Playoffs
Lets be optimistic and say the Mavs make finish in the 6th-8th spot, which team would you rather face?
I would in this order:
Houston (don't think they are that good)
New Orleans (no playoff experience)
L.A. Lakers (if they are without Bynum and/or Gasol, they are pretty weak)
Utah (pretty solid team that went to the conference finals)
S.A. (still the champ until someone beats them)

New Orleans
Houston
SA
Utah
LA
If LA has Bynum I wouldn't want to play them. Utah's frontcourt would give us a lot of trouble since Damp is our only big man right now and Kidd can't guard Deron. SA doesn't worry me much at all honestly, we can take them.

The standings would have to change like CRAZY for us to be matched up with the Suns in the first round.

what in blue blazes makes you think that? We haven't so far ... If anything Phx is slower. I'd take my chances against anyone along with the fact that this team is being vastly underrated and under coached.

Is that what they're calling "rings" these days?
I wouldn't want to face any of these teams. Houston is probably #1 on my list because Yao is out, but then we'd have to face their fan base on this board. That one playoff series a few years ago was just about all I can take. NO is next, but CP3 will be at the line a ton.
LA, Utah, and SA are all tied for me. I don't want to see any of them.

I want to say:
NO
Houston
SA
Utah
Lakers
but then I am reminded that Yao is out so Dampier might be able to dominate...and TMac has never made it out of the first round. I think Houston might be swapped with NO.

Is it not crazy that San Antonio, Phoenix and Dallas are currently seeded 5, 6 and 7? The same 3 teams that have dominated the Western Conference for quite a while now, each taking turns being the #1 seed.
This is the craziest year in the Western Conf. Who knows let's get in, get Dirk back and see what happens in the playoffs.

Give me SA first...with Kidd here I just feel like we can take them even with the way we have been playing..and then we would deal with the tougher team later. LA and New Orleans would prolly be our toughest match ups..ohh yee and GS. But i think Kidd can do a good job on Williams and maybe Davis too

I don't understadn why everyone wants the Hornets. Yeah they are inexperienced but Chris Paul is a matchup nightmare for Kidd. I think the Rockets are the easy choice. Utah is another good option. Phoenix without Marion I like to play more as well.

I think we can probably almost all agree Houston would be the easiest since they have no Yao, no streak anymore and no know how of getting out of the first round. After that there is no other team I'd prefer to play. All tough matchups.

They have athletes just like Golden State. That alone is enough to worry. Plus their hungry. Some look at it as a negative that they haven't gotten out of the 1st round since T-mac has been there but I look at that as a team that's hungry. Matters who their first round opponent is but I wouldn't be shocked if this is the year. Even without Yao.

SA (Dallas is built to beat them)
Hou (without Yao, IF they keep a C on the floor, they can win)
NO (no playoff experience)
Utah (I think Kidd handles Deron, and Damp Boozer -- Dallas actually matches up pretty well)
Phoenix (Erica vs Snack) Barbosa ends up being the wild card. All the rest match up well.
GS ( I dislike how much Nellie spanks the Mavs)
LA (Kobe owns the Mavs, and I don't care if it were one on 5 I still might take Kobe when he is playing the Mavs. The Mavs just cannot beat LA consistently . NO more heartbreaking 87)
In fact, basically give the Mavs anyone but GS or LA --- and I think they have a good chance. They will have to play better than they have been lately, but they match up pretty well.

I think the Mavs have to go 7-3 to get the eighth seed.

looking ahead at there schedule, the only reason to believe that they can win 4 or 5 of their next 10 is because they play seattle twice and new orleans in the last game of the season (an NO may have everything wrapped up at that time)....

I continue to believe that this team has got to start winning some games against playoff contenders. Sooner or later random probabilities work in your favor...unless you are the equivalent of Miami or Seattle or LAC. If the Mavs lose the remaining games they have with playoff contenders then it would be yet another embarrassing collapse. I can't believe this team is THAT bad (I'm assuming that Dirk comes back after the Clippers game).

I cannot imagine myself watching the playoffs and not been able to cheer for my favorite team in sports, DA MAVS!!!...but in the same token if Dirk can't be at least 75% for a run to the playoffs, I rather miss the dance, get in the lottery, somehow retool this unit and find a coach that somehow could take advantage of the talent already here.
I am done blaming the referees for the outcome of the games, this team lack discipline and execution, how many times are we going to be called for technicals in the most crucial time of the game? usually well prepared teams are able to make a statement and pull a W out those situations, but in the MAVS case the technicals are killing them.
I still have faith, and I hope that somehow, someway we find our groove and make the playoffs...But if we don't make it, changes are underway!!
1. Keep Dirk (of course), Kidd, Stack, Damp from the rotation
2. Either Josh or Terry got to go as a trade bait.
3. Sign Wright and Bass, maybe either Lue or JJB and perhaps Magliore (let Popeye works his magic in training camp)
4. Bye Bye to George, Juwan, Malik & Eddie Jones (he will probably exercise his player option)
5. Bring back Reyshawn from Europe, he is doing very well over there, hell give Marc Salyers a shot he is been tearing the euroleague for a long time.
6. Draft an athletic player regardles of position, ala Randolph LSU, Greene Syracuse, Lawson NC, Bauton France or Jordan Texas A&M and if the gods smile at us Beasley or Rose.
7. Use the MLE for a young C or SG, i am sick and tired of bringing all this so call "vets" like Croshere, AJ (the other PG) George, Hasell etc etc... we are not the Spurs we are the MAVS.
8. Use the trait bait (Howard or JTerry) for a veteran and ready to step either C or SG that is not used in the MLE....I am not worried about SF, a good one is a dime in dozen in the NBA.
9. Find a coach, Del Harris will be my favorite because the transition will be smoother, but Larry Brown and Rick Carslisle (spelling) will do it.
i'm still hoping for the playoffs season, because I am a fan and you never know if you are going to see tomorrow.

Wrong. Phoenix averages more fast break points with Shaq than before the trade. Shaq gets the rebound, throws the outlet and the rest of the guys are burning down the court. Phoenix is a much more complete team and a bigger threat to the Mavs now than with Marion because they can play slow down big ball and run and gun.
