Default Kobe Bryant announces this is his final season

Kobe Bryant announces this is his final season
http://nba.nbcsports.com/2015/11/29/...f:nbcnews:text

By Kurt HelinNov 29, 2015, 7:19 PM EST

It has seemed like this was it for a while. Kobe Bryant has been frustrated; he hasn’t been able to produce like he expects — his play has been hard to watch — and the Lakers are a train wreck.

Kobe made it official Sunday via the Players’ Tribune — this is his final season. He did it via a letter called “Dear Basketball.”

You gave a six-year-old boy his Laker dream
And I’ll always love you for it.
But I can’t love you obsessively for much longer.
This season is all I have left to give.
My heart can take the pounding
My mind can handle the grind
But my body knows it’s time to say goodbye.

And that’s OK.
I’m ready to let you go.
I want you to know now
So we both can savor every moment we have left together.
The good and the bad.
We have given each other
All that we have.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver quickly released this statement:

“With 17 NBA All-Star selections, an NBA MVP, five NBA championships with the Lakers, two Olympic gold medals and a relentless work ethic, Kobe Bryant is one of the greatest players in the history of our game. Whether competing in the Finals or hoisting jump shots after midnight in an empty gym, Kobe has an unconditional love for the game.

“I join Kobe’s millions of fans around the world in congratulating him on an outstanding NBA career and thank him for so many thrilling memories.”

Kobe will go down as one of the game’s all-time greats. Few can come close to his resume: Five NBA titles, two NBA Finals MVPs, 15 time All-NBA teams, one MVP, 17 times an All-Star (and the All-Star Game MVP four times). And we could go on and on.

Good on Kobe for doing this now. After 55,000 NBA minutes his body has quit on him, and where his mind is still willing the flesh is clearly weak right now. He has not been able to adapt his game to the changing realities of what he can do.

Kobe has said he doesn’t want a “Derek Jeter Farewell Tour” but that will be the feel from here on out. Expect some special recognition at the All-Star Game in Toronto.

...about 4 seasons too late.

He should have retired after 11-12

Nice to read and hear the players' opinions of Kobe. Remarkable career.
Always liked that he had a great admiration for Dirk.

And the winner, world champion and still undefeated, FATHER TIME!

Kobe: Great player. Not a nice guy, but great player.

All-Time Fantasy Matchup would be Peak Kobe v. Peak Jordan. I'd go with Peak Jordan though.

Actually I think Kobe pretty much admitted that Lakers suck way too much right now for him to be interested in playing. Dirk and Duncan are still defeating ol' father time.

Kobe is a SG and has to relay more on his athletic abilities than Dirk.

Thats why Guards usually decline faster than Big Man.

Dirk never made a living because of his athleticism, thats why his decline goes smoother...same thing could be said about Timmy D (who gets his minutes managed great by Pop).

The 30% this year though is just horrible. I dont know why he is still settling for so many 3s. He was never a great shooter to begin with.

The second Bryant signed the giant extension with the words "Im Kobe Bryant, im not taking a discount" EVERYBODY knew the Lakers are going to suck the next years because of this.

I honestly had less against Kobe and more against Kobe/Lakers fans. Those people made you hate every single little thing about that team. Definitely the worst during the Pau Gasol years. Nice to see them in the dumps just so we don't have to hear from the fans.

Quite sure most of them have jumped to Clippers - hence the recent downfall of LAC.

Crazy Stat of Day: Kobe Bryant has missed more shots (13,919) than John Stockton took in his career.

Kobe gets huge sent off in Philly and helps them with their first win.

He went 3/4 from Three in the first Minutes than finished the Night shooting

7/26 and 4/17 from 3.

You heard that right. He took 26 Shots while 17 of them were Threes

What a punch in the face of his teammates.

He will completely ruin his Career FG% in one season.

Overheard on sports radio this morning:
Last night Kobe shot 4/17 from 3...and as a result improved his 3 point percentage for the season. Of course, I don't want to poke too much fun of him for jacking up 3s and missing them. That would hit a little too close to home right now. Barea, Harris, Matthews, Villanueva are all in the Kobe club so far this season.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on why. I don't even see him in the top 10. He's a player like Scotty Pippen-- fantastic, but as underrated as Pippen is, Kobe is that overrated.

Current players who could be better
LeBron I'd already put over him.
Curry can earn his spot with another year or two of what he's been doing.
Durant could be the same

Then there are all the past players
Jordan
Wilt
Olajuwon
Russell

Possibly better past players
Shaq
Abdul-Jabar
Magic
Bird
Robertson

This Kobe farewell tour shit has got to stop. Standing around with his hands in the air getting standing ovations on every road game as they get pummeled and he shoots like garbage.

I remember Dr. J's farewell tour -
He has stated the Mavs gift was one of the best. Mavs made a huge donation on his behalf to the Lupus foundation as Dr. J's brother suffered from that. I know we also gave him something else but I can't seem to remember what else it was and googling it was no help - anyone else here remember it??

You may not appreciate him, but he's obviously "getting standing ovations" because others are grateful for having seen not only his game, but also his work ethic, willpower, and dedication.

I don't understand anyone's disdain for the man. It's the players who make this league.

Had he played in a small market and not announced his retirement at the beginning of the season, he would be getting no standing ovations. He is a diva who lives for the attention, very different from team players who stay out of the limelight but help their teams win, like Duncan and Dirk. It's very easy to understand the hostility toward Kobe, despite how great a basketball player he was.

Kobe's dramaqueen behavior really rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it's just Dirk's humble way of fading out without a lot of fanfare.

Except that Dirk isn't fading. His team is decent, and he is a prime contributor. All Kobe is doing is holding his team back so he can shoot 4-25 every night.

Youre giving Kobe too much credit. Five points last night as they made a big deal about the anniversary of his 81 pt game.
