Fresh start excites Jamison
Newest Wizard happy his days of coming off the bench are over

By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News

Antawn Jamison is always looking on the bright side, and it was no different when he found out he was getting traded to the Washington Wizards.

He knows it's a move that will preclude him from defending his Sixth Man award.

"I don't have a problem with that – at all," he said Thursday evening after the trade became official. "I wasn't planning on defending it, anyway."

The one-year experiment of coming off the bench ended for Jamison when the Mavericks acquired fifth overall draft pick Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse and Christian Laettner. Jamison will be a spotlight player for the Wizards, a full-time starter on their front line.

But he knows the move comes with no guarantee of a return to the playoffs next season, either.

"It's life, man," Jamison said. "I learned from guys like Michael Finley how to handle this business like a professional. It was a great experience in Dallas. It's been a phenomenal year for me that I won't forget."

Jamison was the ultimate pro when he was traded from Golden State last August and agreed to step into the Mavericks' sixth-man role. He was a consistent spark and was rewarded with the league's Sixth Man award.

Now, he's going to be reunited with point guard Gilbert Arenas, with whom he played in Golden State.

"They're trying to turn things around, and I think their backcourt is stacked," Jamison said. "With myself and Kwame [Brown], hopefully, I can come in and help be a part of something."

Dallas said Thursday it expects to plug in newcomer Jerry Stackhouse into the sixth-man role.

"We asked him that in our first conversation," president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said. "And he was excited about the possibility. We feel that will be a good asset."

The Washington Wizards team looks like the GSW a couple of years ago. Larry Hughes, Arenas and Jamison.

I feel kinda sorry for the guy. He never asked to be traded from Golden State, but was committed to helping the team play better. He didn't deserve to be traded from Dallas because he was not the problem.

Washington got a great player and a phenomenal character. I wish Jamison all the best in the future and thank him for his wonderful contributions to this organization.

It's all just spin, he's just putting his best face forward. Starting or not, the Wiz are the dregs of the NBA.

Cuban indicated in a radio interview that AJ came in and said he didn't want to come off the bench anymore. At that point, he was told that the mavs would seek a trade for him.

Well....A man could only take so much. I applaud him for dealing with the situation he was put in.

But that said, this goes to show that EVERY NBA Player desires to Start and Jamison proves to be no different than Walker in that respect.

See ya, Golden boy. Don't forget to write....
