Germany - Angola - double overtime
Dirk just hit the game tying three to tie the game at 83-83 at the end of the 1st OT.
This shouldn't be that close, 2 turnovers again to start the 2nd OT...

Now Dirk to the line. 5sec left.

Unbelievable game. Like I said, no walk in the park.
Hopefully that is the turning point for Dirk and the team. Go Germany, Go Dirk!

Wow, clutchness by Dirk. Great game for him. Anybody have clips or a vid of this game?

whenever his team needed him dirk provided some clutch shots. He scored on virtually every single important possesion. Dirk had a monster game...bring it on. the rest of the german team needs to step up. Most supporting cast players got more fouls than points...today dirk was enough. Great game...

FIBA site is almost down - just great! Statement on the Homepage:
"thank you for your tremendous interest in the FIBA World Championship. The traffic on the website has exceeded by hundred times the interest of comparable events such as the Olympic Basketball Tournaments in Athens."
Seems that worldwide interest in basketball is ever increasing, nice to hear that which hopefully means even better media coverage for future events.
Dirk's Overall Stats: 47pts, 16reb, 4Ast,4F, 17/17 freethrows
some clutch moments:
33pts came after 3:31 in the fourth, that makes for 22 clutch minutes.
some excerpts from the play-by-play:
4th:
1:50 left: Angola leadsby 3, huge block by Dirk
...
0:50 left: 2FT
...
0:26 left: Demirel ties with a 3pointer
1st OT:
1:27 left: Dirk 2pts in the paint
...
00:08 No.7 Garrett, Robert (GER) missed the 3 point field goal attempt
00:06 GER - Team offensive rebound
00:01 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) hit the 3 point shot
00:00 END of period
2nd OT:
...
00:42 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) made two points inside the paint
...
00:05 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) made a freethrow
00:05 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) made 2nd freethrow
00:00 END of period
3rd OT:
...
03:53 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) hit the 3 point shot (Ass No. 5)
03:37 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) got the defensive rebound
...
02:52 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) received a foul
02:52 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) made a freethrow
02:52 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) made 2nd freethrow
02:52 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) made 3rd freethrow
...
00:39 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) hit the 3 point shot (Ass No. 6)
00:24 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) got the defensive rebound
00:22 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) received a foul
00:22 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) made a freethrow
00:22 No.14 Nowitzki, Dirk (GER) made 2nd freethrow
...
00:00 END of game
Germany 108 : 103 Angola
Wow, what a thriller!
Germany should have put the game away for good as early as the 2nd quarter. They had a lead of 10pts at least twice but couldn't hold on. Instead they kept Angola in the game, and the Angola players got more and more confident towards the end. Angola took the lead midway through the 4th and extended the lead to as much as 6pts.
That almost cost them the game, in the end it was a real dogfight.

Amazing stats... but not that surprising, the guy can beat a whole team by himself despite the crap hes surrounded with. So i'm excited that hes coming back to Dallas with a lot better than just crap!

You have to admit though, we got incredibly lucky at the end of OT 1. First it was a German (Schulze) who touched the ball last before it went out-of-bounds. The refs called it the other way which gave Germany a second chance to tie the game with 6 seconds left. Then, when Dirk took the game-tying 3, he was clearly standing on the 3-pt line but the ref behind him didn't see it. Still, a tough, tough shot with the defender all over him.

I may be wrong, but in looking at the bracket, it looks like Germany is headed to a matchup with the US in the Quarters.
Jeez, that would create so much inner conflict for me.

would have been alot more clever to lose that game and gamble on the next round
we have to face nigaria now, and most likely usa in the quarters
would have taken france instead in the next round and avoid the US in the quarters

From another international forum without doublechecking:
Quote:
One finalist will come from these 8 teams (in case of two teams, the more likely option is in bold) :
(A1 Argentina vs. B4 New Zealand)
vs.
(C2 Turkey/Greece vs. D3 Slovenia)
(B1 Spain vs. A4 Serbia)
vs.
(D2 Italy vs. C3 Lithuania)
Another finalist will come from the following 8 teams:
(C1 Greece/Turkey vs. D4 China)
vs.
(A2 France (?) vs. B3 Angola)
(D1 USA vs. C4 Australia)
vs.
(B2 Germany vs. A3 Nigeria)

I would like to see the face of the guy guarding him (#10? Gomes?) after that shot fell... it must have been priceless. Can you imagine? You're up in this guy's face, he's falling backward, the game is almost won... bam. PWND.
Poor guy.
