As someone said earlier, the only reasonable decision now is to go young. I don't think Roy and Camby would want to come here anymore.
Lin is going NY or Houston. Dragic is the only player left.

looks like the only PG (or FA for that matter) that we're currently negotiating with is Jason Kidd
this is so frustrating

No point in piling on a bunch of old bones if it isn't going to get you anywhere...
A youth movement is starting to make a lot of sense right now.

Ramon Session is an unrestricted free agent, maybe we should get him.
Other decent PG's available: Jerryd Bayless, Raymond Felton, Aaron Brooks.

I feel bad for Dirk. Guy took less money so Cubes could build a contender. Now he's left with a smaller paycheck, and 8th seed 1st round exit team (at best) for possibly the rest of his career...

I am so depressed.
35 wins sounds high at the moment. We're like Warriors/Kings/Suns status right now.

So I guess the plan is to sit on money and hope we are going to reel in a big fish. The problem with that is our franchise is becoming less attractive by the day.
Are we going to remain financially flexible like the Kings, Warriors, Bobcats, Pistons and Bucks? I would love to be mentioned with the likes of them.

Dirk might want to seriously think about developing personal issues tht keeps him in germany this year. That may be the only thing that can obviate this cluster.

Uh no, Dirk and a bunch of scrubs can lead us to an 8th seed / first round exit. But of course, that really isn't worth anything.

I wouldn't put us that low. But I do think we will get bounced again in the first round next year. I still wouldn't be surprised if they can put together a team that will finish with a better record than the Brooklyn Nets. But we ARE a mediocre team right now.

K, has MBT officially gambled away the last 2 Dirk years already or should we withold judgement until FA is over? This is so depressing watching what appears to be an utter failure so far.

I think it's time to take a risk on young players build like the Nuggets. We can gather trade assets and eventually get the next superstar. This whole "get a big free agent" thing never pans out for the Mavs.

Hard not to be depressed right now. Not that they won't compete (Dirk won't go down easy) but so many teams in the league are good now/better than the Mavs.

High octane Dirk maybe. Old Dirk with a cast of scrubs in a competitive West... I don't know if we have the depth to march through a 82 game season. KG in his prime barely got his club to the postseason when he had zero help.

This shouldn't cause the Mavs to change their thinking on Dragic or Lin or anybody else. But there's an excellent argument to be made that it should cause them to go ahead and begin the rebuild in earnest.

I'm trying to withhold judgement until the pre-season starts, but this offseason has been one huge Lamar so far.

The front office still doing nothing.
Dirk deserves better than this. Yes, they got him a championship by lucking out with Chandler and some other players, but they have dropped the ball tremendously here. I'm not just talking about letting Chandler and the title team leave (that is defensible), but constantly trading draft picks away throwing away young talent for cap space, no backup plan for Williams (other than the hopeless move of trying to get Howard next offseason), after Nash left only managing Josh Howard as a true second banana to Dirk (One of the only true superstars of the 2000s era). When Dirk is gone, the ineptitude of this front office may really come to light.
And yes, I'm pissed off and maybe a little bit out of line. I really don't care, it's inexcusable that this front office has given on answers as to what plan they have after Deron rejected us. Cuban ran his mouth and burned bridges with Nash, and now we're looking at:
Kidd
West
Marion
Dirk
Haywood
As a starting lineup next year. Absolutely pathetic.

It's beginning to look increasingly like it's going to be Aaron Brooks as our PG.

Thunder
Lakers
Clippers
Spurs
Grizzlies
Nuggets
Minnesota
Rockets
We're battling with the Jazz, Blazers and Warriors group just outside the playoffs.
Suns, Hornets and Kings probably a notch below.

The Mavs will have to put a product that keep the fan base enthusiastic...maybe not a championship team but at least a contender while keeping the powder dry.
They may accomplish this with a gimmick or with an aggressive youth movement.

You were right. Everyone else was wrong. You win. It's old... I get that you're mad at the front office, but you're taking it out on this forum. Can the rest of us talk about something else for once, please?

You know, you are correct, I have been taking out my frustration on this board and I apologise for it. No place else to take my frustration out I guess.
I must admit my frustration and kicking myself in the head for re-upping my season tickets is very high right now, but I am going to be frustrated and not talk about chandler anymore. That point has been made.

Watching the Mavs essentially not do anything is....disheartening.

If Goran goes to the Bobcats (for a reasonable contract) over the Mavs......

So Deron to Brooklyn basically deflated everything. We HAVE to overpay because we are not attractive anymore to free agents.
Nash is off the market. Dragic is about to go off the market. So is Lin.
Anyone want to overpay for Felton?

I give 3:2 odds that Nash brings Grant Hill to LA.

Sooooo... Javaris Critteron, Toney Douglas, Darius Morris and Robert Sacre?
(their last two first rounders and last two top second rounders).

Dragic or Lin would definitely be in line with rebuilding, which seems like a much better option at this point than holding out hope for CP3 or anyone else who isn't available right now...

They're young, but what do they cost. If your read before, rightly or wrongly, was that Dragic isn't worth his asking price, you should still feel the same way. That's all I'm saying.
