Devos said that he'd do what it took to resign Hedo, now he's going to open up the coffers for VC to do what it takes to win now.

No no no, we should be at least hearing how the Dallas Mavericks tried to acquire so and so from team x but team x refused. I'm really not sure if Donnie or Mark is doing a damn thing.

Well, clearly you'd expect that, but even without counting what it costs to fill out the rest of their roster or re-sign Gortat (backups in the front-court become an issue for them if they pull of this trade), they're looking at adding probably 5.5-6 million in salary at the moment, which is to say 11-12 million after you count taxes. I didn't expect that from them.

Look, we'd all love to hear about a ton of Gasol-esque trades in favor of the mavs that make us an insanely solid team.. But the fact of the matter is that just because we're not hearing anything doesn't mean that they're not doing anything. Give it time, let's see what happens. If it's the end of the summer and we still have the same roster then yeah, get pissed.. But until then, don't stress.

That's what a new arena does to you. Revenues skyrocket, you go from 17,000 seats to 20,000, triple the luxury suites you have, plus you get a head start by getting to the Finals.....

It looks like we can scratch VC off the list. It's about confirmed that he's going to the Magic.

So VC could be off the board now, Shaq, RJ...

Any other player anyone want to mention that we could get that we'll have our heart broken over?

When did I ever give that impression? My objection to the stuff that's getting spewed around here by you and a few others has nothing to do with apathy about wanting to see the Mavs improve the team. It has to do with the fact that your posts are ridiculous. It's patently absurd and utterly lacking in substance to argue that the Mavs' front office is not up to their eyeballs in consultations and trade conversations right now.

Is it? Give me a link to one trade on the table or being discussed for the Mavs? Just about every other team has been mentioned in some form as far as doing something or being involved in SOMETHING. Why aren't the Mavs? Because they're better at being "secretive"? You have no proof.

The Golden State Warriors have acquired guards Acie Law and Speedy Claxton from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for guard Jamal Crawford, the team announced on Thursday.

Don Nelson had threatened to not play Crawford in 09-10 in an attempt to convince the guard not to exercise his player option, but instead the Warriors found a way to unload him.

Golden State is expected to receive insurance compensation on Claxton's contract.
Doesn't really impact the Mavs, but just sharing.

If they are up to their eyeballs why the constant twitter updates. I like Mark Cuban but sometimes his updates make me think hes a 15 yr old girl. Maybe it's just my utter distaste for the idea anyone gives a shit what you are doing or thinking or eating at every damn moment of every day

The Pacers are discussing point guard T.J. Ford with a number of teams, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Umm... I'd like him. Sign and trade Kidd and bring in Ford.

Ford can play for the next 10 years, Kidd is done next year. Kidd also costs a shit load more.

Hmmm, interesting that Orlando will pass on Hedo if VC's a Magic.

Plus, you don't need a great point guard to win in this game. If you can bring in two nice players through a Kidd sign and trade and then bring in a solid point guard in Ford to fill the hole, you're set.

The only thing the F.O. has done is moved the team down in the draft. Usually you don't do that unless you are satisfied with your team, or you're trying to stockpile picks for a bigger trade. I'm skeptical the 56th pick in the draft and a lower 2nd round pick in 2010 is going to accomplish that, but we'll see.

Anyway get mad at me if you want for being pessimistic about the Mavs F.O. but I have zero faith in them and many you have said just as much on this forum but are suddenly optimistic about them again for some reason. I just have this feeling Mark Cuban feels burned on the Kidd trade and hasn't been easy to negotiate with since, or has done something that rubs other teams the wrong way that they want nothing to do with trading with the Mavs. I just can't believe we're heard nothing when better teams than us are getting even better. It's hard to accept.

Didn't Cuban Twitter saying he didn't think anymore trades would go down before the draft? If VC to Orlando happens then...

Whoops...

Magic agree to acquire Nets' Carter
By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports

The New Jersey Nets have agreed in principal to send Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson to the Orlando Magic for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie and Courtney Lee, two league executives told Yahoo! Sports.

The Nets will draft Louisville shooting guard Terrence Willams at No. 11, if he's still available.

Devin Harris and Courtney Lee is one hell of an athletic young backcourt. I can't wait to watch that duo play together.

Hopefully he didn't take the whole morning off. Trades officially can't go through, but can be agreed in principle.

Center is not this team's primary need. A starting wing is this team's primary need.

I wouldn't count on seeing Chandler in Dallas. I think he'd be an upgrade compared to Damp, but not a big enough upgrade to justify (in the mind of the front office) the extra 12 million he's due to be paid in 2010/2011.
Those are some interesting numbers, and there's no doubt that we wouldn't win a championship, if JET and Wright continued to play the way they did during the playoffs. So yes, the SG position is something we'd want to improve. I'd never question that, even though JET on top of his game isn't bad at all. Having played above-average prior to his surgery, he played below-average afterwards. The average JET is quite good.

However, we won't get a ring with Damp as our starting 5. Only if we improve the other positions perfectly. Would you be so kind, grndmstr_c, and compare Damp's numbers against San Antonio and Denver for us? I bet they look much better against San Antonio. And there's the problem, I guess: Damp is too inconsistent. He can be really good against equally big and slow centers, as evidenced by his performance against San Antonio. But as soon as he faces somewhat quick or smaller centers, he's no longer of any help at all. His "contributions" against the Nuggets were downright horrible and probably too much to overcome for a team that wants to win a champiosnhip.

I don't really want Chandler either, but if healthy, he'd arguably be an upgrade, especially offensively. That's another aspect of it: a center with offensive skills like Chandler or Kaman would make life for Dirk or JET so much easier since the opposing defenders would finally find someone in the post they couldn't leave alone. Kidd would find him and Dirk would pass the ball to him as well, if he was doubled. We'd just be so much more flexible on offense.

I guess that something like Damp/S+T Bass for Chandler/Posey might work out and help the Hornets as well. On the one hand, they'd be able to save a lot of money after next season and also get rid of Posey's long and suboptimal contract. On the other hand, they'd get a capable young man in Bass who could be a nice back-up.

Again, there are certainly better scenarios out there. But it's better than nothing and not totally unrealistic.

As far as the Carter-to-Orlando rumor is concerned, I'm a little afraid that JET/Stack might not be enough to top it. We still shouldn't offer Josh/Stack, which would be much more interesting for the Nets, if we weren't sure to be able to get someone like Marion to make up for Josh leaving.

The Magic would be scary good with Carter, that's for sure.

I'm worried that the Mavs aren't actually going to use their newly acquired draft picks in a trade.. That's how I've justified it as being a good idea, and so far I'm dead wrong.

I wonder if Orlando has a player in mind in the draft that they think can do the same thing this year as Courtney Lee did last year? Is it possible to trust your scouting that much?
