Banks isn't some horrendous abortion of an NBA player, to be sure, but Wright is better. Wright even contributed minimally with a few nice 3's against the Spurs in the 'offs.

What's being said though makes sense if you believe the potential ideas:

-Apparently the brass thinks Barea is better suited as a SG, Banks can fill in as the PG then (if the guy can stay healthy)

-Ross is relatively decent insurance as a Wright-like guy, so it makes him more expendable.

-Also, we might have had some hard luck trying to find a 3rd team to help play ball...we probably would've rather had Humphries (I would have at least), but BC in Toronto said, it's Banks or you better keep looking for a 3rd team.

True...I just feel better that it seems like this is done, we just need to get it wrapped up. It'd be tough to see a deal close to being finalized and having it die off....ask Portland how they feel about Hedo now.

Although, I wouldn't hurt as much if Plan B ended up kicking the crap out of this deal.

Well, maybe we have our guy to annoy Parker and Paul for some minutes until Boobie is ready. And u never know, maybe Kidd can fix him a little bit

Marion/Josh/Singleton
Dirk/Marion
Damp/Gortat

+Barnes/Quis/Diogu etc...

If true, that puts Marion's starting salary at no more than about $7.3MM. That seems about right--a bit above MLE, but not crazy money given that MLE is really his only other option.

Banks is an expensive 2nd/3rd string PG for us.

This does thin out the SG spot a bit for us. Hope that doesn't come back to haunt us. Don't think it will, Wright was/is expendable, and evidently we like Barea at SG anyway.

Isn't Josh Howard supposed to be our SG with Marion on the team?

I haven't watched Banks play in years but he was a defensive demon his first couple of years.

Looks like his shooting went in the toilet last year. Not just from the field but from the line too. Strange.

If this report is accurate we'll be his 7th team in 7 years. And that doesn't even include Memphis who drafted him and traded him to Boston.

I'd been looking at his defensive stats since word of the Marion pursuit broke. His second year in the league, in particular, he looked outstanding. Not so much since then. Hard to get a read on him. If he could be that guy that he was back in Boston that'd be great, because the Mavs could use a backup point with decent size and a solid defensive game given that they're probably going to have a couple point-guard sized guys getting minutes at backup SG.

Those are some horrid shooting numbers, although in his defense, he had a grand total of 57 fgas last year (19 from three), and 18 ftas, so the percentages aren't too damning.

I'm guessing the FO's Plan is to have Ross make up for Wright. If he can defend as good, if not better than Wright, and shoot better I don't mind.

In that trade we'd have space for barnes or marquis, if we wanted.

I'd really like to know Matrix's salary terms.

I will trust a healthy Josh and coach ric to figure out if he can play the 2.

Matrix will help a ton on off the ball defending when dirks getting challenged.

I think Josh will cover the SG a lot more than he did last season, which is how I can see the front office making Wright expendable. It's a shame to have to give him up on this one but we're still getting the clearcut better players talent wise. I think our backcourt will be fine even if Banks doesn't pan out well for us and the SG spot becomes too thin, considering we have a combo guard who happens to be the reigning sixth man of the year on the bench.

And lets never forget the significance of Marion's REP as a top tier defender...I'll take a guy who has a great rep on defense over an unproven player who is a stud.

What do we do with Banks if Roddy absolutely shows out at Summer League? Although, if that's the case Banks could just hit the bench. That is an expensive bench warmer though. No matter what happens though you have to love the depth we are getting!

As for Banks, if he's the guy...if the contract is what I've seen, it's not terrible by any means. The only part I wouldn't like is we've got a potentially awkward logjam at the PG spot that could trickle over to the SG position.

Who would've thought THAT would happen?

I've seen two different people use cbs as a source and they had two different things. One was the Banks one, another was Humphries like grndmstr_c mentioned.

BG, where'd you see that purported scoop? Poking around on realgm and db.com and there's a poster there's who claimed a cbs source for a Marion/Humphries package, though he didn't give any other details. It all seems kinda sketchy.

BTW...that would be a better idea that what would come from Banks I think, it makes more depth-chart sense at least.
