Plus, Utah's young center Curtis B just broke his wrist tonight. I believe Utah still has a lot of money next offseason. Who knows if they can get a free agent there, but I doubt they wan't to lose cap room right now as well as that team is playing.

To get some return for Ostertag who they'll likely lose in FA. To get a scoring prescence in the half court game. To get an all-star level talent.

This is why they would do it. Of course there are reasons as well why they wouldn't do it. But you never know. Dangle a draft choice or two and throw in a few million of Cubes dollars and who knows.

I would do that in a second. Don't know if the Jazz would, but that's one of the best trade proposals I've seen. Totally caught me off guard in a good way.

no thank you in the sense that harpring's career will be ruined like jamison's has this year

nellie will hardly play him...mavs just need to sign ostertag during FA and we'll be fine

Unlike Jamison, Harpring is a very good defender. He doesn't have to be the man scoring to contribute.

Ostertag in FA is very possible but no sure thing (remember Karl Malone?). Harpring is one of the most underrated players in the NBA. He's also a very good player on both sides of the ball. And he can shoot. And even if we get Tag in FA, we'd get him several months sooner and be that much more ready to make a huge push next year. We could use our MLE to go after a rugged PF or a decent backup to Nash which we definitely don't have. Plus getting rid of Delk takes away Nellie's most favorite small ball option.

We get no superstars, nor do we get any superstars in waiting. But we get two glue guys who can play some on both sides of the ball and can help close the gates to the layup drills we've been giving up.

didn't karl malone say in a post game interview that he was keen on signing with the mavs but the mavs told him he'd be a problem in the locker room?

You really can't believe anything Malone says now. But before FA Malone gave strong indications that he'd love to come to Dallas. But when the FA deadline came and Mark Cuban was camped on Alonzo Mournings doorstep waiting to try and kiss his ass and convince him to becoume a Mav we lost our shot at Malone. Too much a slap in the face of choosing to pursue Mourning over him. And righfully so IMO.

That's a good trade.

Ostertag/Bradley/Fortson 40 - Nowitzki 8
Nowitzki 30 - Walker 18
Walker 17 - Harpring 28
Finley 33 - Howard 18
Nash 32 - Best 16

It takes some minutes away from Howard, but knowing Nellie, he'd adjust by starting Dirk, Walk, and Harpring.

Utah wouldn't do this deal, though, IMO.

Probably not, but I'd still run it up the flagpole and see if they saluted. But then again maybe it's already been tried.

Are you just considering his talent, or are you taking in mind his contract. The answer is, no you can't, this is about what you could get, probably less but its a very good trade, though Utah wouldn't do it. I hate to sound like a broken record but most people with these fantasy trades forget the #1 most important thing, MONEY. The talent difference between Harping and Jamison is pretty small, look at his numbers 17, 8 and 2 pretty much what Jamison would put up. But now, Harping is making 15 million for 3 years, Jamision is making 73 million for 5 years, what in Jesus's name would suggest that Utah would even pick-up the phone on this trade? Even if you think Jamison is better, is he 58 million dollars better? Their is a better chance Fortson will become a spokesman for "Weight Watchers"

Think of it this way, if somehow Jamison's current contract became void, its no longer binding nor legal. So he is a free agent but to sign him you have to sign him for the same amount as his last contract, 5 years at 73, how many teams would, dispite the fact that you don't have to give up a thing, not even a ballboy, sign him at that price? not many. Personally, because of the reason stated above the Mavs should keep Jamison because they probably won't get equal talent for him.

What Utah would get is more of an inside scorer and a player more suited to being the #1 option in an offense. Look what Sloan has done for Harprings career. It wouldn't be such a small stretch that Sloan could have a similar career enhancing affect on Jamison. Hell look what Sloan did with malone and stockton. Bottom line is Jamison has lots more talent to work with. Is it enough for the price difference? I certainly can't say it definitely is. But I don't think you can say it definitely isn't. I will gladly concede that it would be a longshot vs a surething to have this trade happen.

You guys way overrate Ostertag. Sloan plays conventional lineups nellie doesn't. I don't like harpering. Raef used to have great numbers here as well. Didn't do much with the mavs.
