I guess my point was, when LeBron first announced we was going there I wasn't very worried because I figured "hell, they have like 4 players on the roster now with no money. Good luck with that!"

Then I hear Mike Miller is going there..
Then I hear Wade talking about how they'll do anything to keep Haslem
Then Shaq wants to go there...
Then Fisher has a meeting with Riley...

In my mind they went from having no options and no shot at success next year, to potentially actually putting a team together. That's scary as hell.

Yeah.. I think it was obvious for many reasons already discussed (most obvious was the way they didn't reveal their salaries even though every other reported signing had the deal down to the million).

I think all of them realized, individually, they won't ever get to the Michael/Kobe discussion competing against each other, and this is not counting cats like Kevin Durant, Chris Paul and John Wall (unless one of them just rolls all over the others). They HAD to unite. Even if they none of them will be respected like MJ/Bird/Magic/Kobe, their team has the potential to meet the 80s' Cs, the Showtime, MJ's Bulls and now Kobe's Lakers. Possibly surpass.

They are already favorites in Vegas lines. Wade won 47 games with the a bunch of crap around him and now they've added a player who is around Gasol's level and LEBRON FREAKING JAMES.... and presumably kept Udonis and added Mike Miller. Their rooks aren't raw pieces of meat either. All three are 22 year old college-trained guys who should atleast be decent as #8-12 guys and possibly getting lucky with one of them doing even better.

The ONLY thing standing in their path is the Lakers, who have the savvy and the size, even if their top 3 is not as dynamite as LBJ/Wade/Bosh. Boston will regress and forget about the Magic/Nuggets/Hawks/Bulls/Mavs (I feel weird putting us in this conversation having crashed out in the first round three of four seasons) if they don't make a move. Just Fish joining them could be major and could very well tip the scales (not by much but enough to demonstrate a favorite).

Doomsday has occurred.

Now we know why Lebron said he was changing his jersey number. He wasn't talking about going to Chicago, he was talking about Miami, who also retired Jordan's number for some reason.

Tampering and collusion of the highest order. Once a cheater always a cheater, Miami sure knows how to earn its *****.

Miami Heat owner, Micky Arison, got his nest egg to start Carnival Cruise Lines by running guns for the Israeli Mafia...

But no conspiracy theories are needed in this case when there are so many conspiracy facts lying about...

Jackson rips Gilbert's LeBron comments

CHICAGO -- Jesse Jackson criticized Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert on Sunday, saying Gilbert sees LeBron James as a "runaway slave" and that the owner's comments after the free-agent forward decided to join the Miami Heat put the player in danger.

His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave. This is an owner employee relationship -- between business partners -- and LeBron honored his contract.

-- Rev. Jesse Jackson on Cavs owner Dan Gilbert's comments regarding LeBron James
Shortly after James announced his decision last week, Gilbert fired off an incendiary letter to Cleveland's fans, ripping the 25-year-old and promising to deliver a title before James wins one. He called James' decision "cowardly" and later told The Associated Press he believes James quit during a handful of Cavaliers playoff games.

"He has gotten a free pass," Gilbert told the AP in a phone interview late Thursday night. "People have covered up for [James] for way too long. Tonight we saw who he really is."

Jackson said Gilbert's comments were "mean, arrogant and presumptuous."

"He speaks as an owner of LeBron and not the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers," the reverend said in a release from his Chicago-based civil rights group, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. "His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave. This is an owner employee relationship -- between business partners -- and LeBron honored his contract."

Messages were left Sunday night seeking comment from Gilbert, the Cavaliers and James.

Jackson also called Gilbert's comments an attack on all NBA players and said the owner should face a "challenge" from the league and the players' association.

NBA spokesman Tim Frank declined comment.

Did Jesse Jackson really just compare a guy who's net worth is an estimated $90mil (and growing) to a "runaway slave"???

Sometimes I wish MLK would rise from the grave and punch that headline-grabbing race monger in the throat...

Over the course of the season he wasn't much, but as always he hit some big, big shots in the playoffs. He basically saved the Lakers asses in Game 3 of the Finals @ Boston.

I don't think Fisher really wants to go to Miami for a lot of reasons

1) He is spying for the Lakers to figure out what is going on there. You know, just like Wade, and probably LeBron and Bosh wasted everyone's time by having meetings with teams. They probably knew what they would do from the start. Wade especially, I am sure he was looking for information on behalf of Riley.

2) He probably wants the Lakers to cave in on his contract demands by threatening to go to Miami.

3) His family/daughter is situated in LA. He left Utah because he "liked the doctors" in La. Not that none of the other big cities in America have doctors for his daughter, but you know ...

4) This is similar to what Lamar Odom went through when he was a free agent (last summer?)

I hate that Fisher is saying really nice things about Kobe now. A guy you respect as a human saying nice things about a guy you hate ... almost forces you into a paradigm shift.

Or: Maybe Kobe has him totally buffaloed and hoodwinked!

Fisher Agrees To 3-Year Deal With Lakers

"I have decided to continue with Kobe, continue with our teammates and the fans of Los Angeles," Fisher said in a statement on his website. "While this may not be the most lucrative contract I've been offered this offseason, it is the most valuable. I am confident I will continue to lead this team on and off the court. Let the hunt for six begin."

The Lakers have won two straight titles and five in Fisher's tenure with the team. He gets a three-year deal to return, with a player option on the final year. The total value of the contract is more than $9 million, a source told ESPNLosAngeles.com.

The Lakers improved their offer a number of times during negotiations, with Fisher deciding to stay around noon PT on Monday, a source said.

The Lakers were waiting for the deal to be completed before announcing anything.

"Nothing is signed yet," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said. "We're in continuous dialogue with [Fisher's] representative and we hope to announce something soon."

Fisher, 35, had been courted by the Miami Heat. He met with Miami president Pat Riley and owner Micky Arison at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami on Saturday morning where the Heat told him it wanted him to be its starting point guard and to join LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

"I took time to consider all my options, many not reported in the media," Fisher said. "I listened to every coach, every general manager, even potential teammates in order to make the right decision and I thank every one of them. At the end of the day, there's one person I could not turn away from.

More on the Lakers

For more news and notes on the Lakers, check out the Land O' Lakers blog from the Kamenetzky brothers. Blog

"Kobe Bryant asked me to stay but supported whatever decision I made. He and I have played together for 11 seasons, came into the league together as kids, and has been loyal to me even when others had doubts. We have won five championships together."

The Lakers had been in constant contact with Fisher and his representative Rob Pelinka since the free-agent negotiating period opened on July 1, although negotiations had proceeded slowly but amicably.

Los Angeles lost free agent Jordan Farmar to New Jersey on Monday, but signed Steve Blake last week. Blake likely will share playing time with Fisher.

Fisher likely isn't bluffing about larger offers from other teams. The Lakers' payroll already is stretched to the limit of the salary cap with the rest of Los Angeles' veteran core signed to multiyear contracts, including Bryant, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Ron Artest and Lamar Odom.

But Fisher decided he valued winning and consistency over a late-career cash grab -- and the other time he left the Lakers for a big-money deal, he endured two miserable seasons in Golden State and one better year in Utah before returning to the Lakers in 2007.

Fisher first joined the Lakers in 1996, when Jerry West drafted the unsung guard from Arkansas-Little Rock and the franchise nurtured him into a consistent playmaker and occasional scorer. Since his return to Hollywood, he has started every regular-season game for the Lakers over the past three seasons.

Fisher averaged 7.5 points and 2.5 assists last year. Although he sometimes struggles against quicker point guards, Fisher still has the veteran guile and poise necessary to perform at important moments -- and that's the quality Bryant values most in his longtime teammate.

"We've got to have him back," Bryant said last month shortly after the Lakers' victory parade. "Fish knows we need him, and we know we've got to keep him."

Fisher raised his game in the postseason, starting all 23 games and averaging 10.3 points and 2.8 assists to help the Lakers win their second straight title. He was particularly effective in the Western Conference semifinals against Utah's Deron Williams, and he largely matched the efforts of veteran Steve Nash in the conference finals against the Phoenix Suns.

Fisher's return means the most significant parts of the Lakers' championship roster will return this fall. Kupchak now must hunt for bargains and unsung players to fill in the gaps on his bench, which wasn't particularly deep last season.

Miller
Haslem
Chalmers
Big Z
whoever that center is...Anthony something
three draft picks, I think

Dude, they already have a full roster, basically.

Yeah...I'm withdrawing all of the confidence I had a few days ago that they wouldn't compete.

I didn't expact them to be able to keep Haslem and I didn't think they'd get a center as serviceable at Z.

Dangit.

the question is whether Haslem can really be that guy that gets them the tough offensive boards inside against other team's centers. because Z prefers to stay out and shoot jumpers, and bosh isn't particularly tough...

Haslem has rebounded well in the past, but he did have some help inside with o'neal taking the other team's big out of the way.

But yeah, this is getting a little scary. Cause we all thought it would be those 3, some rookies, and some scrubs.

Hmm, would like to join you and be able to be optimistic about our chances against them or pessimistic about their chances against other top teams in the league, but their team looks better than I anticipated at this stage. Guys like Miller, Haslem and Chalmers can play, and Ilgauskas should be somewhat serviceable as well.

That said, potential and an abundance of superstars don't necessarily equal success. Real Madrid comes to mind...and maybe here it is, the reason to remain hopeful.

It was puzzling that everyone just kind of dismissed Riley like he was a dog chasing a car with no idea of what to do when it stopped and he caught it. While I'm not buying into the super-conspiracy theory, he's been working and planning on having the majority of payroll concentrated in a few players for a couple of years.

They've also been making sure Haslem didn't feel like a used rubber:

http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/201...a-championship

Miller was Haslem's roommate in college. Z and Lebron. Looks like the Heat is trying to minimize chemistry issues where they can.

From the espn article about Z:

"Veteran forward Juwan Howard, 37, is also finalizing a minimum-scale deal to join the Heat, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

"Juwan wants to get a ring and he has great respect for Coach [Pat] Riley," agent David Falk told the Sun-Sentinel. "We've talked to the Heat. There's a mutual interest. That's all I feel comfortable saying at this point."

pf: bosh, , juwon howard, jarvis varnado (R)
c: haslem, big z, dexter pittman (R)

pg: arroyo, jason williams, earl watson
sg: none that i heard
sf: mike miller
pf: joel anthony
c: jamaal magloire, shaq

I'm thinking they go more like this...

PG: Chalmers
SG: Wade
SF: LeBron
PF: Bosh
C: Big Z

After that they have the following...

PG:
SG: (Miller)
SF: Miller (if signed, can play SG too), Butler, Williams
PF: Haslem, Howard (if signed), Varnado
C: Pittman

I would say that if they accomplished this so far that they are pretty much set. All they need is a veteran PG presence at a low price. Other than that, it looks like a good roster to me...

Latavious Williams was drafted by the Heat, but then traded to Oklahoma City. He will not be a Heat. The other three (Butler, Pittman, Varnado) all are with Miami waiting to be signed.

And this is yet another reason to hate them. That sentence just sounds so dumb. not cause of what you wrote, but their team name.
