Looks like Tommy T. don't want to play, supposedly asking for everything, solid vets, elite prospects, future assets and cap relief.

I'd wager $50 that Butler sits inactive through at least October and maybe through the TDL.

The problem is that they paid Lavine, Dunn, and a #7 (Markannen) for him and now they want at least half that value back, which they aren't going to get for a guy who may be a lockerroom issue and is an expiring deal.

Good teams think they can poach him this summer in free agency. Bad teams are weary that if they spend too much, he may be a locker room issue, will walk in free agency, or both.

I half wonder if Barnes, Brunson, and two second rounders won't get it done when the deal finally gets done similar to Noel when he was traded. Maybe Matthews, Brunson, and two seconds. Minny thinks they have an asset and Butler was a star, but the pressure is really on them.

I think some team could trump Wes, Brunson, two 2nds. Barnes, Brunson and two 2nds might end up being enough though. That would give us enough room to resign Butler to max or around 35m and DeAndre to something like 20m per, correct? Regardless of Powell opting in or out.

Wes, Brunson, one second and Powell for Butler/Dieng? Is that close enough salary-wise?

Someone out there can offer a better package. That isn't enticing to Minnesota at all.

Someone can, but the question is if anyone will. As I said:

Bad teams won't offer much because they're afraid he'll be a lockeroom headache and will ditch the team for greener pastures this offseason

good teams will just wait until the offseason thinking they can nab him for free then.

Oh, I know it's highly unlikely. I agree they can probably get a better package. But not too terribly much better. Like Washington maybe would offer Porter. But no way they take back Dieng. Depends on what the TWolves priorities are. Do they even know? Thibs wants to win now, but he's probably gone after the season. Hard to predict what will happen with an organization in chaos. Miami may be the high bidder by virtue of being capped out next season- hence, it may their only shot at Butler. If I'm Minny I ask an extra lot from the teams that he wants to play for. Butler wants the supermax or whatever and they shouldnt go out of their way to appease the malcontent. Take the best offer-- with the caveat that the best offer from Miami or LA includes a little baked in "tax".

Look like Butler is done for certain there though. So Minny's only leverage is playing teams against each other.

They have absolutely no reason at all to make that deal. I would love to get Butler though.

I actually wouldn't offer them anything more than Wes and if they want Powell and/ or DFS.

I would be hesitant to even include Brunson or too many pics and I would def. not give up Barnes for Butler.

I would give up anyone on our roster other than Luka/DSJ/Dirk/Jordan if Butler agreed to an extension... Otherwise I don't see any reason to even try to get him -- one-year rentals are for contenders, not rebuilds.
