It's been 20 something games. They aren't used to each other either. Plug him in ASAP!!

Ease him in ONLY when his knee is FULLY ready. Last thing anyone needs is Dirk to swell again because he was rushed back too early.

No-they're mostly new players who haven't gotten to play that much with him. They likely aren't that used to him. He's also probably going to be pretty rusty, hence the limited minutes approach.
I could see why some of you would want him tossed in there-sink or swim, but that could result in more messy games. Figuring out on the fly doesn't always work out.
As long as they are careful with him and seriously watch his minutes so he doesn't reinjure the knee-that's all I'm concerned about.

Dirk will only help them. He should be eased in based on his health, nothing else.

He basically confirmed in his taped interview with Followill prior to the game that he's shooting for somewhere between Christmas and New Year's Day.

The sheer talent infusion of a 70% Dirk will greatly overshadow whatever occasional X's and O's confusion the team may have.

I'm not sure if everyone has seen this but I saw it at the arena last week and it cracked me up.

- Dirk hates the Heat just as much as any of us do
- Guys like Bryant and James would only visit a children's hospital for PR boosting, it's great that Dirk does it even without NBA Cares cameras on.

The dirkster lumbering around a tennis court. I think his motto should be "dirk smash". It looks like he is trying to kill everything.

Nowitzki feeling old in at least one respect
by: Eddie Sefko - Dallas Morning News

http://mavsblog.dallasnews.com/2013/...-respect.html/

Dirk Nowitzki knows he’s getting old. Sometimes, he gets reminded in unusual ways.

A reporter from the Orlando area came up to him after the Mavericks’ win over the Magic and told him that promising Magic center Nikola Vucevic grew up idolizing Nowitzki.

“I guess I’m old is what that means,” Nowitzki said. “That means I’ve been around a long time. But he’s a fun young player. I’m happy for him and if he keeps working, he’s going to be a great player in this game.”

Vucevic, a native of Montenegro who went to college at USC, had 14 points and 11 rebounds on Sunday.

Nowitzki, by the way, had three blocked shots, including a nasty swat of J.J. Redick on a drive to the basket, after which Nowitzki screamed out one of his trademark “take that with you” yells.

The three blocks tied a season high.

Love Dirk, hope there will be a second Dirk somewhere I can cheer for once he retires. Or hopefully, Dirk stays in the NBA and becomes a coach. That would be awesome. I would even cheer for the Spurs if he was their head coach.

Why We Watch: Dirk Nowitzki, The Stretch

Dirk Nowitzki was at the mercy of a silly narrative, until he blew it up simply by being his own weird self.

The year before Dirk Nowitzki arrived in Dallas, Mavericks coach/GM and resident mad scientist Don Nelson drafted an Australian named Chris Anstey in the first round and dubbed him “the best running seven-footer in the world.” So when he dubbed a painfully shy German teenager the future of the franchise, there was plenty of skepticism. Few would have guessed he had unearthed the most unlikely franchise player in NBA history.

At the time, the only basketball that “mattered” was happening in the lower 48 states. NBA players were still unbeaten in international competitions; the painful drubbings given to Team USA overseas were still years away. Dirk was the first foreign player selected in the Top 10 who hadn’t played in the NCAA. No one knew what to make of him, especially after a rookie season where he averaged only 8 points a game. The NBA was a more provincial place, then.

When Dirk started coming into his own in his second year, the league really didn’t know what to make of him. Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett had shown that seven-footers didn’t have to be centers, but they were still athletic big men who dominated the glass and thrived in the paint. Dirk, on the other hand, was sui generis. There had been other sweet-shooting big men, but none who preferred running off screens and spotting up from 25 feet like a shooting guard. Dirk wasn’t just unconventional; he was a challenge to almost a century of conventional wisdom in the sport.

For me, Dirk could shoot 0% for the next 3 years with an turnover-assist ratio of 9000, retire, and still be great in my book. Too many good memories to overcome.

I'm not even lying when I tell you I'll prolly name my first son Dirk. I am part German....so theres my justification. In all seriousness, most of my friends won't even broach the subject of the NBA with my anymore because in the end, I always revert back to talking about the greatness of Dirk. Hell, even in non-nba conversations I find a way to tie it back to Dirk somehow. He is simply the epitome of everything I value in a sports figure as both a player and a human being. I would possibly quit watching the Mavs, after being a diehard fan for 15 years, if we ever trade Dirk. He has been here his entire career here, and I, for one, am not at all convinced cubes won't shell out the cash to give him at least 1 last go at a title. And if he gets 2 rings for this franchise, for this city, he becomes the most beloved sports figure in DFW history (IMO). His greatness should never be underestimated, nor should his ability to turn a bad game into one of the most beautiful offensive displays seemingly instantaneously. This word gets thrown around a lot....but Dirk is EPIC, in the purest sense.

Yeah.... Dirk has become average. He should have just road off into the sunset on June 12, 2011. Instead he gets to waste away with a sh*tty group and only 1 player with who actually played during the run. And even that player will be gone pretty quick.

Dirk is the only non bearded player who stepped up. I'm not sure roddy/Cunningham can grow one but I would have sorta like to have seen Shawn give it a shot.

Grantland: When Shawn Marion makes one of his crazy shots, you immediately scream, “OF COURSE!” I’ve heard you do it even before the shot goes in. Are you being ironic?

Dirk: Oh, yeah, it's ironic. Sometimes I'm thinking, I spend millions of hours in the gym working on my jumper, and he just runs in there, sometimes from 15 feet, and he's barely looking at the basket. I really like his runner, though. That's money. I'm talking about the one where he dribbles and doesn't even look, spins halfway around in the air, and throws that half-floater, half-jump hook up, and somehow it goes in. I've been watching him for four years, and I'm still in awe on the bench sometimes, like, "How does he make those?" He's fun to watch. He's a special, unique player. I've never seen the shots he takes and makes.

Dirk needs to become a Mavs broadcaster. Even if we lost every game, I would watch just to hear Dirk's jokes and commentary.

Something that put a huge grin on my face today. ESPN has an article on Jordan since his 50th birthday is coming up. It's pretty good, everyone should go read it, but check this tidbit out:

"JORDAN PLAYS his new favorite trivia game, asking which current players could be nearly as successful in his era. "Our era," he says over and over again, calling modern players soft, coddled and ill-prepared for the highest level of the game. This is personal to him, since he'll be compared to this generation, and since he has to build a franchise with this generation's players.

"I'll give you a hint," he says. "I can only come up with four."

He lists them: LeBron, Kobe, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki."

Coming from the greatest of all time, that's a huge compliment and rightfully deserved.
