Default Mavs involved in talks with Boston regarding Rondo?

How's this for a rumour?
RUMOR: Boston and Dallas are now in talks of a deal involving Rajon Rondo, Shawn Marion, Chris Kaman, & 1 or 2 1st rd picks. (NOT CONFIRMED)
NBA Central NBA Central ‏@TheNBACentral

THE MAVERICKS DREAM TEAM:

PG Rajon Rondo
SG Tony Allen
SF Andre Iguodala
PF Dirk Nowitzki
C Dwight Howard

Now before you say it's impossible, read below as to how it isn't.

1. Sign Howard to max contract
2. Exercise Marion's early termination option
3. Sign Andre Iguodala (hopefully for 5yrs/$50mil)
4. Sign Tony Allen (unless Memphis pushes hard, maybe $4 mil a year)
5. Sign-and-Trade Marion with a package of Larkin, future picks, and maybe Carter for Rajon Rondo (Rondo could be surprisingly cheap since the Celtics have no choice but to rebuild)
6. Fill out the rest of the roster with whoever you can find cheap.

Reading steps 1-5 sounds impossible but it really isn't. Without Matrix on the books, the Mavs can fit everyone but Rondo on the roster and stay under the cap. Then if they traded for him, it would just put Dallas into the luxury tax zone, which Cuban said he would be willing to pay to compete again.

This gives you a starting five that includes 4 NBA All-Defensive players. Defense wins championships. Saying this is a long shot is an understatement, but hey, one can dream

Was just about to post that...

Rondo due to make $12m next year, not sure how we'd swing both him and D12 though.

Of course this will happen.

Iguodala, Howard and Rondo all coming to the Mavs.

cba with that nosense and unrealistic dreams.

Rumors say Mavs will sign Devin Harris cause no good player is coming to the Mavs like usual. He is btw at Dirks Baseball Game tomorrow

We'd have to trade for Rondo long before Dwight makes his decision on July 10, but I like where your head is at... If we can grab Dwight/Rondo this year, then we can add Iggy/Allen types next year.

Actually, the rumors state that Devin Harris is interested in Dallas - they never said anything about that interest being mutual.

Harris is still trying to decide whether to re-sign w/ ATL or become a free agent.
And you seem to have missed the point of the thread, which is that Rondo could be in play for Marion/Kaman/picks... Just because Aggie E flourished his post with some wishful thinking doesn't mean the rumor is irrelevant.

Um, that's not even close to possible. Falls apart at step 3 (not to mention steps 1 and 2 are in the wrong order, not that that really matters in this case).

Rondo would be long term for sure. Enough of the teasing! I even think Iggy wouldn't mind less money playing alongside Dirk and Dwight too.

Dumb to think that Rondo is going to be traded. Dumber still to think that Dallas has the youth-talent to get him from the celtics. Dumber still to think that dallas would risk losing their chance at dwight howard - who would cost nothing except money.

That plan falls apart at step 1, because we don't have the cap space to sign Dwight to a max deal before Marion opts out.

You can get that cap space just trading VC and not taking salary back in return. I'm not fueling this probably false rumor, but I just thought I'd clarify that there are other ways of going about singing Howard that doesn't involve Marion.

I know that but the way it's presented, we'd be keeping Vince, possibly to trade him later on... doesn't matter because there's zero chance that who thing could ever happen.

1) Garnett and Pierce were both traded for beans-- not even young talent. Just crappy late-first rounders and guys over 30 and none of them were more than role players with expiring contracts. Kaman on an SnT and Marion would both be expiring deals.
2) You really think WE are the dumb ones for thinking that Rondo will be traded after ever other piece of the championship team is traded away around him?

I think you are the dumb one if you think that Rondo isn't being shopped for a full rebuild.

I'm still not buying taking back Crash's contract as fair. I mean, Boston went from a solid playoff team to crap over night. I sincerely doubt that Celtics fans think what just happend to their team is fair.

And I also found this rumor somewhat interesting...

Rich Levine: One thing that's clear is Danny wasn't going to stop until he found a new home for KG/Pierce. Heard Dallas was next target if BK fell thru Twitter @rich_levine

If I had a list of 10 players in order that would be terrific for the Mavericks, Rondo would be very near the top of the list.

The point was to get bad in 2014 to get a potential franchise changer in a great draft rather than drag in as a 7-8 seed which is smart

Dwight/Dirk/Rondo would be a very complimentary trio.

FWIW, I think Boston's gonna be getting some pretty high picks from this in 2016, 2017, and 2018. I can't see that Brooklyn team contending more than 2 years from now.

Imagining Rondo with Dallas going against guys like Parker, Westbrook, and Chris Paul already has me amped.

Seriously. Attitude aside (which is why I think Carlisle will really shine), Rondo and Dwight would make for a spectacularly good defensive team and a team that could really move the ball around.

Plus Dirk/Rajon would be a much nicer pitch to Dwight than just Dirk

This is one of the worst first posts i have ever seen.

Just looking at the team makes you wonder about spacing.
Other than that, stop posting.

Also, this is completely unsubstantiated. Totally baseless rumor.

Yep... But this afternoon has been pretty slow, so at least it's something to talk about.

So I did some digging and Marc Stein did say on the Radio that he heard rumblings that the Celtics were trying to move Rondo quickly. It was on Mike and Mike and here is the link. Tuen in just before the 6 minute mark about Rondo...

Rondo-Dirk-Dwight would be the anti-Heat. Three superstars with totally different skillsets as opposed to three super-athletic wing players. Would be very interesting to see how it plays out.

Sorry to break it to you but bosh is not a wing or anyway similar to Lebron/wade

Right, two wing players and a long-armed T-Rex, whatever...

The point remains that Dwight/Dirk/Rondo would be about as complimentary as you can get, skill-wise.

My favourite PG right now, i hope he would come. After one year of Mike James, Fisher, Collison i think we deserve Rondo.

Ye the Celtics and Rondo will see it as well. Poor Mavs had to play bunch of scrubs last year lets just send them a young point guard who gets a triple double in a ton of games and is still young for some picks and Marion and Kaman.

But i really love that reflection on James, Fisher and those scrubs. I think we deserve Paul or Rondo aswell for being forced to watch that shit for a full season :P

I tell you what is going to happen

Paul is not coming to Dallas
Howard is not coming to Dallas
and Rondo is not coming to Dallas
