Walker must go

Right now with the Mavs team struggling mightly, I think we have to make a change. Although I would love to see a coaching change, I don't think that will happen until the end of the year as long as we're over .500 and in playoff contention, and I seriously hope that we don't fall out of playoff contention or under .500. So the next best thing is to trade Walker which probably needs to happen anyways. Walker appears to be a bad fit for this team. He seems to bog down the offense, and things only go well when he's hitting his 3pt shot, which is very seldom at shooting under 30%. At this point I'd be happy just to have him gone. Here we've mentioned several trades for him, here are some that I like:

I like what we'd be getting in a number of those deals. Count me in on the Utah and Milwaukee trades for sure. Centers who can help us and a SF who can hit a jumper in both cases. That's exactly what we need.

OP I think that would be the only way the Utah does the trade. We have to take a player that's out to next season. Since I don't see us doing anything this year for me its not that big of a deal.

I love the Denver trade. We get a backup point that pushes the ball and takes care of it and a big man who can rebound, block shots, and has enough offensive skill to make Nellie play him.

To me Al Harrington is a beast defensively and offensively. Scott Pollard is a great role player, who can clean the glass.

I tend to agree about trading Walker for role-players. Walker is a great talent, but I'm beginning to become convinced that he is a poor fit here. He's taking too many shots from the more efficient shooters on the team, and although he is a good ball-handler, he's not as good as Nash and the offense suffers when he is directing it.

One more trade you might want to consider (although it's been brought up many times before) is to Atlanta for Ratliff, Dickau, and filler. Ratliff is at least a servicable center and a great shot-blocker. Walker has what Atlanta wants most: an expiring contract.

The thing that worries me is that Cuban seems incapable of making a trade that is not a blockbuster. When you look at the recent championship teams- the Lakers and Spurs- they put their teams together by judicious trades and free-agent signing in which they often gave up more talented players to get better chemistry and better role-players. The Lakers in particular, under Jerry West, gave up all-star caliber players in Van Exel and Eddie Jones for very little compensation in order to streamline the roster and assure that the ball was in the hands of their best players. I don't know if Cuban can make a trade that makes him look like he lost out on talent.

That doesn't prevent him from being traded, we would just have to put him on the IR this year. If he wasn't hurt, I don't think we would have much of a chance of Utah doing the trade.
