Interesting stat.
The Mavs went 33-8 in the first half of the season last year.
They finished 27-14.
The Mavs went 25-16 the first half of this season.
They're playing good basketball. If the game we're seeing them play is for real right now, we could still get wildly lucky and hope for around a 55-win season (Could they manage 30-11?). Not too shabby considering the start, and it's not unrealistic.

RE:Interesting stat.
I'm not going to make any bold predictions because I wouldn't want to jinx the team, but when you look at the schedule it's not all that bad. A few tidbits about the 41 remaining games:
20 at home, 21 on the road.
13 games vs. teams currently seeded 1-8 in the West. 7 at home, 6 on the road.
6 games vs. teams currently seeded 1-8 in the East. 3 at home, 3 on the road.
9 games vs. the Top 6 title contenders (SA, LA, Sac, Minny, Det, Ind). 6 at home (including Sac twice), 3 on the road (Sac, SA, Minny).
The Mavs will have to continue to improve their defensive effort, work on getting acclimated to their offensive roles, and get/stay healthy, but if you look at it, we've already played a bit better than half of our games against likely playoff teams, and have gotten most of the really tough road games out of the way. I certainly think we can expect this team to put up a better than 25-16 mark the second half and comfortably clear the 50-win mark. I haven't looked at the other contenders' remaining schedules, so how well we'd have to do to get home court in the first round is an open question.

RE:Interesting stat.
Notes concerning the schedules for SA and Minny:
SA
16 vs. 1-8 in West. 8 home, 8 away.
6 vs. 1-8 in East. 3 home, 3 away.
11 vs. Top 6. 6 home, 5 away.
Minny
17 vs. 1-8 in West. 9 home, 8 away.
5 vs. 1-8 in East. 3 home, 2 away.
11 vs. Top 6. 6 home, 5 away.
So it looks like Dallas has the most favorable schedule of the three principle midwest contenders. Fewer games against current Western playoff-seeded teams. Fewer games against title contenders. Fewer road games against current playoff-seeded teams. Only matters if we win our own, so let's get out there and do it, Mavs.

RE:Interesting stat.
And for Sac and LA:
LA
13 vs. 1-8 in West. 7 home, 6 away.
6 vs. 1-8 in East. 2 home, 4 away.
9 vs. Top 6. 5 home, 4 away.
Sac
26 total road games
18 vs. 1-8 in West. 7 home, 11 away.
9 vs. 1-8 in East. 4 home, 5 away.
14 vs. Top 6. 5 home, 9 away.
LA's looks pretty close to ours. We're only two losses off their pace right now, so tomorrow night's game is an important one if we want to have a chance of overtaking them.
Sac...whew. If they get home court throughout they will have earned it. Their schedule is brutal. Easily the most road games. Easily the most games against current playoff seeds. Easily the most games against the league's elite, with 9 of them away from precious Arco. I can't believe they've made it through this much of the season playing only 6 games, 5 at home, against the other 6 title contenders. We can certainly do ourselves a huge favor by beating them in their two trips to the AAC.

RE:Interesting stat.
Let's hope the Mavs can really finish strong this year. We have a history of letting up in the latter part of the regular season. The last 2 years we've had the division lead and let it slip away. Even if we don't win the division, I'd be happy to see a strong finish for a change. It would be something for this team to build on going into the playoffs. Teams with momentum going in have an advantage over teams sagging IMO.

RE: Interesting stat.
Sacto has had the easiest schedule in the NBA to this point in the year. The Spurs have had the 7th easiest schedule in the NBA are are only two games up on us. As the season continues, things should even out. And I hope, if the Mavs continue to play as well as they have recently, that when they get into the easy part of thier schedule that they will gain confidence going into the playoffs.
