Yes, that's the question! Would the Milwaukee Bucks perhaps be todays champion if they would have given up Dirk in 1998?
I think so! Look at heir possible Team:

Center- Ervin Johnson
PF- Dirk Nowitzki
SF- Glenn Robinson/Tim Thomas
SG- Ray Allen
PG- Sam Cassell

Wow! They should trade Glenn robinson for some PF, to close Ervin Johnson's hole!!!

Look good on the paper!! Let's see, Kiki Vandeweghe is not Bucks' director of player development. Or, Bucks does not have coach team. Cassell is no buddy to Dirk and so snd so... Do not take Dirk's development for granted. He could be the other Matt Bullard if he stayed at Bucks. Thanks Mavericks.

I think that's a stellar line-up ... I like E. Johnson, R. Allen ... Of course Dirk !!!
still the Bucks need lots of Defense ...

I know some people say Dirk is fragile ...
I hate to admit that, YES, he's SOFT ...
but Dirk is another Matt Bullard ? I think that's too harsh ...
Thanks Mavericks ? I guess the Mavs and YOU should thank Dirk FIRST !!!
Without Dirk, there's NO future, ANOTHER devastating decade !!!

I don't see you can use SOFT on Dirk anymore. Anyway, Dirk is lucky to be a Mavericks and Mavericks is lucky to develop Dirk too.

I don't see that being a championship team because there was still he mental lapses with that team. Also, there would NOT be enough shots to go around. That would mean Glen, Ray or Sam would have to reduce their shots so Dirk could truly be effective. Sorry it wouldn't happen!!!!! They use their power forwards as their rebounder and energy person. Which Dirk could do, but he's much more effective with the ball in his hands and he wouldn't get enough touches. That team would be in turmoil...

I think Dirk put to rest any reputation of soft this past season, especially in the Utah series. Malone is the dirties player in the league.

That lineup wouldn't happen. The bucks would trade glenn robinson. He would basically just take away shots from dirk, and not be able to take the ball to the basket. They would try to trade robinson from for a beefy power forward(dale davis) or some one like that. Now a team with ray allen, dirk, cassell, and davis could certainly contend for the title. As far as george karl not being a good coach, I disagree. He was very successful as the sonics coach and now has taken a bad bucks team, and taken them within 1 game of the nba finals. George Karl has done a very good job with the bucks. Sure he acts like a moron at the press conferences and needs to calm down. But he has done wonders for that franchise.

Championship??
Who plays Shaq?
Johnson??
You need to have at least one real banger in the playoffs, who must get significant playing time (exactely what the Mavs do lack too, and I hoped they would be able to get in A. Davis, too bad it couldnĀ“t happen).
Would be a great show, even win alot of games in the regular season.
But champions?
No way.

Other fans still think Dirk is soft.
Don't you guys think he's still SOFT on D ?
He must play TOUGH on Defense and show he can guard other PFs like KG, CWebb ...

PeterVesceyisdumb, George Karl is one of my fav ...
If it hadn't been for your info, I might have underrated Nellie,
Thanks, and your post(Don Nelson is a Hall of Fame Coach) was great!!!

I think he can improve on defense, but I wouldn't classify him as a soft player.

TheKid, I thought you're always underrating Dirk ...
I said Dirk is soft, but I can't say that's my true feeling ...

Dirk is absolutely no soft player, his defense isn't hard yet, but he still has some time to improve.

I don't know why you think I underrate him, I think the guy is great. I just said he's not my favorite player on the Mavericks. Just because he's not my favorite player, doesn't mean I don't recognize the guys greatness.
