RE:The Official Draft Day Thread (For those actively watching the draft)
I really wish we knew what the hell is going on now. I hate waiting.
Warriors take the dude from Latvia at 11. Guess that deal was a rumor, no one's said anything about that.

not necessarily. Harris could definitely backup Nash. It probably means that we have plans to get a center someway else than the draft.

Yep, can mean that they expect Daniels to be gone.

Insider says the Warriors had promised to take Biedrins there, if that makes a difference. I wouldn't be surprised if in fact there was a deal in place...but at this point I don't know what to think!

No way that Nash agrees to a Sign & Trade to the Lakers. I think Devin Harris will be a great PG, but I believe he is part of another deal.

I read a quote from Nash's agent somewhere today. When asked if Steve would agree to a S&T to LAL, he said it would do it in a heartbeat.

Trade is official. Same as reported, except we also give them "cash considerations." Huh. They say $3mil now. Eeg.

Why did Cuban have to include $3 Million with that trade? Jamison rules.

I'm starting to think the Mavs gambled, and lost, that Livingston would be there. Apparently they still got a very good player, but I think they were expecting something different.

I'm guessing the $3mil is to balance salaries? Is that b/c of Harris's guaranteed contract? Is that why the $$$ wasn't part of it before?

Will I be the only one that will get pissed if Nash gets carted off to La-la-land? I mean, does it make much sense that right as we bring in a big guy that demands the ball, we ship out the one guy who could feed it to him? Let's hope Harris can fill in for him...
The ideal situation would be to somehow end up with Nash, Nowitzki and O'Neal. If we could pull that off we'd have the best chance for a championship this team's ever had.

so is A. Stephen Smith. That guy has a big bag of nothing. His idea that we'll lose Nash to Phoenix unless we trade him to LA is ridiculous.

It makes some sense that the Mavs would keep Harris. It forces Nash to either agree to a sign-and-trade or let him walk.

Nellie's comments make me feel a lot better. Harris is not only the most NBA ready point gaurd but he is only 20. Nice pick, sportingnews has him ranked #1 pg.

RE:The Official Draft Day Thread (For those actively watching the draft)
Nobody has said yet that it was $3 mil.. $3 mil is just the maximum cash consideration you can put into a trade.
If my numbers are right, putting $3 mil into the deal comes VERY close to busting the 15% rule (15.3% when taking the difference as a percentage of the larger sum).. so who knows how much it really was.
I think the cash considerations are one of the missteps from a doing-business-with perspective that Cuban has made since buying the team. He handed out cash considerations during that 2000 Draft and boasted about how it was the price of doing business. So now, teams agree to pieces of a trade, then probably demand he throw in some cash, because they know it's not an inhibitor.

This should allow us to squeeze Nash on the length of his contract.

RE:The Official Draft Day Thread (For those actively watching the draft)
You may disagree with SMith but Nash could leave us. He isn't guaranteed to sign back with us but I don't think Mavs deal him to the Lakers nor do I think Lakers want him. The Mavs are wayy to close to put stock in a starting rookie point guard. I think Mavs are trading this guy I just hope it isn't for Ilgauskaus(?). I was for sure the Mavs take Deng. When I saw Mavs take a pg I thought either this is Nash's last day as a Mav or they are picking a pg for the Lakers to take.

RE: The Official Draft Day Thread (For those actively watching the draft)
Mandy...yep, that's a direct quote. He followed it by saying how Stevie gets worn down over the course of 82 games. (I guess it *is* true that our offense bogs down when Nash isn't out there.) He went on to say that he expects both Stevie and Daniels to be back, that this pick doesn't change their situations at all, that they are still A#1 priorities, and that he expects Stevie to pass the baton to Harris when the time comes.
Rhylan, I don't think cash considerations count when you are matching salaries for cap purposes.

im surprised some of you guys forgot this. the 3 million is for the 20%(?) salary kicker that laettner has in the event of a trade. it was probably needed to make a deal work, and they probably wouldnt take delk.
