Nice article talking about Luka and Melli.
https://www.mavs.com/mellinotathrowin/

If something makes Luka happy, then I'm happy. The initial tweet about the Reddick trade (Charania) said it was a three team deal with Trey Lyles (San Antonio) coming to the Mavs. Maybe the MBT decided they would rather have Melli?

What does Melli’s contract look like after this season?

JJ Redick On Being Traded To The Dallas Mavericks
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rujD...annel=JJRedick
He will be with the team this week in NY.
A little way away from playing.
Excited to play with Luka.
Loved Redick telling Mavs twitter to calm down...

SMC answered, but really we have two options

1) We decline to give him his QO and he becomes an unrestricted free agent and his cap hold can be erased

2) We give him a 4.8million qualifying offer. At that point, he's a restricted FA. He either plays for that 4.8 mill next year and is a UFA next year or he gets offers from other teams and we have to decide if we match or let him walk.

Lots of flexibility depending on his performance and how much cap we want to clear this summer (if there's a potential target)

Inevitably people will get all hyped up because of his first solid performance.

Depending on his performance is really the key factor. Hopefully Rick gets a good look at him before the end of the season.

Good god. Mavs twitter is the worst. Anyone here thinking this place gets negative, this place is a dream compared to that cesspool. Noobs that are way over the top with outlandish comments plague the threads of most decent follows.

I don't see why people are so butt hurt about JJ. He was never going to really move the needle here aside from his contract ending and freeing up money. I think it's clear that he will be signing elsewhere in the offseason. If we get an upgrade from Johnson in the 3pt shooting when he gets healthy and in the playoffs, then cool.

So JJ Reddick wanted to be closer to his kid in Brooklyn so instead of trading him or buying him out so he can get to a team on the East Coast....they send him to Dallas. Ouch. He probably thought he was going to be a Brooklyn Net.

If JJ really wanted to be closer to his kid he could have offered half his contract back. So obviously it wasn't as important as the money to him

The NBA Finals will be completed in mid-July so he's got at most 3 and a half months to play for us

Who would've offered their contract back or any money for the matter.

All I'm saying is that if going to play closer to home was REALLY important then JJ would have offered a major salary break to the team

JJ chose money so the playing close to home wasn't his priority

Giant stack of money vs a smaller stack and playing close to home. Despite what JJ said, the giant stack was the most important

So at the end of the day Dallas was not a place he wanted to be.

It's funny because I was watching the Jump and both Richard Jefferson and Robert Horry was like dude what exactly have you done to request where you can be traded to...

I didn't hear Marion or Tyson Chandler complaining about Dallas wasn't their 1st choice keep that shit to yourself dude.

Reddick has a podcast and I assume other business ventures...if the front office told him they would ship him to a eastern team why would he offer to lose money if he's under the impression he's getting shipped out to a east team?

On all the above I agree. I'm actually shocked he wasn't bought out honestly. And he's hurt? He has some balls demanding anything and then he states he wanted to be elsewhere? How much playing time did he think he would even get in Brooklyn with Joe Harris there who's better than him? Landry Shamet who's better than him? Tyler Johnson who's better than him. Maybe he just wanted to ride the bench which says about how much he's going to offer Dallas....

BTW, it sucks that Blake Griffin and Harden can stink to get traded/cut just to perform well on good teams. I mean goodness I really thought Griffin was washed....now all of a sudden his vertical is back and shooting 3's....

Because the business of basketball is maximizing your assets - you would think a veteran like JJ would know that

JJ was apparently worth a mid to late 2nd round pick and some cash. If he wanted to be free then JJ had to top that offer, which could have easily been done with enough cash

That's what I'm saying. JJ didn't even know he was in negotiations to begin with. Maybe if he knew it was a negotiation he would've offered a buy out? But based on what he's said they were determined to trade him wherever they wanted too.

About last night: Last season’s Mavs lost an NBA-high 13 games in which they led by double digits. Last night’s win improved this season’s record in such games to 23-2.
Mavs went from worst in the league in giving up big leads to one of the better teams.

It wasn't fun to see them run up a 23-pt lead only to almost lose it, but we've only given up two double-digit leads this year. That's a start.

Then JJ's agent did a dumb

There should have been a number agreed upon that would have secured JJ's release instead of a trade. I think the agent just assumed that there was only a small chance that anyone would trade for JJ and that he would be released with most of his money intact

Hopefully our gain

Basically this.

You don't assume in the NBA. You either need a trade kicker or a no-trade clause if you are dead-set on not being traded. Otherwise, you will get traded.

If you are getting paid big bucks and not getting playtime, you negotiate a buyout. If you don't do that, some team will pay money to get you. With a buyout, you lose money but gain control of where you play next.

What happened to WCS? Dude was out for Covid protection, but it's been 14+ days and he's ruled out for tonight again. Looks like it wasn't just contact-tracing, but he's actually sick? No info at all on it.

Yeah, but for no apparent reason whatsoever, I think we should fire Carlisle.

And I’m pretty sure he didn’t contract covid because he posted him getting his vaccine a couple days ago. If he got covid, he would have to wait 90 days before vaccination. Weird he’s not playing.

The Curry trade seems to be a rare win-win. I think we got the better player overall, but he fits a very specific need for them, and they've been dominant all season.

The stats doesnt even show the huge difference at defense. No way we are able to have a top-5 defense with Seth instead if Josh

Mavs aren't a top 5 defense they rank like mid level (15th)

Also, Josh might be better defensively than Seth but I still haven't seen him fix our issues with man to man defense in specific matchups where certain players seem to always cook us.

I need to see him put up a better fight vs guys like Lillard and Paul for example. He just doesn't seem to handle those guys to the extent I thought he would.

But maybe he's just more of a team defender as opposed to a individual stopper.

Also his shooting is still very Inconsistent to the point where
he might give 1 or two solid games and then go a week without shooting over 30% from 3.

No one should ever post about Richardson again

Dude is terrible and I don't care what Seth's numbers look like he's a better player than that clown.

Here are some stats to consider (Rank in NBA):

FG% Season (SSN): 46.9% (#12)
FG% Last 10 games (L10): 46.65% (#14)

3Pt% SSN: 36.1% (#18)
3PT% L10: 36.63% (#12)

Rebounds per game SSN: 43.5 (#21)
Rebounds per game L10: 47.0 (#4)

Opponent Points per game SSN: 109.6 (#8)
Opponent Points per game L10: 101.3 (#2)

Over the last 10 games, the Mavs are 7-3. In the losses:

FG% 41.2%
3Pt% 26.9%
Rebounds 45
Opponent Points 108

What stands out to me are the rebounding stats. The Mavs have become a much better rebounding team. Second, opponent points are also much better over the last 10 games (Mavs giving up fewer points per game) and even when they lose those numbers are competitive vs. the rest of the league. Finally, over the last 10 games 3Pt% is a predictor of a loss. The three losses were in fact their poorest shooting from the 3Pt line during this stretch of games (not really surprising). If the Mavs can rebound and hold opponents to 100-105 points, then you could argue they will be competitive in a playoff series (I realize that the competition will be tougher than those teams played in the last 10 games). They held the Jazz to 103 points and the Blazers to 92 during that stretch and held every team (except the Thunder) to under their season average (Thunder scored their season average). Room for optimism?

A lot of people complain about Richardson & DFS shooting. The funny thing is current starting 5 has better ORTG than last year's starting 5:

20-21: Luka/Rich/DFS/Kleber/KP 125 OFRTG, 110 DEFRTG
19-20: Luka/Curry/THJ/DFS/KP 120 OFRTG, 111DEFRTG

But the problem of last year's 5 was that it was just too small, esp in the playoffs. Curry & THJ couldn't stop anybody.

The current starting 5 strength should be defense. And they are really defending well (after covid). Since Feb 16:

125 OFRTG, 102 DEFRTG

Not sure if it was posted yesterday but NBA rescinded the "And-1" Tech from Knicks game on Luka. Helps not get that one game suspension.

Last five games Mavs allowed 116.6 points per game. The competition during this period averages 111.6 ppg for the season. Nothing more needs to be said. Defense requires effort. Mavs have shown they can play good defense but are just not doing that right now.

Terry Stotts is possibly gone after this season.

Do the MBT bring him back for a year as assistant then potentially let him take over?

Just thinking out loud. I’m also a fan of Moseley. He seems to gel with the players.

I'd take Casey and Silas back in a heartbeat. Maybe even let them take over head coaching after Rick is done, but I'm not super big on Stotts.
