Default Larry Flynt to the rescue

Sen. Barbara Boxer promised this week to stop President Bush's U.N. nominee, John Bolton, at all costs, announcing on the Senate floor on Thursday:

"I guess [Bush] wants a fight. And if that's where we're going, that's where we're going, because we're going to have a fight. If this comes to the floor, we're going to have a fight."

Boxer has put a hold on Bolton's nomination, giving Democrats more time to dig up dirt on the conservative diplomat.

Enter Democratic Party investigative pornographer Larry Flynt - whose probe into the private lives of top Republicans during the Clinton impeachment battle led to the resignation of House Speaker Robert Livingston.

The mud-digging Democrat, who offered $10 million for naked photos of the Bush twins in 2001, has called on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to conduct a full inquiry into the curcumstances of Bolton's 1982 divorce.

Over at Air America - the DNC's primary talk radio outlet - host Janeane Garafalo gleefully touted Flynt's involvement Thursday night.

Will Senate Democrats and their mainstream media allies stoop so low as to introduce this line of attack when the full Senate votes on Bolton?

With Sen. Boxer threatening a no-holds-barred battle royale, the Bush White House had best be prepared for the Democrats to go into the gutter.

Larry Flynt will dig the dirt on anybody, especially if that dirt has a sexual overtone to it. Although I'm not a fan of Flynt's business (porno just flat out demeans women) I do respect his crusade for free speech/press. From his website:

Quote:
A MESSAGE TO THE POLITICAL RIGHT

I've been accused by some readers of favoring the political Left in HUSTLER. I don't believe that's true; I simply take aim at assholes when I see them, and these days, there seems to be a lot of them on the Right. But since it's assholes I despise, it really doesn't matter to me what side of the political fence they sit on. Gephardt and Lieberman are assholes too, for my money.

As for the magazine itself, we simply get more cooperation from people-reporters, experts, personalities-who favor left-wing causes. Reporter Greg Palast, Nobel Prize nominee Dr. Helen Caldicott and movie actor Peter Coyote have all contributed to articles on complex issues of government. Those on the Right have largely declined invitations to speak with us, with the exception of G. Gordon Liddy and Christopher Hitchens (although I'm not sure you can really say Hitchens is on the Right; I don't know where you'd put him). Meanwhile Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Larry Elder, Oliver North, Pat Buchanan, Dennis Miller and Michael Medved have all turned us down for interviews.

So here's the deal: I will guarantee any of the above conservatives (and a few that are not mentioned here) complete freedom in any interview we do with them, reserving only the right to edit for space, not content. I make this offer because I want HUSTLER to present both sides of a given political issue and because I believe that vigorous debate is what makes a democracy great. So, to Ann, Rush, Larry, Oliver, Pat, Dennis and Michael, I say: Stop complaining that HUSTLER has a left-wing bias and step up to the plate. We're waiting to see if you can knock one out of the park.
As it relates to Bolton, his past acts against underlings are well exposed and don't need rehashing. A critical question to this nomination is this: Should an arrogant person who has stifled dissent, verbally abused subordinates and attempted to do an end run around experts who have disagreed with his views be awarded with an Ambassadorship?

simple is as simple does.

OTOH, attempting to silence a government analyst when they object to what you intend to say in a speech as an Ambassador, or to attempt to have an analyst dismissed due to their not agreeing with your view, is a very compelling argument to not get a promotion.

The issue isn't what his political philosophy is (albeit dems opposing a bush nominee is certainlky politics) it's if he acts appropriately as a diplomat/public servant.

I never want to read about Larry Flynt calling anybody else an a**hole. He's the owner of one of the largest pornography chains in the United States. He has no business taking a crack at someone else's integrity.
