.... and that's a big if,
Who would you package with DJ and Pops (2 nice young prospects) to gain a player that addresses the inconsistencies in the Maverick backcourt...
Namely: Superstar guards light us up like a Ricky Williams trip to the Oregon backcountry...

If it's a superstar I package pretty much anyone other than Dirk and Josh. Depending on the player we'd get back I might part with Devin.

Why does everyone seem to think DJ has an ounce of trade value, let alone any other GM in the league knowing that Pops is actually in the NBA?

Thats a sweet deal... for a superstar guard of my choosing? Chris Paul, but no way in hell that happens. Deron Williams? Probably not now. Joe Johnson? All would be great.
Realistically what your getting at is AI since he SHOULD be on the trading block, but we probably couldn't pile together a package to get him as well as other teams. And he's old. But hey a championship is a championship and that guy combined with Dirk would provide us one.

I really belieev that Pierce is starting to give up on the Celtics and that he will be on the trading block. I think he is the type of gurad thta will perfectly complement Dirk. He is strong, athletic, and can play D. But tht being said i dont think we should do anything with DJ.
Something like Harris, Stack, and cash for Pierce (idk if tht works, but i am just givin a example)

Wouldnt it be great to get AI and Pierce then pair them up with Dirk? Could give us the championship. Adding another superstar would never hurt. But either ways, Im happy with our current squad. I think this is the year that well be getting our first of many championship trophies. Book it!

Before the "superstars dont equal championship" people come in let me clarify that I don't subscribe to that belief. But I do subscribe to the "old superstars sensing their decline will play their asses off to win a ring" belief. So I think AI would be worth it in that sense. That said, I highly value youth though and think the Mavs have done an amazing job at staying fairly young and athletic.

No way we get them both, plus Dirk would not get to shoot.
I'd love to get Pierce, he's a player who I think can fit into a team well, at least much better than AI.

Exactly. It was only a few months ago that DJ was a free agent, and we re-signed him for 3 yrs @ <$2MM a year. If other teams' GMs were that interested in DJ, don't you think he would have gotten a couple offers that might have beaten that? And Pops signed for the minimum for 2 years as an undrafted--and thus free to sign with anyone--free agent. Until they prove something in some real game situations, neither guy is worth anything in trade, or we wouldn't have both of them on our roster for a total of $2MM this year.
Much as I'd like to see DJ develop into a dominant center, or at least a viable backup, I really don't see him as anything more than a novelty at this point who will only get minutes in garbage time or if Damp & Diop are both in foul trouble and the opponent requires that we have a Center on the floor (i.e., we can't go small).
