E. Sefko is predicting a loss:
Quote:
As usual, you can blame ESPN for all the problems in the world.
Or at least with this particular 24-hour stretch of the Mavericks' schedule.
To accommodate the all-powerful Oz of television, the Mavericks had to tip off at 8:30 Sunday night. Actually, it was 8:42 when the ball went up in the air.
A hard-fought game didn't end until after 11 p.m. local time. The Mavericks showered, got dressed and headed to the airport as expeditiously as they could. And they were due to land in Charlotte, N.C., at 3:45 a.m., East Coast time.
That means the earliest their heads hit pillows was 4:30 a.m.
What does all this mean?
It means the Mavericks are set up for a loss today against the Bobcats. All the odds are working against them. Charlotte has never beaten Dallas (the only team in the NBA the Bobcats are winless against). And the game today is at 7 p.m. Eastern time, which is about 19 hours after the Sunday night game ended.
If the Mavericks survive the trip to Charlotte, it will be a huge upset.
This one should legitimately fall under the category of "scheduled loss," the sort of game that crops up on the schedule a few times a season.
If that's the case, there's no shame in it. The Bobcats are good at home (20-7). But if by some miracle the Mavericks overcome all the odds and win tonight, it will officially prove that this team is immune to even the most cruel of circumstances.

The real issue here is that two forum members just cemented the loss.

I expect a loss in this one, for all of the reasons described above.
That said, Mavs win.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a little anger from our guys tonight. They know that had to be one of the biggest buzz kill wins of the season. Wouldn't be surprised if we find a way to win off attitude alone tonight. You couldn't say that about this team before the all-star break. The trade brings more than just talent and energy. Hopefully tonight we will see the "Oh hell no" mindset! lol

If things go well we should be the 2nd seed, hopefully PHX beat the Nuggets which would be good with either a W/L against the kittens.

Very tough one due to the circumstances. But I hope for a win. Go Mavs!

I think the main thing from tonights game will be team effort, especially in defense. It will be hard to win, but I'll be glad if we prove great defense once again and great form.
ps.Dirk - player of the (last) week!!! Agree???

Hopefully the bench won't throw the game away and will actually contribute tonight. If Stevenson, Terry, Najera, etc. can provide us with some positive energy we can still take this game!

Why didn't the team wait and fly out today around Noon?
They could've slept in their own beds...get to the airport late morning...fly out at Noon and still arrive in Charlotte between 3-4...get to the arena by 4:30...quick shoot around, and then play the game.
Seems like flying the red-eye is a serious set up for disaster...at least if the NBA/ESPN scheduling Gods are going to screw you, then give it back to them.
Or they could say the heck with this, and send out the NBDL team to play in the Mavs place.
Hopefully, we can an upset victory for the Mavs tonight!!!

I don't know any specifics, but I bet there are specific travel rules in the CBA.
Plus, as a practical matter, you wouldn't want to fly out at the last second - there could be delays, and the you have a big mess on your hands ($$$$).
But that's just a guess.

+rep for you sir. I was hoping the sarcasm/irony wouldn't go unnoticed.
But since I am a fan of all things laissez faire, I refuse to blame capitalism and choose to blame others. For that matter, I also blame the weak.
Still...Go Mavs!!!

Hey how many posts do I need before I can start making New threads?
I just saw that the Spurs were going to release Finley and I wanted to know the opinion on possibly bringing him back for this run?

I don't think there's any way Finley ever comes back after the way he left here. It really isn't thread worthy, it's a simple question.

I think it is thread worthy because it generates discussion that im sure a lot of people would like to comment on.
Im new to this place but having the same threads on the front page makes this place become stagnant.
When posters are allowed to make topics with their questions and also help contribute by posting articles it keeps the board looking fresh.
I've been a Admin for one of the best Cowboys message boards for years and its got a ton of people constantly on there.
If you want more traffic than the current system needs to be looked at.

I think you need 100 posts before you can start a new thread in this forum (not 100% sure on this though). I believe that policy is in place to stop spammers as much as anything else. I mean it's flattering to receive 50% off penis pills or a credit card rate I can't refuse from well-intentioned new posters, but I'm not really interested in that sort of thing, you know?
Btw, if you want to talk about Michael Finley returning, there is a thread about it right over here: http://www.dallas-mavs.com/vb/showth...74#post1074274
