CMT's 100 greatest songs in country music
Weird list. Lots of greatness, though. Willie's on there just 4 times, but that is more than anyone else.

Thought this one would have been higher!!! I love this song...
Quote:
28. "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)" by Alan Jackson

I thought this one was a little high, but it might have been because of 9-11.
Quote:
30. "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack
|
Don't know why this one broke the top 50.
Quote:
64. "When You Say Nothing at All" by Alison Krauss

I think her voice is a little too scratchy for my taste, but I think it should have been a little higher than 64.

RE: CMT's 100 greatest songs in country music
Am I the only one that doesn't care for Stand By Your Man that much??
Give me Patsy Cline any day. Crazy and I Fall To Pieces in the top 10. Not bad, not bad at all.

RE: CMT's 100 greatest songs in country music
Can't believe Indian Outlaw didn't make it:
-----
I'm an Indian outlaw
Half Cherokee and Choctaw
My baby she's a Chippewa
She's one of a kind
All my friends call me Bear Claw
The Village Cheaftin' is my paw-paw
He gets his orders from my maw-maw
She makes him walk the line
You can find me in my wigwam
I'll be beatin' on my tom-tom
Pull out the pipe and smoke you some
Hey and pass it around
'Cause I'm an Indian outlaw
Half Cherokee and Choctaw
My baby she's a Chippewa
She's one of a kind
I ain't lookin' for trouble
We can ride my pony double
Make your little heart bubble
Lord, Like a glass of wine
I remember the medicine man
He caught runnin' water in my hands
Drug me around by my headband
Said I wasn't her kind
Cause I'm an Indian outlaw
Half Cherokee and Choctaw
My baby she's a Chippewa
She's one of a kind
I can kill a deer or buffalo
With just my arrow and my hickory bow
>From a hundred yards don't you know
I do it all the time
They all gather 'round my teepee
Late at night tryin' to catch a peek at me
In nothin' but my buffalo briefs
I got 'em standin' in line
Cause I'm an Indian outlaw
Half Cherokee and Choctaw
My baby she's a Chippewa
She's one of a kind
Cherokee people
Cherokee tribe
So proud to live
So proud to die

CMT's 100 greatest songs in country music
Old country = good.
New country = unbelievably atrocious.
Simple as that! People like Faith Hill have NO PLACE amongst the pantheon of greats: Patsy, Willie, Hank Sr.
Also, I can't believe "Elvira" from the Oak Ridge Boys wasn't on the list. That was my first record, and damn if it's not a great song...

CMT's 100 greatest songs in country music
My two cents:
No way a Garth Brooks song should be in the Top 10.
No way that Foggy Bottom Boys song should be in the Top 20.
There should be more Johnny Cash and George Strait on this list.

Totally disagree. You cannot deny the impact that "Friends in Low Places" had on the music (not just country) scene. No. 1 overall album for a long time; no. 1 country record for like forever. The combined impact of "Friends in Low Places" and "Smells like Teen Spirit" destroyed the Top 40 Radio format and it took 5 years for it to recover. And I don't like Garth Brooks much, either.

Totally agree. Gimmick song by gimmick band. Never got substantial airplay.

I thought it was 100 greatest songs, not 100 most popular. If this is the criteria, the Macarena should be in the Top 10 of Pop and Dance All-Time Lists.
If I had the time, I could CERTAINLY come up with 10 songs better than Friends in Low Places. That's my criteria.

That song is entitled, "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American)." Don't see it making this list.

CMT's 100 greatest songs in country music
Garth Brooks helped push country music more towards pop..but, he still had alot of country music in him.
Unfortunately, most "country" singers of today have little to do with country music.
Friends in low places
and
the dance
they both definitely belong.. plus a couple others

What about "Something Like That" by Tim McGraw
Any song that includes the line "I had a barbeque stain on white tee shirt" is legendary.

I think Garth's songs should be on the list, just not in the Top 10.
