Default Players you dont want drafted by the Mavs

I can't say I know a lot about the potential picks since I don't watch much college basketball. But who are your guys that you hope the Mavs pass on? Guys you think will be extreme busts/or too "safe" picks/etc.....

Looking at some of them I really hope the Mavs stay away from either
a) unathletic plodder (ie the Nick Fazekas's of the world... I'm sure there are a few that will be in the upper draft)
b) undersized tweener guard. (Mavs really don't need another SG in a PGs body. Draft one or the other.)

Dont draft by position, just take the BPA. Higher chances to get a quality player.

Good chances he ends up as trade bait anyway.

We'll be fine just as long as Jerry Jones isn't picking...

To be clear, I DON'T want the Mavs to draft him. He might develop into a fine pro. I'd much rather have a guy that's not such a project offensively and not such a liability defensively to stick next to Dirk for the next couple years. If we go big, I'd be much happier getting a guy like Withey.

Olynyk, Plumlee, Withey. That's about it. Whoever else we get should be factors right away. Dieng and Larkin should be good gets, and we could possibly trade down to acquire them, though Dieng has risen from no. 24 to 13 on Ford's big board.

I'd be OK with Plumlee since he is big enough to play center. 6'11.5 with shoes is big and he has room to keep getting stronger. Excellent rebounder which the Mavs desperately need. Plus, he played on a really good team in a good conference. Problem is that he has no mid range game or jump shot. I'd still pick Dieng if I had the choice.

Shorter and black

I'd be fine with Zeller, but he won't fall to 13. And, no, priorities are to take the most talented player. Plumlee may be borderline, but there are better options. Just say no to Olynyk or Withey. Fools gold players who thrived in college and won't be any better than rotational and that's only due to height.

Edit: Also, Alex Len would be a great pick, but, again, doubt he falls.

I think it's a nuanced topic that's fine as a new thread. Things get lost pretty easily in the bloated 568 replies "Official offseason 2013-2014 thread"

I'm not an advocate for making new threads for everything, but new threads sometimes help contain different discussions. One big "offseason thread" that has every discussion for the whole offseason would make it pretty hard for any particular discussion to gain traction.

The big difference between Plumlee and Kaman is athleticism.

That and a midrange jumper, and probably post footwork and a left hand as well, though I haven't seen enough of Plumlee to know for sure. I honestly didn't get that comparison at all. Their games don't seem at all similar to me.

I've seen both Plumlee brothers. They aren't intriguing to me. Although Ryan Kelly out of Duke could perhaps be a sleeper pick this year. Now he's got potential with athleticism.

Yeah, I'm not sure Plumlee works next to Dirk...mainly because help side defense isn't his forte. However, having 7 footers with good athleticism is a rare thing. Even if he was a poor man's Kaman for argument's sake, then you could do a lot worse at 13. He does fill a need being a center and with his rebounding. I think he makes more sense than Olynyk but less sense than Dieng.

I think they have a shot at the bottom of the lottery. NBADraft.net has him going around 20 (http://nbadraft.net/2013mock_draft) and DraftExpress has him at 15 (http://www.draftexpress.com/).

RT @TyLawson3 Good game between Dallas and Portland. Good thing we didn't end up getting Dallas. Coach Karl lost his mind.

I love Dieng. Great motor. Great personality. He's a rare kind of player that plays within himself with such a motor that he motivates everyone around him to work harder. He'd fill a nice role here.

He has an uncanny knack of always knowing where the ball is. Those are little things that make a player truly valuable.
