Finished up Week-End (fell asleep near the end last night.)
Just put in "Per Qualche Dollar in Piu".

That's "For a Few Dollars More" for you non-Italian folk. I may watch Another movie tonight as well, or may do some reading instead. Anything to not think about the Cowboy game.

Edit: Finished. Sergio Leone is a f'in genius. No one could build tension better.

The Office UK...... love it, I got the whole series as well. Too bad Gervais had to pull a Chappelle on us (well, technically Chappelle pulled a Gervais, seeing as he cancelled that before Chappelle cancelled his show).

District B13 pretty darn good.

Next up: The 300 Spartans (1962). For comparison's sake. The 300 comes out in the summer?

This really is one of the finest pieces of art produced in the past decade. It'd mindblowing how good this series turned out to be, especiallys since I had heard a ton of hype before I finally watched it. "Why We Fight" is heartbreaking cinema.

They replay it sometimes on the History Channel. and when I saw a little bit the other day it made me want to get it back out.

The DVD set is expensive, but it's worth it. really really good stuff.

I watched Rocky balboa the other day. Not as horrible as it could have been. It is incredibly slow though. I thought tarver did about as well as he could in the limited roll eh was given and he should have been given a bigger roll...

Band of Brothers is outside of the piece of furniture that holds my DVD's and on top of my TV for easy access at any given moment. I'm not kidding you.

I just saw little miss sunshine. Only okay...C+.

Just watched one about an irish guy swimming the english channel after getting laid off from his job. On a Clear Day. Good stuff if you like stories of redemption and parent reconciliation.

Also saw another one recently about I think the first world cub soccer team. "The Game of their Lives". Very good.

I laughed repeatedly...and out loud SEVERAL times when watching LMS. I thought the ending was hilarious. "Awww, and where is your grandfather now? Is he in the audience?...." Her response had me rolling.

Some people like Dumb and Dumber, some don't. Some like Gladiator. Some don't. No need to get argumentative about something so trivial. You didn't like it. That's pretty much where the discussion ends.

It wasn't as funny as i thought it'd be, but it wasn't bad. It was about a messed up family getting their little girl to the pagent. That's what the plot said when i read about it, and it achieved it's goal. It was a bit overrated b/c all those Oscar/SAG/Golden Globe actors are in it.

I've seen London. I've only seen it once and have a pretty good memory of it. I thought it was decent romantic drama. The beginning is kind of explicit (you'll know what i'm talking about). The acting was good for the most part. I was surprised at how well Chris Evans showed emotion. Jason Statham was decent with a weird haircut. Jessica Biel was decent. The girl that plays Maya is HOT!!! It's worth watching.

CONTAINS SPOILERS

Little Miss Sunshine was one of my favorite movies of the year for several reasons:

The acting: Every single actor absolutely nailed their part. Alan Arkin was a gem, Toni Collete gave a great performance (lots of little things about her that I loved), Carrell was a delightful mix of comedy and tragedy, Dano's meltdown in the van was impressive, and Greg Kinnear brought awesome smarm to his role. The thing that is worrisome with such a big cast is that the characters could become one-dimensional. Every one of the main characters had great depth to them.

The story itself: One of the better mixes of comedy and tragedy I have ever seen. I was dying of laughter in the theater, but was also touched by several poignant scenes. (The reaction of Kinnear to his father's death, Carrell's scene in the gas station, the ala-mode-y scene in the diner all come to mind.)

Formal elements: As far as genre, it was a perfect road movie. Great cinematography, excellent pacing/editing, and how can you go wrong with Sufjan providing most of your score?

It is what it is, a story about a dysfunctional family, how they interact, and how they ultimately come together. It just so happened that it was done really, really well, all the more impressive that it was done by a pair of first-time filmmakers.

I also loved little miss sunshine. But salt, I thought the carell scene in the gas station with his Ex was by far the worst part of the movie. Not that it was poorly acted, just that it could be the most convenient scene in movie history.

BBL,

I can definitely agree with that, but I thought Carrell's switch from seemingly happy to completely distraught was awesome to watch.

Other things I've been watching:

Arrested Development Season 1

Three Colors: White
Pan's Labyrinth - Visually stunning, one of the best films of 06.
The Wire: Season 1 - Simply one of the best television shows of all time.

I watched Alpha Dog Saturday. Surprisingly, better than I thought it'd be. Timberlake was actually pretty good, I thought.

Ghost Rider.

I had a series of feelings about this movie. I think that as far as the movie in general, i'd say it's on par with other Marvel movies except the Spider-man's and X2. The cgi was good-ish but it's the way the characters look before cgi that makes the cgi looks worse than it is (if that makes sense). I think what made the film enjoyable was the reason a lot of people doubted it, which was Nick Cage. I don't know how some of you feel about him being chosen to play GR, but he and Sam Elliot were the only ones that were cast well. Eva Mendes is really really nice to look at. I liked the action scenes, although the poor writing didn't make them as good as they should've been.

I watched Reno 911 and it had its moments, good laughs to be had on that one.

Ghost rider....... gah, shoot me. I fell asleep in it, and I was expecting so much of it.

Now Alpha Dog, wow, I hate Timberlake but he did a very good job in it, I thought it was thoroughly entertaining. I will probably watch it again.

I saw "Pan's Labyrinth" last weekend and thought it was the coolest fairy tale, evAr. It was the definitive "feast for the eyes" type of movie, and the storyline was brutal as hell. Good stuff.

Saw "Blood Diamond" a few weeks ago and thought it was the cat's pajamas, as well. Then again, anything with Jennifer Connelly is the cat's pajamas, IMO.

Finally watched The Departed last night (HD-DVD in all its glory). I thought it was pretty much what I expected it to be...stellar.

Gonna watch Babel tonight probably..hope it's as good.

Half Nelson - expected a stellar performance from Gosling and was more impressed with the girl.

Borat - not as funny as I heard it was.

Babel - biblical references, pretty intense.. from a different angle it was Crash reloaded..
