Postgame Thread: the best TEAM in the league beats OKC
It's gotta be embarrassing to lose on your home court when Dirk only plays 12 minutes (hell, he even got 13 points in that stretch...)

For what its worth, Dirk has put a couple tweets up in the past few minutes. Hopefully he's not hurt too bad if he's doing something trivial like that?

I've never seen the Mavs play this tough and physical. When Westbrook got injured on that play, the mavs didn't show any mercy whats so ever.... One word, beautiful!!!!!

Durant chokes big time during crunch time!
Announcers are so bad, wow!
But, good win, the Team played well, especially Kidd had a good game i think. Butler good at the beginning and at the end!
Now Toronto, without Bargnani!

Why can't this site handle 100 visitors??
Ok, way to go:
-Stevenson
-Butler
-Matrix
-Ajinca
I think these guys upped their game in Dirk's absence to handle the forward position. Chandler, JET and Kidd did their thing to hold it down otherwise. Obviously, if we lose Dirk, our offense suffers but we can still be a top-5 defense without Dirk and that's gonna give us a chance against just about anybody for a night.

Oh, and who called the whole Ajinca thing?
Yeah, I might have.
What'd I say? Not a ton of minutes most likely this season, but I bet he steps up big when injuries hit. How 'bout my boy draining the corner trey with a hand in the face. He's 7'1".

Impressive!
A defense, that looked totally lost with and without Dirk for 3 Quarters, held the Thunder to 12 points in the 4th. Marion, Terry and Chandler to the rescue! At some point I felt like the Thunder would have at least about 40+ points in the paint, but they ended up with 38. Not too bad considering how weak the defense looked most of the night
I especially loved Chandler again tonight.
Best wishes to Dirk ... I hope he'll be back vs. the Spurs.

I do love how this team just went right to work without their best offensive player. This is just a team that's rolling right now. I think the all the veterans on this roster helps in situations like this as they know how to adjust their game on the fly to make up for a vital cog missing. Hope Dirk is back soon though (like Thursday soon).
That defense was absolutely stifling in the 4th quarter.

This was an awesome team win, everyone stepped up and played major roles, especially down the stretch in the 4th quarter. I was impressed with Kidd, Butler, Marion, Chandler, and Terry especially in the 4th! I'm lovin how this team is playing right now.

After a long five-day break during the holidays, the Dallas Mavericks began a stretch of five games in seven nights with the match-up against the Oklahoma City Thunder. To start the day, the Mavericks knew they were already going to be without Rick Carlisle. They didn't know they were going to lose Brian Cardinal to an illness and then lose Dirk Nowitzki to a sore right knee in the second quarter. Nowitzki went down at the 9:10 mark of the second quarter and was unable to return to the game. His status for the game against the Toronto Raptors remains questionable. Despite those surprises, the Mavericks had a top-to-bottom team effort in the 103-93 victory.
The Mavericks had a sluggish start to the game but got their footing and shot the lights out with 54% shooting in the opening quarter. The three-ball didn't get any rust over the holiday break as they shot 50% (5-10) in the opening quarter. They finished the game shooting 48% from the field and 47% from the three-point line. The Mavericks held the Thunder to 43% shooting and 35% from the three-point line.

Great win on so many levels. I just loved the way we locked up and showed NO MERCY. Once the Mavs get into that killer defensive mode, we're damn near unstoppable. All the Thunder could do was jack up brick after brick, and after their bricks we attacked them on offense. This win really gets me pumped

Dirk rolled his ankle, but somehow injured his knee...(?)
13 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists in 12 minutes.

This is my favorite win of the year. Gosh what a gutty win. You don't have your coach. Your superstar goes down in the second quarter. Your second leading scorer is laying a massive stink bomb. You're in one of the best home arenas in the NBA, your center gets into foul trouble.
I mean good grief. So many other years, this team would have packed it in. Most teams in the NBA would have packed it in and focused on not losing the easy one tomorrow night. But this team is different. This team is hungry. This team is out to prove something. This team is legit. They didn't back down, they played hard and rough. And they strutted their stuff in the closing minutes because they know what kind of statement this was. In a young season full of statement games, this was another huge one. It is so freaking awesome to watch this team go about its business right now.
Most recaps are probably going to start with Marion, and believe me I'll get to him in a second. But I'm starting with Tyson effing Chandler. What a beast that man is. I thought he scuffled a bit in the first half. They were really letting some things go down low and he let it get to him. But goodness did he channel that emotion properly in the second half. He was everywhere, and he did everything. He closed down every gap coming into the lane, he protected the rim, and created space on the offensive end. He did it all. When he pounded that ball even further into the wedge on the backward I stood and clapped. Awesome.
Now, Shawn Marion. I am an unabashed lover of defense and the little things, and Shawn Marion brings so much of both. Tonight he brought the defense, he brought the rebounding, he brought the energy, and he brought the big things (scoring). He carved Oklahoma up with his dive cuts and his wack spin-post moves. He ran the floor and finished (mostly). He was awesome.
Deshawn Stevenson gave this team a huge lift in extended minutes as the rotation had to be adjusted. He played huge defense on a player that realistically he should never even be asked to guard due to their height (and it's a bit of an indictment on KD's young skillset that he couldn't take more advantage of that difference), and he played well within the offense.
Kidd ended up one measley rebound away from a triple double. He shot poorly but played well in every other area, especially defensively where he really seemed to be giving maximum effort to keep Westbrook contained.
Butler really helped this team in stretches as they really, really needed someone to put the ball in the basket before the fourth quarter, but 21 points on 22 shots? Bleach.
Jet...what a weird game. What a stretch of weird games. Eight assists, some of them very nifty, but five turnovers. Couldn't score to save his life until the fourth quarter AGAIN, but absolutely money once we got there. I love his attitude in the fourth, but at what point do we expect more than one good quarter from someone so important to this team?
I respect the hell out of Skin's basketball knowledge, but it boggles my mind that he could watch Brendan Haywood play this year and not see a difference. He was absolutely invisible tonight.
Pretty blah game from JJ. Attacked well but made some poor decisions. Also of note, no shooting guard minutes for JJ at all tonight, despite the extra strain on the rotation. Could be a machup thing, could be a Casey thing.
Dirk was obviously quite good in his limited minutes. I hate to finish this post with a downer, but I have to say, given the weird way in which he injured himself, "sore knee" concerns me. Probably nothing, but I'm concerned.
On a brigher note, awesome, AWESOME win tonight. Love this team.

The team really stepped up. Everyone (well except Haywood).
Marion 20/9, Kidd almost a TD, Stevenson with great production in 19min.
Im still angry with Terry. Even with his great 4th his overall statsline sucks. We won because the Thunder had no clue what to do in the 4th. Their PG (lol MVP candidat Westbrook) had no clue. This wont happen deep in the playoffs, there Terry wont be able to save his sucking for three quarters ass with 4-5 baskets...
Lets hope Dirks knee is fine.

I'm gonna say again what I said in the GDT: this is a mindset we haven't seen from the Mavs since around March 2007. Chandler's energy has made this team absolutely nasty again.
