Default Warriors Waive Adonal Foyle

He should find a new team soon. A nice backup and for situational minutes at least.

Warriors Waive Adonal Foyle

August 13, 2007 - 5:05 pm
RealGM Staff Report -

The Golden State Warriors have requested waivers on center Adonal Foyle after reaching a contractual buyout agreement, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin announced today. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.

“We will certainly miss Adonal’s presence, both on and off the court,” said Mullin. “However, we think this move is in the best interest of both parties as we move forward. Adonal was a true professional in every sense of the word during his decade-long tenure with the Warriors. We wish him the best as he begins the next phase of his career.”

Foyle, 32, was originally drafted by the Warriors with the eighth overall selection in the 1997 NBA Draft and has spent his entire 10-year NBA career with Golden State. This past season, he appeared in 48 games, averaging 2.2 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.04 blocks in 10.0 minutes per contest. In 641 career games overall, he has averaged 4.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.78 blocks per contest. Among the Warriors’ all-time career leaders, Foyle currently ranks first in blocked shots (1,140), fifth in offensive rebounds (1,221), sixth in defensive rebounds (2,006) and seventh in games played (641).

I question your sincerity, Chris.

Foyle was never in the 3pt race in the first place.

No it's that other Eastern Conference team that loves giving out bad contracts

Quote:
The Orlando Magic may have set their sights on veteran center Adonal Foyle, who became a free agent Monday when he accepted a contractual buyout from the Golden State Warriors. Foyle, 32, is an experienced center/forward who could fill the void -- at least defensively -- that was created when Darko Milicic left as a free agent for the Memphis Grizzlies. Orlando Sentinel

The Magic will be able to pay him $1.2 million as a 10-year veteran, adding to his salary from the Warriors. Although still an effective defensive center, he didn't fit into the uptempo helter-skelter style that was so effective for the Warriors during the playoffs under Coach Don Nelson. In his career, his offensive skills never really developed. Orlando Sentinel

The 32-year-old Foyle appeared to have interest in joining the Orlando Magic, which would be much closer to his homeland of tiny Canouan, in the cluster of Caribbean islands called St. Vincent and the Grenadines. ESPN.com.

According to a person with knowledge of the negotiations, Foyle agreed to accept $13 million of the nearly $20 million he was due. San Jose Mercury News

With all due respect to Mr Foyle he isn't a very good NBA basketball player. With that being said, he is a very wealthy basketball player.

Orlando pays players too much. Foyle gets paid too much.
A match made in heaven.

Foyle is a pretty solid defensive player, and I really don't think he got much of a chance at all under either Montgomery or Nellie.. he really isn't a bad player at all. He just got way overpaid.

The phrases "with all due respect" and "no offense but" are naught but sugar-coated excuses for delivering the most painful of insults.

At one time, I'd have ranked Foyle the #2 shotblocker in the entire league behind the Mantis. That said, injuries and age have caught up with him. He doesn't have that explosiveness that he once had. He can no longer be the dominating shotblocking presense that he was three or four years ago. However, I still think he can be effective as a backup center for a more half-court oriented team. The contract Golden State gave him was terrible, but that's no longer a concern. He'll be picked up by someone, probably someone in the Eastern Conference. There, he'll fit nicely into the role of a veteran reserve center that can contribute solid D.

Here's a piece of trivia about Foyle - While at Colgate, he averaged a then NCAA record 6.5 blocks per game, and currently ranks #2 all time in career blocks

Yawn.. go on YouTube and you can find any player you've ever heard of getting dunked on... including your boy Stoudemire. Foyle was out of position and still got all ball in that first clip, and I would definitely listen to an argument that the second dunk was an offensive foul.
