"Mavericks close to re-signing Finley 07/16/2001 By Marc Stein / The Dallas Morning News From both camps came the same hints Sunday: The Mavericks are close to the expected re-signing of All-Star swingman Michael Finley. "Don't you worry about Finley," Mavericks coach-general manager Don Nelson said. "I think it's just a matter of him coming in and signing [the contract]. I think they've pretty well agreed to a deal." Michael Finley Added Henry Thomas, Finley's Chicago-based agent: "Nothing's done quite yet. Look for something on [Wednesday] or around [Wednesday] with regard to Michael." Wednesday is the first day NBA teams can make official signings and trades after a 17-day moratorium. The freeze takes hold to allow for the league-wide audit required to establish a new salary-cap ceiling. The projected cap figure for the 2001-02 campaign is $42.7 million, up from $35.5 million, meaning Finley would receive an estimated $102 million over the next seven seasons should he accept the Mavericks' maximum offer. The riskier option for Finley is signing a one-year deal at just under $11 million, enabling him to receive a seven-year pact worth more than $120 million next summer. "It's done whenever he wants," Nelson said from Maui, reiterating that the Mavericks have extended all options to Finley. "[But] I don't think he'll do a short-term contract." Said owner Mark Cuban, asked if Mavericks fans should be worried that Finley's deal isn't done yet: "Not even a tiny bit." Link |

Im just so happy to see that it'll become official on Wednesday...I was starting to panic a bit when we hadn't heard any thing from either camp, even though we all knew it was all but a done deal. There's just something nice about seeing it in writing.

I'm very glad to see that finley is probably going to re-sign. Finley is definitely worth the max. This team is going to contend for the nba title for many years. It's a good time to be a mavs fan. Anyway, i just found this board. It's by far the best mavs board I have seen. So anyway, hello to everyone.
