Default Mavs Deny Blockbuster Trade with Blazers

MAVERICKS NOTES
Cuban says trade report is not true
By Art Garcia
Star-Telegram Staff Writer

Box Scores, Western Conference, Eastern Conference

SAN ANTONIO - Mavericks owner Mark Cuban laughed and said reports Saturday night of a blockbuster trade with Portland were untrue.

Broadcast reports had the Mavericks and Trail Blazers agreeing on a trade that would send Antawn Jamison and Michael Finley to Portland for Rasheed Wallace and Bonzi Wells.

"There is no trade," Cuban said. "None. It's ridiculous. We want this team to stay together and play together. It's not about getting anyone else or swapping. We have great, great, great guys on this team. There is no reason to make a trade."

The Mavs have made two blockbuster trades since the end of last season, with Jamison and Antoine Walker being the primary additions. Cuban said the franchise is prepared to stand pat with its current team.

will they still be laughing off this idea at midseason?...

I'll go ahead and say I think that Walker should be the one to go, not Jamison. I think AJ really fits the mold here and Walker is just taking Dirk's attempts....

That's right, I'm with you. If you could trade Walker and Finley for Wallace and Wells, it's a no-brainer. But for chemistry reasons, you can't bring in questionable reps like Walker, Delk, Wallace, Fortson, and Wells and send out Van Exel, Finley, and Jamison.

But if we had Nash/Wells/Jamison/Nowitzki/Wallace starting each game...you'd have to do that deal...no questions. We need bigs with talent, Wallace is our best option.
