Default New prediction from NBA draftnet

Ok...they now have us taking Jerome beasley....who, conveniently, we're working out the day before the draft....it'll be his 13th workour day in a row.

Jerome Beasley
Birthdate: 5/17/80
NBA Position: Power Forward
College: North Dakota
Class: Senior
Ht: 6-10
Wt: 241
Hometown: Moreno Valley, CA
High School: Moreno Valley
Team Site Profile 2002 Stats

Strengths: Does a great job on establishing position on the blocks ... Owns a nice turnaround jumper that he can make from 10-14 feet out with regularity ... Shows above average post footwork when maneuvering around the lane ... Mobile player able to run the court with some speed ... When receiving the ball in the post he uses a quick spin move to gain separation for the dunk or lay-up ... Has extremely soft touch around the basket ... Solid finisher who understands how to use his body to shield off defenders ... Emotional player who plays the game with enthusiasm ... Doesn't need much time to execute his offense from the perimeter ... Has shown the ability to catch and shoot from 18 feet ... With his soft hands and ability to keep his body wide in the post he is able to catch most passes ... Makes great use of the glass when facing the basket ... Has 3-point range on his jumper ... Defensively Beasley shows above average lateral movement ... Shows a solid hook shot when he turns into the lane ...

Weaknesses: Has to work on his rebounding fundamentals such as boxing out better under the basket ... Could stand to tone his body which looks as though he is carrying a little baby fat ... Not an extreme athlete by any means as he has average quickness and leaping ability ... Back to the basket moves are in need of improvement like a drop step and an up and under ... Settles to shoot from the perimeter a little too much instead of backing defenders down in the low post ... Defensively his post defense will need to be improved ... Lacks the leaping ability to be a shot blocker at the NBA level ... Not a great rebounder when it comes to rebounding out of position ... Level of competition will raise some concerns with NBA GM's as he hasn't played against great big men ... Shot selection can be inconsistent at times ... While not a bona fide tweener Beasley is still figuring out what position will maximize his skil! ls ...

-Matthew Maurer
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Strengths: A late bloomer who has NBA ability. Bigtime scorer. Has a nose for the basket. Leads Div2 in scoring at 25.5 per game. Rebounds the ball exceptionally well with very long arms and good reflexes. Good inside/outside game for a big man. Scores at will, but still a team player. Nice outside shot. Can even bury the 3 ball. Tough inside moves with a nice hook shot. Outstanding leaping ability and explosive dunks. Seems to always be in the right place at the right time. Good clutch shooter. Has a lot of raw untapped potential.

Weaknesses: Not very quick getting out on the break because he takes a while to get his frame in motion. For the most part he is unproven. Hasn't played againt great competition (division 2). It's tougher to gauge his talent against Div 2 competition where it's much easier for a good player to stand out. Although he had 20 points and 10 boards against Kansas last year (Collison and Gooden) Started out in JC. Could be more aggressive on the defensive end of the court.

-DHL

Notes: Evidently wants to be a boxing promoter after his basketball career, as witnessed by his Don King hairdo. A player who could really improve his draft status with impressive workouts before the draft. If he can show the same kind of scoring ability in Chicago against other draft prospects, he could secure a spot in the mid first round area.

Maurer makes him sound like a flop, but then DHL makes him look like the next Chris Webber!

Not a great rebounder vs. Rebounds the ball exceptionally well

he has average quickness and leaping ability vs. Outstanding leaping ability and explosive dunks

These "scouting reports" are so unreliable.

Consensus seems to be that he has a decent outside shot, and that he needs to tone up.

Does not sound to be defensively inclined, therefore i dont see dallas taking him.

As well as Mobile player able to run the court with some speed and Not very quick getting out on the break because he takes a while to get his frame in motion

These services can drive you crazy, BUT I wouldn't be surprised to see us go to him if we keep our pick and don't trade up.

why trade up?both sounds quite promesing.

though maurer played in Div2,he still sounds like a great potential.
Beasly just sounds like a beast,i think he could be an Elton Brand in a couple of years.

I just noticed that Malik Badiane is no longer in the first two rounds....do they know something ?

Also TJ Ford has dropped to Milwaukee at #8.

Luke Walton has moved up to early 2nd round.

Neither Lang nor Perkins is moving up.

Much of the rest is the same, but Lampe has moved up to Miami at #5.

Sorry Mad, but Vranes is nowhere to be found (although hansen has moved up to very early 2nd round)

Ndudi Ebi has also not been in their past two drafts. I think they just got careless. This is a fun site, but they don't have any inside information. They probably read Andy Katz and Chad Ford to get insight on who is rising or falling..

yes i also think they are idiots and forgot about Badiane. If he is there at 29, i think dallas selects him.

off topic question: how come dallas has pick 29 and SA has 28? we had the same record but we lost the tie breaker for home court, is there a different tie breaker for draft picks?

PSU...I may be wrong...but I think it was a coin flip. In the 2nd round, we pick at #28.

So the "flip" winner got precedence in the first round and the loser gets it in the 2nd round.

Don't we pick at #58, also the last?

ahh...that stinks. they should take into account the fact that the spurs won the championship. Maybe wait and see who get farther in the playoffs or something instead of flipping a coin.

No, Chi...we pick at #57....

that's the one we chose to keep rather than sending it to Miami this year.

next year our 2nd rounder has to go to miami....(as of now).

Detroit is scheduled for the #58 and final pick. It was sent to Det from San Antonio in the great Meng Bateer trade.

do they flip because they both had the same record? Is the coin flip the tie-breaker?

Default RE: New prediction from NBA draftnet

A medicore big man does nothing for me. Look at our roster for next year: We've go the following big men under contract: Dirk, Raef, Bradley, Esch, Najera. Throw in a free agent and that's six pretty decent veteran big men under contract - five of whom can play power forward. Now, I'm not against drafting a power forward or a center. But that big man better have one hell of an upside because he's not going to be playing anytime soon. If Beasly is a one trick pony. He can only play power forward. If he wants playing time, he'd have to get it after five other Mavericks get thiers. Is he worth partioning off development minutes during garbage time? I don't think so. Beasly's potential is to someday be a nice backup. We are already a team filled with nice backups. On this team, Beasly would just be the worst of the nice backups. The only way I think it makes sense to draft a big guy is either to trade up into the lottery or pick a big project. Badaine and Vranes make more sense for this club at the #29 than someone like Beasly or West. If it comes down to it, I'd rather draft a point guard or a swingman. Talent from those position always falls and it looks like this year is no exception. Consider that we only have four guards and swingmen under contract and it's obvious that there is much more room for instant contribution there as well.

check out the 6/19 ESPN Insider....a number of players, including Badiane are either on the fence orout of this draft. it's all about being "guaranteed" a first round spot.

This was a good move by the Mavericks if they are negotiating with the Heat. They can then require the stipulation be included in any trade offer.
