Default Top Rank Boxing or Cowboys Camp?

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Antonio Bryant reportedly had an altercation with coach Bill Parcells during practice Tuesday and was ejected by club security.

Witnesses who spoke on condition of anonymity told the The Dallas Morning News and Fort Worth Star-Telegram for Wednesday's editions that the confrontation began when Bryant complained about his role as the team's third receiver and the number of repetitions he was getting during a drill.

Bryant got into separate arguments with receivers coach Todd Haley and Keyshawn Johnson. When Parcells told Bryant to stop, the third-year player took off his pads and jersey, slammed them to the ground and began to leave the practice field.

Sources told the Star-Telegram that Parcells picked up the jersey and threw it back at Bryant, who then threw it in the face of the approaching coach.

Bryant was then escorted out of practice by security personnel

Bryant's agent, Lamont Smith, said he was aware of the incident and "it's being worked out internally with the team."

But the confrontation has clouded the player's future with the team, one day after the conclusion of the team's three-day minicamp and was part of a series of on-field activities Parcells is conducting until the end of the week.

The Cowboys were scheduled to report to training camp July 30 in Oxnard, Calif.

Although Bryant has often complained about his role in Dallas and had other practice-field and sideline blowups, he was expected to be a key member of the Cowboys' receiving corps.

Taken in the second round of the 2002 draft, Bryant earned all-rookie honors in 2002 after catching 44 passes for 733 yards and six touchdowns. Bryant caught 39 passes for 550 yards and two touchdowns last year as the third receiver behind Joey Galloway and Terry Glenn.

This year, Bryant was set to be the third receiver behind Glenn and Johnson, who was acquired from Tampa Bay in a trade for Galloway.

I say don't cut him, don't trade him. Force him to sit on the sidelines (or at home) and watch all season.

What this guy wants more than anything is to play football. Shipping him off to another team would give him exactly what he wants. You don't reward this type of behavior. You punish it.

As a Buccaneer fan...it sure is nice to see Meshawn having a positive impact on another team.

Don't cut him, don't bench him. Play him. See if he has the fire on the field that he is showing off it. If so, then you have a diamond in the rough, if not, then you cut him. I once remember the other guy involved (Keyshawn) going so far as "Just throw me the damn ball."

Massive emotion about playing time, etc is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as egos can be resolved. If Michael Irvin would have been put as a third receiver, he would probably been fighting with the coaches as well, IMO.

You know, I'd be much more willing to play Bryant if he didn't have the worst hands on the team last year. I've never seen so many flubbed passes. Bryant made Terry Glenn look like he had crazy glue on his hands.

Unless he's showing a return to pre-2003 form, I'd say he's damn lucky to even be the third receiver.

I'm now starting to see why Bryant fell so far down in the draft. I don't cut him though. With all this fire he should be a pro bowler in years to come but I wonder what does Parcells do. He has to do some sort of punishing. I thought this was why Derek Ross was gone. I can say now that the first mistake made was Parcells throwing the jersey in Bryant's face. I already know Bryant's type. He's the type that doesn't want to be embarassed in front of his fellow teammates.

Bryant was a former Biletnikoff (sp?) award winner, so the pro bowl potential is definitely there. That said, he looked like ass last year.

I look at results. Bryant has yet to show any of note. Certainly that dictates pro bowl merit more than a college award. I've been one in the apst who liked Bryants potential. I'll not knock him on that front, but praising him as a pro bowler type without any results in his bag is premature at best.

I read that the kid wasn't in practice today, but it was unknown whether he didn't show on his own or whether he was told not to come. Either way, it doesn't look good for him. Man, how stupid can you be?

I kinda doubt they would cut him now, though. Better to put him through hell in training camp. Of course, he may realize this and force an early move so that he has a better chance of catching on with another team.

If he doesn't pan out...what a waste of a second-round draft pick. We never even got anything special out of him.

Glenn really needs to be the slot receiver, not the #2 guy. I wonder if Zuriel Smith has a shot of winning a starting spot?

Zuriel Smith would be a pretty good receiver if someone could inject some confidence into him.

Think a trade is in the mix? Bryant is talented and other teams have to know that. I'd expect someone to take a flier on him >IF< he is being shopped.

Wasn't Derek Ross apart of that draft also? That draft looked to be one of our better draft in recent years but it's slowly starting to look like one of our worst. You had Bryant who we figured could be a star in this league and you have Gurode who had a solid rookie season seemed to decline with Bill coming to town. You had Derek Ross who had 5 interceptions his rookie season kick hisself off of the team. I believe Randall Williams was apart of that draft and he seems to be a solid special teams player. I wonder how's the progression of Randall Williams. Fast as hell and isn't a small reciever like we had in Joey Galloway. The 2nd pick doesn't look like the only pick we wasted in that draft year.
