RE: The Monterrey Expos?
The idea is old already. The players voted to not play in Monterrey. It wasn't going to be a new franchise, only to share some home games in Monterrey. But the Expos played with the same idea in Puerto Rico and didn't like it cause they said it was very exhausting, the trips, having two very far home towns.
Monterrey is still looking for it, but the Expos directives said that they wanted to respect the players decision.
However, a MLB franchise in Mexico is now more factible for the near future. Hope it happens soon cause it would attract other leagues to do the same, above all the NBA and the MLS.
Edit: I just read the article. The ambassador Garza is supporting Monterrey for holding the franchise. I think the city isn't the problem. Monterrey is a very modern city, very similar to good and big cities in the US, an exception in Latinamerica. The attendance wouldn't be a problem either, cause they would have many Mexican MLB fans going to the games. Maybe it would be only the distance factor and the culture, but WTH, many players are latins and the others are used to them and their culture. They only would need to boil the water.
