That's not a terrible idea, but I always get the feeling that Mavs are overly loyal to their productive players. Barnes is a model Mavs citizen, and you know that goes a long with our boys in blue!

I would be a lot more optimistic if they managed to move Wes this summer regardless of who the pick is.

I'm also a little skittish to trade Barnes. I'm not sure we can with his 2/50mill contract, but I really like his leadership and you need leadership continuity. He's not off the table for me, particularly if we get Doncic, but I don't want to trade him.

Matthews? Unless we get someone else in the draft/FA, I would be 100% okay with trading him or getting him signed to a super cheap long-term contract.

I doubt the FO can move Wes this summer with him coming off an injury, but I bet they try to trade him around the deadline, when both his value as a player and his expiring contract can be maximized.

[QUOTE=sefant77;1435162]Doncic could be also a Point Forward.

The Mavs told allready a thousand times that this is the last lottery and they are planning to be a winning team again. So im pretty sure they would take Doncic over projects like JJJ and Bamba...[/QUOTE

8 days until the lottery... So many topics I'd love to get into, but we really need to find out the order before I spend any time on it. Everything is still so hypothetical right now.

This is from a year ago, but it's pretty great -- Bamba is a funny dude... He might actually have a future in broadcasting after basketball.

Mo Bamba interviews DeAndre Ayton and Chuck O'Bannon at the McDonald's All-American Game https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=2MT04aQ2C80

Yeah I referred to that a posts ago. Honestly, it's a huge boost imo because the kid is smart. Smart goes a long way in development.

Guys with character really liven up a team and franchise.

Another thing phenomenal about this is Bamba is a good inch or two taller than Ayton in that video. And Ayton is much slimmer. So Ayton definitely grew both in height and size in a year unless the measurements are wrong.

17/10/10 for little Luka today in 22 minutes. Very impressive.

AND considering the much slower pace

AND considering like a third of all NBA assist wouldnt count as an assist in europe, they are much stricter with handing out assist in the boxscores

Luka's 17/10/10 is impressive.

So was Marvin Bagley's 32 points and 21 boards against Florida State.

And Mo Bamba's 22 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 blocks against Kansas.

And that game against Rutgers where Jaren Jackson Jr also had 8 blocks, but did it in just 26 minutes (that's one every 3:15 of playtime!)

Some of the single-serving stat lines on these guys are insane.

That would fast forward our "process" considerably! Text someone...make it happen.

Another sign they might take Doncic #1

With free agency approaching, Capela is due for a huge payday. He is currently in the final year of his rookie deal, making approximately $2.3 million this season. Even though he is a restricted free agent, Clint Capela figures to have a list of suitors once July 1 arrives. According to a league source, one such team is the Phoenix Suns. They have kept tabs on him throughout the season, and have reportedly become “enamored” with him. They have plans to offer Capela a max or near-max contract once free agency begins. The source requested anonymity because he isn’t authorized to comment on the Suns’ plans.

There is just no point whatsoever to waste time with Capela this summer.....Morey is going to match a max

Phoenix has nothing to lose by trying... I just hope we don't waste our time with him when there are excellent centers in the draft and easier to get RFAs that can help us out.

Should have sent Don Carter's wife so the NBA has to give us the top pick. Would make a great storyline like the kid the Cavs employed for their #1 picks.

Dwain Price: #Mavs VP of basketball operations Michael Finley will represent the Mavs in the May 15 NBA Draft Lottery in Chicago. And PG Dennis Smith Jr. has some sage advice for him. “Take a rabbit foot with him,” Smith said today.

I hope the Suns do it at 12:01 so Cuban dont waste time with an attempt just to screw Morey with a max contract including PO and tradekicker etc....

If we draft Ayton or Bamba, then Capela won't even be on our radar... Let's get it right before free agency rolls around.

Ayton or Bamba on draft night

Overpaying Aaron Gordon to get him away from Orlando (after politely asking Lebron and Paul George).

Ayton or Bamba
Gordon
Barnes
Wes
DSJ

Thats finally a solid talent level for Rick to work with

This would be our best case scenario offseason. With Wes coming off the books or even possibly tradeable at the deadline we could have a really nice, flexible core in place with our only major need being a 3 and D secondary ballhandler type to put next to DSJ at the 2

I prefer Wes off the bench, but if he starts and we haven't upgraded the SG, then I pray his minutes are fairly lower than they have been.

I really want Powell to succeed and step up and own that starting 4 spot or the majority of minutes there. Mostly because he has worked so hard and we've seen clear improvement and also I love his high flying act and his consistent hustle. Also, Motley deserves a chance to log plenty of minutes at the 5. Because of this I go back and forth on who we could use from the draft most IF best case scenario being Motley and Powell take more steps forward in their progress.

Powell is going to be 27 in the summer, that ship has sailed....last years Powell is pretty much his ceiling.

In other news Aaron Gordon is just 12 months older than Mikal Bridges...

Haha 27 is not old bro. People are getting extreme with this notion. Sure, You don't start building a team around him obviously, but the dude has put tons of work in and it's finally paying off. No team is ever going to have a bunch of 21 year olds winning a title. Fwiw, Our championship team was pretty old.

Erica's hot takes:

Mikal Bridges will have a career PER around that of Kawhi Leonard

Ayton will play fewer than 40 games in 2018-2019

Orlando will draft Young as early as 4th if they don't win a lottery spot. He will average 20-5 but on 40%/32% from three

Sexton will play in Europe or China within 5-6 years of being drafted

Chicago will get either Mikal Bridges or Porter and will get an amazing talent. They will be good next year

While I don't agree with the notion that Powell has realized his potential, I do think we've seen what he is. A high-effort, high work ethic roll man.

That being said, I think giving Aaron Gordon the max is a bad idea. You need to make sure your max guys are elite players to get anywhere in this league, he just is not. It makes more sense to draft Marvin Bagley and save the cap space to absorb some combination of salary/ picks/ players.

Edit: I typed this out but now I’m kind of torn. It would be nice to add two good young pieces, even if one is getting overpaid. That being said, I bet the Magic are skiddish after letting Oladipo go and match. We shouldn’t waste our time.

You have to overpay to get talent in the FA. And yes, there will be always players who arent max player but are lucky enough to get it because they are in the right moment a free agent.

And i think drafting Bagley doesnt make sense because he plays the position with the deepest talent pool in the FA.

Drafting a center and you can try to sign Gordon/Parker/Randle (maybe even Favors)

Drafting Bagley and you have to find a center in the FA but you can scratch Capela/Cousins/Jordan. And after that the center market is crap.

We still have Motley at center of we are talking about potential centers coming in to contribute right away. Bagley and Motley might be fun to watch.

I keep coming back to Bagley. He’s a consistent 3 away from being a fantastic shot creator. Coupled with his work on the boards and physical tools, I think he fits here really well. I also think the Grizz take him if they’re at 2.

My attitudes keep changing.

Used to be really down on Doncic and Bagley

Today I'm hoping we don't get Ayton or Jackson and super high on Bagley

More I think about Bagley, the more I think he could be a legitimate PnR/PnP threat for us with Smith. Dude can create his own offense and can be part of an effective two-man game.

@espn_macmahon: The Mavs will send two reps to Tuesday's lottery: executive Michael Finley, a Chicago native; and assistant equipment manager Neil Herskowitz, a double-lung transplant recipient who is a favorite throughout the organization.

@bobbykaralla: Neil brought back the No. 9 pick last year, which resulted in Dennis Smith Jr. He and Michael Finley will try to make it two good years in a row next week.

Wow, how could you forget Harris at 5? I'm disappointed...

He was technically drafted FOR us and wasn’t drafted BY us, but true. He was our most recent lottery pick in the top 7
