Jesus. First move JKidd and staff have made that I completely disagree with. We couldn't keep Brunson and we gave him a huge opportunity to end up a quality starter. There's even less chance Wood wants to stay here with this approach.

Still excited for Mavs season though.

Wood been working on his defense with Sweeney this summer. That's the most valuable thing I've seen today.

He also directly credited coach with how tough he is on conditioning. Wood stated coach has been busting him ever since he got in town and is in the best shape of his life. I know, I know...but I do see a lot of positives when it comes to Sweeney.

Something or nothing?
Statements by Kidd about holding Luka out for part of the training camp makes me wonder if lingering injuries from Euro games are still nagging him.
After one game he said he got shots at halftime and he also injured his left wrist a little.
I'm sure if it was something - the media would be all over it.

I'm sure he is hurt. Luckily we don't have any meaningful games for a few weeks.

And he looked fine in scrimmages today.

I?m sure he?s a little banged up, but I?d imagine it?s more rest/load management. I know he?s young, but no reason to carry those nagging injuries into the season.

I'm only hearing good things about Hardy so far during camp. Draining threes in practice, scoring on Wood at the rim, all smiles. Looks like the kid might stay in the picture.

Good to see him making the best of the opportunity so far.
A little concerning that he is scoring at the rim on Wood though.

Why? Wood isn't a rim defender. That's why we got McGee.

I think your misunderstanding the logic behind this move

If you roll out a defensive lineup with Wood, Luka and Dinwiddie how many stops do you expect to get?

McGee makes sense to me because they haven't had a rim protector since Tyson Chandler left town and I'm sure Kidd thinks about that all the time since he knows how valuable a rim protector can be in the post season.

Besides everyone on these forums know that Wood will still play 30-32 MPG and his defense won't hurt as much playing vs 2nd unit lineups.

You dont start SD. We don't have a trusty back up ball handler/floor general.

The logic behind you're 2nd best player not maximizing his minutes with the best PG, possibly best player in the game isn't there for me.

Im running Luka, Bullock, DFS, Wood, McGee. That's a mobile lengthy defense with great perimeter shooting. You can also toss it to Wood and let him generate offense. Then off the bench you have SD, THJ, Maxi to continue the offensive threat against other 2nd units.

The fact that Wood is on a contract year and if we played our cards right he might re-up here...but You absolutely lose that when he's a FA because he's asked to be a 6 man especially in a prove it year.

I'm all for Dorsey, Hardy and Green getting the chance to step up, but c'mon...we can't realistically plan around that.

The plan may work well enough, but you're gonna lose any chance at keeping Wood. So we have a 6th man rental and he is our 2nd best player. Does not compute.

I know Wood isn't a good rim defender, but I just don't see McGee giving us a whole lot of minutes. Wood will most likely see a lot of action at center, and we'll need at least some interior defensive presence. Maybe McGee gets more minutes than I'm assuming but considering he hasn't been a starting caliber center most of his career, and he is 34 yo, makes me wonder how much time he'll actually play.

I thought Wood was supposedly improving defensively but if a 6'4" G-League caliber guard is scoring at the rim on him, that can't be a good sign for improving our interior defense.
IDK...I'm just not convinced our frontcourt situation has been fully addressed.

Still think Wood makes Powell completely expendable.
Wouldn't mind making some deal surrounding Powell/Green for Clarkson/Azubuike.

We're really getting ahead of ourselves with the Hardy scoring on Wood a couple of times in practice...Lets not exaggerate a practice.

And we also shouldn't fool ourselves into thinking that Wood is suddenly David Robinson on defense. I find that fans set themselves up for disappointment in such things.

If Wood gives us 20/10, then he doesn't need to do that. If he did that plus defense, then he would be a top 25 player. He isn't a top 25 player, and I don't think we need him to be anyway.

Kleber/McGee for defense and Wood/Powell(lol) for offense.

If you aren't convinced our front court situation is fully addressed, wait until you take a deep dive into our front court ans backup guard situation.

Kinda making my point with the David Robinson thing. McGee is not a heavy minutes center so it will be Wood Powell and Maxi manning the middle most of the time. Maxi is fine with smaller centers but we'll most likely struggle against some teams with bigger centers and those that have guys who can get to the bucket.

They didnt fully address either.
Front court partially, backcourt not at all.
I'd just like to see some legit size insurance at center. That can be had for the min.
We need solid backup at pg which will most like require giving up some assets.

Sad that twitter Mavs fans were dumping on Wood. Dear lord, it's practice people. And Wood is learning a completely new system that isn't dog snot Houston.

That's why I'm not a big fan of making trades during the season. Training camp is very important for new guys.

And if Green plays like this in actual games, then we'll win 50 easily. Can he control himself and put the ball in the basket?

The thing that has always impressed me about Green is that he has incredible handles, incredible dexterity, and incredible passing

He rebounds pretty damn well for his size too

The thing that held him off the court was 1) we had Brunson and SD and 2) he couldn?t score.

Without Brunson, we may need him more. He absolutely needs to find his scoring, though.

Green ripping it up in fan jam. Be funny if all this time he was actually a pg.

Hardy with 18. I mean, one of Hardy, Frank, or Green have to pan out for that third handler. Only need one.

McGee saw 15 a night in Phx a year ago, I expect him to average the same. That leaves nearly 80 minutes at the 4/5 spots for Wood and Kleber to split up. Even though Wood doesn't start.....he will get plenty of court time.

Hardy/Wood pick and roll.

Hardy's shot is pure and he has a nice chemistry with Wood. Wonder if he can be in that second lineup with Wood for some spark.

Wood can hit threes, roll for dunks, and drive for layups. He's the complete offensive package. His defense and rebounding is a work in progress. Luka was stealing rebounds and everyone was abusing him down low.

Green was a nice surprise. Fast, good handles, great dunks. Didn't show passing, but he can pass.

McGee is a darn fine pickup.

THJ can get hot and he's going to get us 5-10 wins in the regular season as a flamethrower.

DFS is just always good. He defends and he's consistent with threes. So glad he's here.

Kleber looks healthy and hitting threes. That's what we need from him.

Luka is Luka. Love that he called for OT. He knows it's an entertainment sport and he's a competitor.

Bullock is like DFS. Consistent defense and threes.

Frank was okay and hit shots/defended

Bertans can shoot and occasionally drive. He's our Walt Williams/broke-down Peja.

SD was okay

Dorsey was underwhelming

No one else was of note.

Panda hank with scrimmage condensed version

Our length will be MUCH better with Mcgee and Wood in addition to Kleber and powell.
Watching THJ on fire is something... hopefully we get the good version of THJ night in, night out. don't know if we'll put it all together but we've got the chance to be better and more consistent.

I'd just like to see some legit size insurance at center. That can be had for the min.
We need solid backup at pg which will most like require giving up some assets.
They did address the front court, and did really well too.

Wood is as good as big men get on offense. He's just never going to be the defender that people want.

Javale is as good as big men get on defense. He's just never going to be the offensive player people want.

See what the Mavs did there?

In fact, the entire roster is basically 50/50 just like that. We don't really have many two-way players.

Really good two-way players are usually All-Stars. Its hard to get those unless you draft them

This has been the Mavs since the championship team fall out. The roster doesn't have 2 way players.

I'm fine with the front court additions. I'm uncomfortable with the lack of a proven guard. However, Green and Hardy looked good so that's a wait and see.
