Default Harry Reid continues his crusade for american defeat.

I'll try to keep up with janet on provide redundant news flashes.

This one's a little more interesting however.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...083001406.html

Quote:
Four months ago, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid could confidently declare: "This war is lost." Now that is an open question. A recent Zogby poll found that a majority of Americans do not believe the war is lost. And this makes Democratic policies based on the assumption of hopelessness -- rigid timetables and funding cuts -- strategically irresponsible and politically risky. If defeat is inevitable, it makes sense to cut our losses. If defeat is only possible, preemptively ensuring it would confirm a long-standing Democratic image of weakness.
Harry Reid not only has an 18% popularity rating for his congress, he now has to explain how his surrender policies would have "won" the war. Quite delicious to see this sob squirm.

From captainsquartersblog re-capping how Harry Reid can't even surrender worth a damn. First Howard Dean, then Harry Reid. Sometimes it just gets too easy.

http://www.captainsquartersblog.com/...ves/012321.php

Quote:
Shailagh Murray details the long and laughable line of Reid's miscalculations on the war. First, he and Nancy Pelosi took 108 days to get a supplemental funding bill passed, hoping to pressure the White House into ordering a withdrawal that Congress could easily have accomplished by defunding the mission. Instead, with time running out, Congress passed exactly what Bush wanted. Then Reid decided to pull an all-nighter, which turned into a debacle when Republicans actually showed up for it and spent more time on the floor than Reid did, arguing against an early withdrawal.

The final straw for Reid came when he dropped the war debate entirely. He figured that Iraq would get worse and the pressure on Republicans would increase. Unfortunately, Reid miscalculated again. The end of the debate gave the surge some breathing space, and the perception of its success got shaped by actual facts and news rather than Democrat spin.

Now Reid wants to cut a deal, and he's desperate to get it done while he has any credibility left at all. He's broken from his hard-line stance about timetables for withdrawal, and now he's just talking about using back-door methods to get modest troop reductions with no firm date at all to end the mission. After Petraeus reports to Congress on the military progress from the surge and on the political reform agreement engineered by Maliki, Reid will have little standing to declare the war "lost" as he did just a few months ago.

He could pick up some Republicans at the margins. John Warner wants to see a 5,000-troop reduction by Christmas as a token to show that we won't be there forever, even if he has no idea by his own admission which troops should leave and what functions should be abandoned. However, given his actions and rhetoric all year long, few Republicans have any reason to trust Reid or to pull his chestnuts out of the fire. Just as in dating, desperation does not attract interest.

This was an interesting take on Sir Harry RunsaLot.

Unlike the dKos and MoveOn types, I think that Reid's opposition to the war was prosaic to a most ordinary degree. He was searching for a political advantage. (Don't get me wrong here, I have much more respect for someone who opposes the war on the grounds of tawdry political opportunism than those who believe placing 25 million people under the rule of al Qaeda and Ahmadinejad is a neutral act, this alone places Reid on a higher moral plane than most of Nancy Pelosi's caucus.) He is keenly aware of the Democrats's vulnerability on any issue dealing with the safety of Americans and wished to remove Iraq as an issue in the 2008 election. If you understand that one fact, you understand Reid's motivations and the danger he is in.

Since dems are so adept at making decisions based on polls (you know bubba showed 'em how)...

Quote:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has backed down from demands for a withdrawal of our troops in Iraq by next spring.

Selling voters on cut and run was always tough, but now a new UPI/Zogby Poll finds that 54% of Americans believe the Iraq war is not lost.

Beyond the achievements of our forces, the public is obviously impressed that Iraq's five top political leaders have agreed on a series of compromises, including oil wealth distribution and provincial elections.
54% huh? funny about time...As I mentioned Janett...it's pretty early to be counting your dem chickens..

Nevada Dem Veterans & Military Families Counter-Rally! (Rally)
ALERT! OUT-OF-STATE, PRO-WAR GROUP COMING TO CARSON CITY!

Move America Forward*, a pro-war, California-based Republican front group, opposes a change of course in Iraq and has organized to push back on Americans’ resolve to end the war.

The group will rally outside of Sen. Reid’s office on Sept. 3. They do not want Sen. Reid to lead the fight in Congress to bring a responsible end to the war.

Let’s organize more people than they do to tell this out-of-state group that Nevadans support a change of course in Iraq:

Support Our Troops – Change the Course

WHAT TO BRING: American flags – small, medium and large. We hope everyone participating is holding a flag.

*Move America Forward is led by neo-conservative radio host Melanie Morgan, who once told the San Francisco Chronicle that the editor of the New York Times should be tried for treason and “sent to the gas chamber,” for reporting violations of civil liberties by the Bush Administration, (San Francisco Chronicle, “New chapter in battle of words over tracking terrorist financing” 6/29/06)

that's an odd comment in light of the message in these posts, and that is that the perception of the war is the real battle.

that's roughly half and half, imho the war strongly affecting the presidential race will be decided by where it is in about 12 months.

but then nobody in this race, including any republican candidate, is defending or endorsing the current administration and their conduct in this war.

Very funny. Hopefully Reid and Pelosi will be out soon. Probably the only chance the dems have of keeping congress.

Quote:
Face It Harry, This War Is Lost... Only 1/3 of Nevadans Would Vote Again For Reid

Face it, Harry.
This war is lost:

Only one-third of Nevadans would vote for white-flag-waver Harry Reid if the election were held today.
The Patriot Room reported, via LGF:
Nearly half of Nevadans have had enough of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid as the powerful Democrat heads into his re-election campaign, a new Las Vegas Review-Journal poll finds.

About a third of the state's voters would re-elect Reid if the 2010 election were held today, according to the poll, but 45 percent say they would definitely vote to replace him. Seventeen percent would consider another candidate.

The findings are echoed by another poll question about Reid's popularity that finds the four-term incumbent to be a polarizing figure in his home state.

Half of Nevada voters had an unfavorable view of Reid, while 38 percent had a favorable view and 11 percent a neutral opinion.
