Can the Mavs Make It With Only 3 Big Men?
Even though Eschmeyer was dead weight; the Mavs look extremely light at the 5.
Where's the beef? |

The Mavs will take their chances with Bradley and Raef. They should be fine now that we have Dirk and Jamison to surround them. Both will hold their own defensively while rebounding the ball.
Plus, Nelson will use both Fortson and Najera at center. And that's not even counting Dirk can handle minutes there as well.

In this league you really only need 1 or 2 true centers considering over half the league is using a PF to plug that hole anyway.

Don Nelson has already said that he will sometimes play Big Dan Fortson at the center position, and you had better believe that we will occasionally see smaller lineups featuring Jamison at power forward, and Dirk at center. Thus, we will probably have five players that will see significant minutes at the 4 and 5 spot: Dirk, Antawn, Raef, Bradley, and Fortson...
Assuming that Fortson is able to contribute, and Raef can perform a little more robustly, I think our Mavs are going to have a pretty darned good big man rotation next season...

That's what I was going to say.. The Mavs have atleast brought the bodies in, NOW they just have to perform and sure up that interior defense. I think they have enough bodies to do that now.

You have to add Fortson in the mix. My question is, what if Fortson and Raef got hurt or even if Shawn and Forston got hurt. We would be down to 2 big guys, and only one center.

mavsfanatik, EVERY team in the league would have a problem if 2 of their big men went down. it wouldn't just be a problem for us.

What if JUST Lafrentz or JUST Bradley is injured? At this point, it would be pretty disasterous (nice word!?!) considering both players inability to stay on the floor for significant minutes without getting into foul trouble.
